I had a 991T and replaced it by a 991 GT3 Touring. Why ? Because the T gave me so much fun, not only in driving it but also in terms of Porsche community, that I thought it would be worth the investment to step up to a GT3T. I am very happy with the Touring and would not want to go back to a T, but if I needed to for whatever reason I would still be very happy with the T. Two notes : I daily drive the GT3 also in the city, not a problem of being to hard suspension, not at all. I learned that the manual gives more pleasure (my T was automatic). My plan is to keep the GT3 Touring forever and put 400.000 km on it in the next 20 year

992 GTS lightweight package owner here. I haven’t driven the 992 T or GT3 so I do not know what I am missing but, what I love about my GTS is it really likes to be driven hard. It just never seems phased by anything I ask it do. I’ve spent time in 992 GTS on the track and the street and I find it extremely enjoyable in both situations. I enjoy a car that isn’t so glued down that I can’t get it a little loose at less than race car speeds. I’ve had cars that had such a high grip threshold that they weren’t really fun to drive on the street. I imagine I’d really enjoy the T for day to day. The GT3 on the track. I feel like the GTS is my Goldilocks car.

@@radans99 you do notice the increased road noise. It's not a big deal for me, especially when it allows you to hear the engine more. But could it be an issue on a long road trip? Maybe. I have still yet to test that out. But overall it's not a deal breaker or major issue for me. What is a major issue for me is the back up camera, it absolutely sucks. So make sure you spend the extra money on the birds eye view 360 cam. Also the stock sound system is a joke. I don't listen to music but if you do, you have to upgrade to the bose. The stock is unbearable. Other than these two issues, the car is amazing.

Bizarre how this isn’t being discussed/addressed. The GTS is considered the “sweet spot” 911 for a reason. Essentially it’s the best of both worlds, and the upgrades and standard options in a GTS are a relative bargain compared to the “T,” some of which you can’t just upgrade with a $2K tune. Analytically, emotionally, performance-wise, and value-wise, the GTS is unquestionably the best possible 911 daily driver. I own a 991.2 and aside from the ‘it would be nice to hear that 4.0 NA’ or the 3.6 NA Powerkit of the 991.1 gen GTS, it’s pretty tough to argue that the 17’-19’ 911 GTS isn’t the most perfect “all-around” 911 to-date.

@@ss-mw9dj Well, fair question although I don't think it's really a matter of "better" but rather, what flavor suits your use case and desires. For me I have had G50 Carreras for decades and love the visceral experience yet is a very drivable car on the street - it's just fun. I wanted that in a modern Porsche and honestly the T is that and more. The thinner glass, reduced noise insulation, and lighter weight delivers that. Despite it having the "small engine" it's still faster than anyone can truly use on the street. (I live at the base of HWY1 in California). The T also has PASM with fully adjustable suspension and sits 10mm lower than the GTS. To my knowledge, sprung the same as the GTS. And yes... it's cheaper - to buy, to maintain (think brakes, etc), to register, etc. Again... ultimately it's a personal choice 👍

Fascinating ! If I could (in my dreams), I’d choose the three. The Carrera T because it’s the purest and probably the closest to the spirit of its ancestors ; the GTS which I drive regularly (in 4WD configuration), appreciate and enjoy very much ; the GT3 Touring for its elegant yet powerful looks and of course the fabulous 4.0 aspirated flat-6, while aware that the car is not a practical daily driver on poor roads. But now that the 911 S/T has been unveiled, I think that despite the inconveniences (and the price), this one would be my ultimate choice (in my dreams 😄).

Amazing video! It's so refreshing to watch a very well made car review in the old-school style again that I'm missing more and more as KZbin videos keep changing and moving away from the traditional format. I kind of agree with this verdict, I think the Carrera T offers the "affordable thrills" (affordable by supercar standards) that the old, bare-bones RWD Carreras used to provide, which the GT3 Touring does not because it's got so expensive and hard to acquire for one thing, and it appears too aggressive for road use. However, I don't like that it's widebody now since Porsche just canned the narrow body 911s. I really think the T would've been even better if they had kept it a narrow body.

Well said. Yes, the GT3 is a halo car as far as being a bullet-proof track weapon, and the Touring edition is great for those who don't want to advertise, but then it's not really a good touring car anyway.. I suppose the rarity is also what appeals to wealthy consumers, just as the new S/T is the stealth GT3 RS.. But as an actual car that most of us would enjoy driving? I might go for the GTS if I were looking for a turbo model, but I also like the Carrera S which has more than enough power and has the luxury/daily driver thing nailed. I just got a 718 Spyder, which, so far (it's not yet broken in) is just about perfect IMO. I wouldn't want a stiffer-riding car for just enjoying on the road, I found the GT3 too harsh on anything but great road surfaces. Those are nuances that aren't talked about much on youtube videos, where massive hp and ridiculous 1/4 mile times/drag races dominate.

@@SenszRyes didn’t Nick Murray dyno test a base Carrera and it actually produced around 425PS? It would appear Porsches marketing men decided 385PS was a low enough figure to quote to encourage most buyers to spend more and upgrade to S or GTS models…
Always the base engine in manual with all the GTS bits. In other words, the T. True for the Cayman too.

143, 122 and 103k are academic. I’ve a T on order and it’s a bit of a struggle to keep a spec I want below 120k. Waahwaah… first World problem, but just making the point that there’s no such thing as a list price Porsche. Nice to see Frankel, interesting views on the 3 cars and whilst I’d absolutely love a Touring, I suspect that as a car, I’ll enjoy the T more often than I would an appreciating asset. I’m not that into a GTS tbh. Too much of everything for me.

