there's a lot of people with disorders that induce paranoia. and there's a lot of people whose children have tragic accidents/disabilities. it is inevitable that those two scenarios would intersect and i think that's what we're seeing. since there's no giant push for fundraising and it seems more like an "awareness" campaign i cant condemn the dad, its just really really sad

I agree, and from the translations I've found online of the videos, what they're saying is not what the father is taking from them. I feel this is more a case of mental illness than deliberately lying.

agreed. an ongoing traumatic experience like the rapid deterioration of a loved one definitely has potential to trigger an episode that could look a lot like this, especially if said condition is unbeknownst to the person themselves or they aren't receiving treatment for whatever reason reminds me of my manic episodes where i'm convinced the doctors are all in on it, there are always cameras rolling, claiming i have irrefutable evidence to support it all, etc. it is really sad all around. i appreciate the empathy you expressed in this comment so much. thank you for sharing your perspective in such a gentle manner

I also feel the shifting stories of what happened to be more the type of delusions shifting than of the little inconsistencies typical of someone trying to keep an elaborate lie straight. When someone is suffering from a mental illness that involves psychosis or delusion with anosognosia (lack of insight) their minds protect the delusion by shifting as necessary, and they are generally unaware of the internal inconsistencies, unable to see them even if confronted (which will only cause them frustration and agitation). His writing style and way of speaking are typical of mental illness symptoms as well. The lack of emotional expression on his speech that was commented on is a symptom called blunted affect. Having watched the videos and read some of what he wrote, it seems to me his involvement with shady scams were also the result of his mental illness making him believe these things, rather than setting out to deliberately scam anyone. Unfortunately so many of the conspiracies he's been drawn into are based in bigotry. The whole thing is tragic, and he's obviously in significant distress and I think truly believes people have done these horrible things to his son. I really hope that he can get proper help and treatment.

That one part about adrenochrome is a HUGE red flag in this story. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the ties to Qanon specifically because it’s been a huge part in that world of conspiracy. It’s pretty concerning he’s claiming his son was harvested for adrenochrome because it falls into the whole blood libel thing Qanon has going on atm. The thing is though is that disabled kids can definitely be mistreated by the medical system, as any disabled person can be due to so many reasons. I’m in Canada myself and am chronically I’ll and it’s not a walk in the park at all trying to get medical help consistently for my own health conditions. But I don’t know about James’ story since there’s no true evidence and he’s sketchy in general.

I've worked with critical patients and think I can explain the plastic bag thing. There are specific types of oxygen masks that are used to provide 100% oxygen when a patient is hypoxic (low on oxygen). It's most often used with burn victims to treat carbon monoxide poisoning and we used them a lot with Covid pneumonia as well as sepsis, which is what I believe was meant when they said it was for an infection. Regardless, 100% O2 treatment is only temporary as there is such a thing as oxygen poisoning. I don't believe treatment would have been as short as 10 minutes, unless Jimmy responded poorly to the treatment, in which case it would have been discontinued very quickly. 3 minutes is also a little short, but not unplausible. The claim that it lasted 30 seconds sounds more like the head doctor was referring to how quickly it takes to switch oxygen masks (though it's usually much, much quicker, so I'm really not sure about this one). Finally, these plastic bags are very thick, single-use (one patient only before being discarded), and are sort of shaped like like an enema bag, meaning they're wayyyyyyyy to small to fit over anyone's head, let alone an 11-year old. There is absolutely no way that this kid would have been suffocated like that, and even if he was placed on a 100% oxygen mask, it would have exactly the opposite effect of suffocation, because it's exactly what it says on the tin: 100% oxygen. This is, of course, if that is what was meant by "plastic bag". I haven't finished the video yet, but I thought I'd share my knowledge before continuing! :)

11:30 as someone who speaks pretty broken Japanese but with decent pronunciation, if James has been living in Japan for so long that he has gotten used to whichever dialect to which he’s grown accustomed, it makes sense for his delivery of English to be deadpan/monotone compared to someone who speaks only English. Japanese overall is not a very “expressive” language in terms of fluctuating pitch/tone (unless in poetry or song), compared to a language like English where we emphasize certain words in our sentences to give different context to the sentence, or in China where there are, like, 8 different inflections to a syllable which can all mean different things. To me, his talking sounded like someone who is used to speaking Japanese speaking in English. That being said, idk anything about his son Jimmy and haven’t formed an opinion on this as a whole b/c this vid is the first I have heard of it.

My theory was almost the same as your second one, Jimmy was definitely born with some kind of condition and the father easily falls into conspiratorial thinking. He may have accidentally hurt his son trying alternative treatments, but I'm quite certain Jimmy was born with this condition. The difference in my theory is that someone really did try to suffocate him, because of his condition. Some doctors think severely disabled people should not be alive. He could have been "healthy" in the sense that he was at his baseline, went in for a cold (which is probably more serious given his condition), and have been mistreated in the hospital.

