I enjoy these walks, because it’s more realistic than some of the other videos where the gardeners have all the space and funds in the world. Your tours show me what stage the plants are in, so I don’t panic when mine haven’t emerged yet, and others that will work in my zone. My hydrangea’s aren’t emerging yet, either, but I have hope. But my Haas Halo is knee high! Congratulations on working with Northwind. What an honor!

Erin I love this garden tour, I’ve gardened for 40 plus years and I am not able to walk my property (4 acres) any more. Thank you for your time and dedication, so special to hear the excitement in your voice. I live in northwest Ohio, cold today, peonies will probably bloom in 2 weeks, God bless you all.

It’s nice to see other gardens slowly waking up and all the cleanup that still needs to happen. My garden is larger than it’s ever been, and with new additions comes spring weeding. My older beds barely need any attention besides cutback and leaf removal. 😊😊😊

Hi Erin. Here's an idea. Prune the viburnums. Pot up the cuttings for rooting. When the new plants get big enough, plant them where you'd really like them. Then you won't feel so bad about taking out the parent plants.

It’s been Crazy cold here in Z5a, WI just north of you. The wind a couple days ago was Nuts. I tried wrapping the fruit trees one night and said forget it. I think I knocked more buds off than saved. Hope no one lost fruit with all this cold as we had 23*F one morning and 25/28 this morning. They say steady warm temps for next 10 days. I’m complaining about the weather and no need to apologize! It was warmer all winter 😏. Here I was all excited about surprises that overwintered like artichokes! 😃. Things I wrote off that I started from seed like salvia, Veronica, mums, carnations 😃 and baby’s breath were all growing!👏🏼👏🏼. If it weren’t for tags under all those oak leaves I wouldn’t have known. Then there are the either Canterbury bells or foxgloves as I see a tag for each and they look alike 🤷‍♀️. Then the rabbit ate the mum because it was outside a fenced area. So up goes a fence again as it will still grow. And this freezing weather-I’m wore out from covering things that were covered and overwintered. I don’t know how you have anything with water nearby as we are on a water run and our yard is there snack bar, especially when the lilies bloom. And The Rabbits 🐇😡-too many! I am also enjoying all the spring bulbs including the fritillary! The yellow one is weak though and not sure what’s happening. And some of the asiatic lilies are looking like they will be huge this year. Right now I’m trying to figure out an invisible fence for front landscaping so it doesn’t look like a zoo. I’m thinking a lower fence than our normal 7’ will do because it will be too busy inside for a deer to jump in-maybe surround it with trellis framework and black wire fencing inside. Can’t even disguise it with roses as they would eat them. It’s always a struggle as everything is dry here except what I grow and without fence I would have nothing. It’s too depressing after long winters to see plants destroyed and time is short to enjoy them. Your gardens look great! I would be as nervous as a cat without fencing 😅.

We’ve had a flagstone patio with sand and some ground covers and weeds! in between and for years I have weeded its crevices year after year. In the interest of low maintenance, this year I dug out all the sand in between (labor intensive) and the installer replaced the sand with a product called Easy Joint, which stabilizes the stone, doesn’t allow weeds and is permeable. It comes in various colors to match the stonework. I had him leave a few small pockets for planting. What a game changer! I can send a photo if you’d like.

Love strolling around your garden with you! I said last week and I’ll say again, that seeing the stage of your spring garden in its wholeness (not just the “pretty parts”) is so validating! Then you also are honest about what you have wanted to do, what you haven’t wanted to do and what you will watch for a season before deciding for sure what you’ll do…Thank You! Love your mumble mouth and subtle humor. Looking forward to more 😊Oh, and congratulations on the cottage garden spot! Can’t wait to see that. Hmm, maybe a trip to Wisconsin in June is in order…

My central California garden has exploded with bloom. It smells and looks gorgeous. So, when everything (including me) is languishing in the awful summer heat, I will remember how very slow your Wisconsin garden was to wake up in the spring and be more philosophical about spending hours mulching and watering my own heat-stressed gardens! ALSO I have just finished a solid month of serious weeding (my gardens are spread over a few acres and are only a few years old so I an fighting a spirited battle against bindweed, thistle, wild radish, and gallium). There are a shocking number of gophers and ground squirrels (but they don't do too much damage, a little to my surprise). And the worst thing the wild turkeys do are sit on (and squash) clumps of flowering yarrow. 'Tho I live outside of town, I don't have to deal with deer as you do. And I need to remember how well my nutrient-dense clay soil is when it turns to adobe in the heat of summer. And remember the welcome summer shade from the grove of elm trees when I have to spend many, many hours pulling up the thousands of seedling they deposit. Every garden has its challenges and its gifts. You just need to be patient with the former and grateful for the latter!

Long time watcher 2nd time commenter. As an avid garden tour guest in the Kansa City area, one of the best tips I’ve learned is path edging needs to be anchored horizontally to prevent winter heaving. However, you and I both know that dug borders are the best. I’ve watched you do this. Best of luck.

Hi Erin, this video reminded me that you planted some Begonia Grandis that you took home after visiting the Philadelphia area. I live in an area not far from Philly, where we recently became zone 7a after having been 6b. I've grown these begonias for years. You should know that they are very late to emerge. Depending on the site, they sometimes don't emerge until mid- to late-June in my area. I don't know how long they'll take for you, but don't give up on them. Best of luck.
