I feel like the uptight or "my money can buy anything" vibe is because only people with money travel outside of country. And here, that's exactly how those people are. Ignorant, but it doesn't matter, they have money, they don't need anything else out here. We hate it here, too. But there's really no use trying to change it because those types of people are really dense. I for one, have always been poor, I'm bilingual, learning a third language, I like learning about other cultures, and I try to be polite. But people with money here don't usually do that, though.

The one time I left America for Germany (and eventually a few other places in Europe), one of the things that shocked me most was the restaurant culture. Waiters in America, for example, come up to your table frequently to ask how you are doing or if you need anything else. Waiters in Europe don't because this is apparently rude or disruptive behavior over there. I was, however, filled with anxiety when I had to try to flag down a waiter because it made me feel like I was interrupting them which is very rude. Waiters in America will come to see you as soon as they are not busy. Another thing is the water. Water in America, or at least hot places like here in Florida, is free. It is actually illegal in Florida to not give a person water when asked for them or for their pet as it could lead to heatstroke or other ailments. So it surprised me that not only was the water not free, but you also had to ask for water without gas (aka non sparkling water). Lastly, the amount of time people spent dining weirded me out. In America, people (not always but) usually eat quickly at the restaurant and if they can't finish their meal they will get the rest to go and just leave. The meal is a social experience but hanging out can be continued somewhere else afterwards as taking up a seat in a restaurant means that the restaurant can't give that seat to another person and take their money. Staying for too long means that you are taking up the business's time and space that could otherwise be spent servicing someone else unless you are planning to order more food and therefore pay more. So, unless the restaurant was at least half empty, I never understood why Europeans would take so long in dining. It felt rude to the restaurant owner to stay for longer than necessary but that is their culture so I'll chalk it up to one of those things I'll just never understand.

I was vacationing in south Korea with my wife. We went for a walk in downtown Akpo. I should mention that Neither my wife nor I are Korean and Akpo isn't a large tourist destination. We where there visiting her father and mother who both worked in the country in high paying professional jobs. so we kinda stuck out amongst all the Koreans. While we where walking a young salary-man on a bike rode by us and stared so much at us that he ran right into an elderly man on a scooter. He flipped over his bike and the old man's scooter nearly careened right into busy traffic. We found out later that Korea doesn't have the same taboo against staring at people that other countries in the west do. If they can be so easily distracted by a couple of foreigners taking a walk to the shops then maybe they should start appropriating a culture of not staring at people. xD

Used to be a tour guide in Scotland, have had about 100+ Americans on them. Quite a lot of this is true in my expiernece, however with some variations: - Whilst at first seeming over and fake, most genuinely were friendly and were very nice. - Many were the first to get involved in the "fun" aspects, keen to volunteer be used as props for storytelling. I always appreciated that, even if it was *too* keen sometimes. - They TIP WELL, and always showed gratitude - They were noticeably "louder" than others, even in a conversation. This was a constant, I even had to make up a regular joke when passing a graveyard for americans to not wake up the dead. - They liked to talk about the USA a lot, sometimes too much. - They were keen to ask questions about the city, especially coming up after the tour. - Interestingly, almost all of them were very much believers in the supernatural... - The younger folk were often, well, very much more "forward" and "flirty" than most. I witnessed quite a few times some younger American tourists head off with people they met on the tour. Overall: I preferred them over many other tourists for sure! Just, indoor voices needs to be worked on 😂 Oh and clothing/fashion? Yea, this video hit that right on the nail! 😂

This has nothing to do with Americans but one time when I was going to a lake to go boating with my grandparents in Italy and group of asian tourists stood in our boat at the dock and took like a thousand pictures while my grandfather yelled at them to get out. He later told me that he doesn't believe that entire countries are reflected by their tourist but the tourists are individuals who only represent themselves. Even though I am an American citizen I think of myself as Italian due to the amount of time I spend in Italy, I still try to be respectful and follow the rules because not everybody is as accepting to other cultures as I am.

It is not "culture appropriation" it is trying to do what the locals do so American's do not offend people. I am an American who lived in a foreign country for 4 years. And a lot of the people I met, wanted me to wear their traditional clothing for festivals and local holidays when everyone else was wearing traditional clothing. They were trying to get me to experience their culture. No one thought I was "culture appropriationing" They were welcoming to me. I understand this is stereotypes, but a lot of these are not true. But I do know Europeans have the more negative views on Americans vs Asia or other other continents.

Also if you're traveling internationally from the US, the best place to start is Australia. Yes, their accent can be difficult to decipher from an American POV but they are the most culturally similar imo. More than the UK or CAD. Plus the AUS dollar is weaker than the US dollar meaning you are spending less than the sticker price (though everything is ore expensive in return.)