Just makes me think that the poor boy does have something degenerative and dad doesn't want to admit that his son won’t get better. It also vaguely reminds me of the Hollie Dance situation; She’s a mother whose 12 year old son hanged himself and she’s still fighting for him to be on life support, even though his brain stem is necrotic to the point where it is liquid. The English courts have declared him legally dead, but she swears it was only because the hospitals want to harvest his organs and not because he’s actually dead. She's also stated that they’ve given him sepsis, his neck is broken, medical neglect, etc. I absolutely do not doubt that it's hard for parents to see their children leave the earth, especially so young. As a parent it's expected for you to fight for your child, no matter what, and I can see it in both situations. Denial really warps the perception of the truth. It can be terrifying. (... but I can see this specific case being some weird Munchausen by Proxy case. I think knowing about Unit 731 does give him some vague excuse to blame the Japanese government and doctors.)
@Valerie-nm1gr
@Valerie-nm1gr 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking this as well, wasn't familiar with the Dance case but it seems similar to some cases where I live in America, like Jahi McMath and Terri Schiavo. Basically, cases where something went wrong and a person they loved ends up brain dead, but the family doesn't understand that or doesn't want to believe it. Brain dead people are just dead people, they have no higher order brain functioning and everything that made that person "them" is gone, their brains become liquid or calcified over time. But they can be hooked up to life support and appear to keep going, so people who love them and don't want to say goodbye to them keep them in that state. The clip in this video where the father is trying to talk to the son, saying "Jimmy? Jimbo?" is very reminiscent of tapes from Schiavo's case, her family recorded hours and hours of footage of her and then cherry picked a few minutes where she appeared to "respond" to stimuli, looking in their direction when they said her name and so forth, but it's just reflex actions from the brain stem, there is nobody in there to respond to anything. Ironically, after Schiavo was removed from life support and autopsied, it was found that she had been blind for a decade, so there was absolutely no chance she had ever seen any of the things her family claimed her eyes were following in their videos. It's easy to accuse families in these cases of being grifters, and maybe that's true to some extent, but I get why people are so passionate about trying to save and protect their loved ones and refuse to believe that they're gone. Especially in the cases of children like Jimmy or Jahi McMath.

I would not want to live that way and I would not want my vessel to be kept alive that way. When I heard that the father had given Jimmy stem cell therapy, all I could think is one of two things: The "cold" that landed Jimmy in the hospital (who goes to the hospital for a cold? Oh, someone with a compromised immune system) was a direct result of this unregulated therapy that Dad just had to try on his kid - and found out in the worst way that it's not safe yet, due to contamination, or processing issues, or the like. Or, that Dad just can't accept that his therapy didn't work on Jimmy, so anything that happens to Jimmy from here on out is clearly someone else's fault. Perhaps it's a combination of both.

She had many misfortunes in her life and due to how acutely mentally ill she was it was impossible to tell which were unfortunate incidents, and which were self induced or murky situations(relationships that weren't consensual, criminal activities she was persecuted for, child custody, etc). She was consistent in only two things, which were: 1. She was always a victim in every circumstance And 2. She was being proactively persecuted by just about every power possible, and nobody was listening to her or trying to help. A lot of what James presents sits dead on with my experience of Carol, and I can't help but think he experiences some shade of the same mental health struggles. Just my two cents.

One thing that's very strange to me is that supposed scan of the child's rib cage and spine. It appears that some of his ribs are twisting the wrong way, leaving half of his rib cage absent which is incredibly strange. Like, strange to the point where I don't believe those are real scans or at least, those aren't the scans of the child pictured. Yeah, as "a threat to stop me from exposing them" it doesn't really make sense, because if anything that would just give him more reason to expose them. But where even is the evidence of the things he was threatening to expose them for? He seems to have completely forgotten about what he originally wanted to expose. If somehow it WAS true, releasing what they wanted to keep covered up would at least corroborate their motive for going after him.

after looking through all this, I think it's probably safe to say that Jimmy has some sort of severe congenital condition and his father is experiencing paranoia and persecutory delusions. I really try to not diagnose strangers on the internet because it's not useful most of the time, but the dates changing and details that don't make any sense really remind me of my encounters with people who are disconnected from reality that I met when I was hospitalized in a psych ward for severe depression. It's the same kind of rambling, vaguely scared, vaguely accusatory, detail shifting talk. The mention of whatever that supposed stuff that comes as a side product of adrenaline is what really sinks this for me. It sounds like the exact kind of Qanon/conspiracy-fueled pseudoscience that, unfortunately, many people who are very mentally ill start getting into. It's all kinds of sad. Like you said, Jimmy does seem to be actually suffering. But I think it's safe to say that his father is completely disconnected from reality. Also, as someone else pointed out in their comment: That supposed skeletal scan of Jimmy's looks more like that of an elderly woman. I can't personally confirm that 100% because I'm not good enough with bones, but I don't think it's Jimmy's. Sad.