I have driven my 992 T for 600 miles and the RAS is unbelievable. I have many older 911’s so I was a bit nervous ordering a 992. I was in the wait list for GTS and just couldn’t get an allocation. It is hard to spec a GTS under $180K. My T before the price increase came in at $150k but i wanted leather, sport seats, RAS, spider wheels, etc. Knowing what I know now I was blessed to get the T because it is the perfect car for me. It makes great sounds, ride is comfortable, handles on rails and is nimble and light. You cannot spec an s with lightweight glass, less insulation, lightweight battery, no back seats so the S is faster but doesn’t have the character of the T. Luke another KZbinr car reviewer said to sell your S and buy a T. I didn’t want huge power for the street. I have a race car 911 and want a car that i can wind out on the street. These T’s are dynoing around 420 HP and all Porsches are underrated from the factory. I am so glad that so many reviewers are realizing that we need a car we can actually drive for the street and not the track. This reminds me of my 993 but in a more modern form.

It would have been very interesting to throw in a Porsche 911 Carrera S (w/ a manual) in the mix

The lower 911 wins again, this has been concluded a few times over 15 years. Less power makes it easier to appreciate the rest of the car’s virtues…

Great review. Quick question for owners and non-owners of the T… would you opt for rear axle steering on the 992 T?

My 991.2 T has RAS. Turned out to be one of the highlights of the car. Adds to the light and nimble feeling of the car, particularly at low speeds. Having lived with RAS, I would hesitate to buy a 911 without it.

Owner. Opt, 100%.

All you owners… do you have the 991.2 or the 992? Because the 991.2 really needed RAS, as opposed to the 992 which has a much more improved handling than the 991.2. So I‘m really more curious to hear about the 992 T owners‘ experience / spec choice

Not having driven one, I wonder about the tire noise level in the T? 911's are loud enough without lightweight glass.

Honest@@brianhimmelman420! Having the GT3T in metroWest Boston would only serve to drive me crazy bc I'd never get it near it's potential. Maybe 9k in....1st. Maybe. Had a Ducati 999 and felt the same way. -- Instead, for the same price as a GT3T, I got the T , which I can push, and a Raptor. 100% feel like that combo is better (for me) than a GT3T.

Was a very good clear video comparing all the cars. They are all RWD. I would go for the 992 or upcoming 992.1 911 Turbo S £180.6K UK MSRP. Or one of the Panemara Turbo S (Coupé or Gran Turismo) with the Lamborghini Urus/ Bentley Bentayga; Audi RSQ8 VAG 4L V8 bi-turbo engine. Or the two body styles: Coupé or Gran Turismo with the Panemara Turbo S E-hybrid at 700 PS the most powerful model Porsche make. It’s the Bentley Flying Spur for less money: Top Turbo S e-hybrid £149K.

Great video guys. I’ve owned a gt3 touring and GTS in 992 guise and a touring in 991.2 guise. GTS was too fidgety on bumpy b roads. I actually think the 18 way seats make a big difference in the touring…. I would urge you to try one with the 18 ways on ps4s tyres. Big difference I would say…. That said I think the T is a great bit of kit. Really great video. Thank you.

Great to hear. Planning a GT3 touring in the coming months (From my GTS) and actually leaning towards the 991.2 (Minimal price difference between the 991 and 992 in CH) because it's just much prettier. Also planning on the 18 ways because it will be a daily and I actually want to be able to access the rear.

@@hpman911 I'm not in the UK (Switzerland). I've been offered a slot, but it's CHF215k before options! (£195k!) On the used market the 991 is CHF180k-200k and the 992 is CHF220k-250k. I'm at 991 money, but could stretch (at a stretch!) to 992, but having seen the 992 on the road, my heart belongs to the 991. I may even keep my GTS, in addition, as my daily 'beater', as it's such a reliable workhorse and still loads of fun!

Good review but when you talk about price you have to talk about depreciation. The best yet touring is the 991.2 GT3 touring not the 992 as the 991.2 GT3 touring is much more supple (in fact spring rates are about 50% less). My own reality check and what I have done since the 997 series is go for the RS for hardcore sports car and GTS for daily. In fact, probably the best all rounder is the 718 (982) 4L NA Cayman GTS - its really great at everything and still has a high revving NA engine. Never really warmed to the T and they tend to get flicked on fairly quickly (I have driven both 991 and 992 variants and would say good but not memorable).

I have a 991.2 manual gt3. The ride and suspension is outstanding even on rough roads. Haven’t driven the 992 gt3 for comparison- but from what I have heard including a performance driver instructor who has owned both the 991.2 is more street compliant- he also said his lap times (and this guy is good) are about the same in both cars - seems to me the 991.2 gt3 is the best of both worlds..?

For an everyday sports car I would vote for an standard Carrera S with manual gearbox and PSAM. Very similar in performance to a GTS (and much better value) and feels almost as engaging and playful as the T. The amazing GT3 Touring plays in a complete different league in every aspect. The naturally aspirated high revving engine roars a hallelujah to the motor gods and its suspension is craving for race tracks or at least near perfect roads. But where to rev it out and test its capabilities on public roads?
@diegodivers Жыл бұрын
You can. There is a manual option for the S but I am afraid they only made it available in some countries for whatever reasons. Btw I now orderd a T. I think It will be fast (and expensive) enough.
