Seriously? The parents of that kid asked the police over 100 times to investigate Gacy, and they refused? At what point does incompetent become complicit?

Look at Jeffrey Dahmer. Twice people said something or there was a police run in. One of those times the drugged victim tried to say something to the police and was given back to dalhmer.

I just realized that there were lots of notorious serial killers in the 70’s. Gacy should’ve been caught a lot sooner and the police should’ve taken him more seriously. Rest In Peace everyone who died because of that monster.

When my grandfather was a kid he lived in the same neighborhood has John Gacy. He said he was walking around the neighborhood one time and came up on John in his backyard. He motioned my grandfather over to talk. He looked in the backyard and noticed a bunch on construction equipment from his job. My grandfather was a gearhead he was tempted to go ever so he could get a better engine for his motor bike, but he said he got a gut feeling that said not to go over and he left.

There is a “look” (so to speak) that certain investigators can see nowadays. It’s called criminal profiling. At the time this happened, the FBI had just started their studies into the subject, and forensic policing was still in its infancy. No one had any idea what to look for or what to investigate when trying to find serial killers, especially considering the term itself hadn’t even been coined. It’s easy now to say “they should have done X, Y, and Z,” but consider the time period, and the fact that the people charged with investigating Bundy had never seen anything like him. They didn’t have 30 years worth of case evidence and expert help from federal law enforcement to back them up and help them. The guy didn’t have a lengthy criminal record or a history of violence, had a reasonably nice house and means of income, so why would they go after him when they could be investigating someone who looked way more guilty? I’m not saying they were right to ignore him, but they were against a deadline to solve those cases, and when you’ve got other suspects who seem much more suspicious than him, you have to prioritize your time looking into them.

I have a LOT of respect and empathy for detectives, I can’t imagine having to go into a crawl space to find and identify bodies at various levels of decomposition, especially bodies of children/minors. They can’t even look away, their job is to study it and document it in as greater detail as possible. I’m sure they see things on the job far more confronting than anything any of us could think up on our own.

You have to understand that they only have so many cops and their are millions of criminals so they aren’t going to investigate unless they have very solid evidence and so if people go randomly missing it could be anyone who is doing it. What they didn't know was that my background had me aware of this side of their personalities and as soon as they knew the game was finished they turned into the coldest of cold and stopped "participating" in their therapy. @@Pacisback84 Except that isn't true. Jack the Ripper and other serial killers definitely existed far before this clown, except until after the 1970's when all crime peaked world wide, the USA police only operated on municipal and state levels, so if the killer moved and did crime in another state, the state already previously investigating wouldn't have a clue and treat this as a new crime and not have access to the other state's information. Wasn't until after all the serial killings that they changed how the system works and thankfully it is much more efficent now...

I can see why my friend would have been noticed. After the story broke, my friend and I were in highschool. We graduated in 1982. I could tell it affected my friend, even though he didn't say that. Fun fact: my fathers friend worked as someone who towed trucks during the 70’s. (We live in IL) let’s call the friend Peter. Well, one day, Peter got a call to tow a car that had apparently driven down in a ditch near a river off a highway or road and had gotten stuck. Peter went down and towed the truck, thinking nothing of it. Just a careless driver. He noticed the driver was a little odd, with a safety tag or something on the car. Peter didn’t mind, and did his job. A month later Peter got a call into court, to testify. Peter arrived and the judge was with the man who’s car he towed. The judge asked Peter if this was the man who’s car he had towed and to describe what happened and what the car looked liked. Peter identified the man and car as the one he towed and saw. He shrugged it off as a small crime the man must have done. A few weeks later, all over the news was that John Wayne Gacy had been sentenced to prison and the crimes he has done. Peter looks at the photo of John, and is surprised to realize that John Wayne Gacy was the man who’s car he towed. Apparently Gacy had dropped his last victims body off in the river right before he came and got towed. Pretty crazy!!

He got out and other than being shaken up from the encounter didn’t think much of it until years later when he saw a picture of the man on the news. Under the picture was the name John Wayne Gacy.

The ways I was always told, Gacy had killed several people killed at this point and was confident. He stored these bodies under his house. He got so cocky he invited a couple of policemen over to dinner one night. An officer asked to use the bathroom and when he got in there, he smelled something funny coming from the vent. They caught Gacy and his defense was, “Everyone at work was out to get me! I had to defend myself!”