True. Where I live there was a father who lost a son to true medical malpractice (the boy suffered an accident and had organs removed for "donation" without being brain dead). The doctors involved were punished years later and while I understand justice here is kinda lazy and ineffective (it took more than a decade for the doctors to be punished), the boy's father went totally crazy. He ran away from the country, allegedly persecuted. He started massive conspiracy campaigns against pretty much anything, mainly "the new world order". He became a famous far-right icon in the internet for some time. He must still be around in sites like QAnon.

I don't know exactly what's going on with Jimmy but as a biochemist I highly doubt Jimmy received stem cell therapy in 1998. What we think of stem cell therapy today was in its infancy and still very experimental (excluding bone marrow transplants, of course) and I can't believe that a child that young would have qualified for a medical trial. If memory serves, one of the 1st well known trials was stopped because one of the individuals involved developed a form of cancer from the treatment (which makes sense; pluripotent stem cells derived from your own cells require alteration of expression of genes that are known to be involved in cancer). I suspect, looking at the younger pictures of Jimmy that he has cerebral palsy (I can't say 100% that's the case since I'm not a doctor, but I have known children with the condition) and it makes me wonder if some sort of desperate treatment worsened the condition. CP on it's own will not worsen, but other conditions can affect outcomes and life expectancy (such as also having epilepsy). Whatever is going with Jimmy the way his father is approaching the situation feels very off and exploitative to me, and feels borderline abusive. I have to wonder where Jimmy's mother and other relatives are and why they are allowing this to happen. Anyway, I'd never heard of this before today. Thanks for bringing attention to the situation. Hopefully Jimmy is in a safe environment now and being well cared for!

So the only thing I could figure would be that the oxygen mask came in a plastic bag wrapping and that wasn't removed before it was used. That'd be accidental but it could happen. Whether it was a suffocation event or the plastic stopped the flow of oxygen to someone who needs it (also leading to suffocation.) The allegations of starving the kid could come from the family misunderstanding about muscle wasting in people who can't move or move regularly. It can definitely look extremely alarming. If I assume the family is in Japan and he wasn't disabled before this treatments.... I'd go with those and then the family/dad not understanding what's going on. I don't believe it though.

Honestly, as soon as you said he was already sick and bedridden, I assumed the plastic bag was simply attempted murder. In Japan, having severe disabilities is something as a culture (not everyone, please don’t misunderstand me) they are ashamed of. There was a serial killer named Satoshi Uematsu who worked in care facilities for the disabled who covertly murdered them and straight up admitted when he was caught that they were better off and the families would be relieved they were finally no longer burdened with them. I wouldn’t be shocked if some doctor or nurse took it upon themselves to do the same and everyone covered up for them because of this horrible stigma, so as not to be “another Satoshi Uematsu situation”, a PR nightmare for their hospital, especially since it was a military hospital so it would reflect on the country even more poorly

They’re innocent and cannot speak with regards to their treatment. Also, vitamins can be delivered alternatively. Crap like this is horrible. The children who are victims are bypassed because of this kind of stuff. Also, if he’s that invested in his delusions he easily could have caused it himself … a sort of Munchhausen by proxy. The pseudoscience has to do with the Fibonacci sequence/frequency which is a real thing, but ike many things of pseudoscience I’m is based on truth mixed in with a whole bunch of fairy dust.

I think that people can’t cope with the fact that such a tragic thing could happen to them, and so they look for a reason. Most of the people I knew whose children had high support needs autism believed that it was because of vaccines or something similar. I can only imagine how a person like James- who was already involved in a lot of pseudoscientific businesses- would react to a sudden severe worsening in his child’s health. This makes perfect sense to me, unfortunately.

There have also been many instances medical professionals or caregivers who killed patients, throughout history. However, nothing else about it really adds up? Like, just for starters, suffocation seems like a really obvious and inelegant way to kill someone in a hospital. I'd expect something like a high dose of morphine or another drug being used to purposely overdose the patient. Add to that the inconsistencies in the story, the claims of adrenochrome harvesting, the weird fake companies... it's safe to say James isn't a reliable narrator here.

As *shocking* as it is, disabled people are such more likely to suffer abuse and neglect, and substandard care from medical staff.