I don't understand how the venting works for the sewer lines. I know the sewer part of a home plumbing has to be vented to prevent explosion of sewer gasses but how did the crawl space air get drawn up into the bathroom?
@justinguillemette796
@justinguillemette796 3 жыл бұрын
@@dannydaw59 the air could have just seeped through spaces within the walls and floors that weren’t completely sealed. Also, venting in plumbing isn’t so sewer gases don’t explode, it’s to provide atmospheric pressure to the used water so it flows properly. For example: if you open a soda bottle and turn it upside down, the soda kinda glugs out instead of a nice flow. If you poke a hole in the soda bottle when it’s open and let the soda flow out, it will flow out gently

@@dannydaw59 The video is slightly misleading. It wasn't flushing the toilet that caused the smell to leak out. It was the ventilation system. The heat kicked on, I think. Or maybe the AC. So as I have studied serial killers, watched movies, documentaries, read articles and books on them I couldn't get enough of my research. So as a local chicagoan, I've visited the home of Gaysee (if someone wants to come for me on my spelling mark it wrong on my spelling test!). I sat there staring at the new house built on the property envisioning what was once were. Then an old guy came out of his house and walked to my car. He must've known why I was there. He just started talking to me about Gacy! He knew him because he lived in his home since the 70s. He offered me to come in his house and talk more. I declined but he continued to stand there speaking to me. There's nothing like having the knowledge of events that took place from someone who was actually there to see it for themselves. I fed my hunger to know more. I learned from him more about Gacy in that 10 minute conversation than I have from anything prior that I've learned.

Gacy’s lawyer said that, during the trial, Rob’s dad came up to him and said something along the lines of “I just want you to know that I don’t hate you, I know you’re just doing your job” and that made him realize what a wonderful young man Rob would’ve become. And that was just one victim. We reduce the victims of serial killers to numbers so frequently, but that put into perspective the human devastation with each victim. It messed me up for a while. They were just kids, man. I pray the remaining unidentified victims get their names back soon. Five families are looking for their babies.

Years ago one of my local tv stations had a thing where every I think Saturday they would play a movie based on a real life (usually a crime) incident and then after the movie would show a little special they'd made regarding the true story the movie was based on(one of my favs was an interview with Jeffrey Dahmer's prom date). So when they showed the movie where Brian Dennehy played John Wayne Gacy, afterward they showed a kind of lecture by the high something or other of the official organization of clowns. Since he was being serious he was wearing a suite and tie, NOT clown stuff. In any case this guy who ironically is being dead serious, explains that not only was JWG an evil serial killer of children, ...he was a BAD clown. The highlite was that he explained that are different kinds of clowns and they have guidelines about how they are supposed to dress and about makeup etc. For children's entertainer clowns their makeup is supposed to be all rounded. It makes them look jolly. He showed a picture of JWG as clown. There are some picts in the video. Look at them. The paint around his mouth comes to points. The fake eyebrows above his real eyebrows are triangles. He pointed out that look is demonic not child friendly. I got the feeling that had JWG come to attention of this guy, even if he HADN'T killed anybody, this guy would have drummed him out of clownbiz.

There's an interesting story about a guy who was suspected to be a victim of Gacy. Turns he just moved really far away and didn't even know people thought he'd been murdered by Gacy.

one time gacy masqueraded as police officer in unmarked car with fake id. told the young person he violated curfew. he handcuffed the person, brought him back then murdered them. how do you detect fake police without ending up in a resisting arrest charge if it was real police. given his past history of violence, it makes sense he was connected to some powerful ring how else could he be protected

I remember my dad telling me a story of how he went to one of John's house parties as a teenager in the mid 70s in/by Chicago. Wouldn't let my dad go down stairs to the basement to smoke he told me. Remembers hearing foot steps following him at night on his way home and ended up sprinting home. 😬

I did a concrete job within a half mile of where Gacy lived as I was a preteen when Gacy's killing spree went down. There were 33 young men and boys that were dug out of the crawl space of the home and there were songs that talked about that We don't need no John Wayne Gacy knowing that he killed that many young men and boys. You may want to watch his last interview on how chilling Gacy was as well as the killing spree happened not far from O'Hare

Well to be fair it’s entirely possible he was bisexual since he himself said he was, but that his murderous urges were targeted at boys partly because of the trauma and self hatred around that part of his attraction in his childhood. He’s still obviously an evil monster but seemingly every bisexual that exists is painted like they’re actually just secretly gay or straight. Like nah, bi people do exist and it still fits with the story. Just something worth thinking about.

Possibly, but it took some doing to get him in the end as it was. It's possible that, if he hadn't stored so many bodies down in the crawlspace, he would have gotten away with it. It was the smell that did him in.

One of my most favorite albums of all time is "Acid Bath: When the kite string pops”. Now what made the album so controversial was the album cover itself, which included art work from John Wayne Gacy himself. It was a painting of him dressed as Pogo the clown. If you can find it, I would recommend giving finger paintings of the insane a listen. The lyrics are sick and twisted though.

His dad's homophobia and neglect left him as a powerless child with a profound trauma. The homophobia from his role model rubbed off on him... The powerless aspect of it all physically literally manifested in him as the adult, putting handcuffs on a young man, to make THEM feel powerless, just like he did... Trauma doing what it usually does by nature, repeat itself. A tragic story in every aspect.
