I’ve always wondered that too, and I’ve been clear that in 1992, the world just wasn’t ready for a female powerhouse duo with such a dark, edgy entrance. I mean, this was the same world that turned against the Lilith fair. Pop was so lighthearted back then and there was probably little market for something like this that pushed the envelope. And I don’t think this group lasted very long. At least this song became known, with that unforgettable gothic video!

‘Going global on an atomic level’ - that song was a #4 at the Billboard Hot 100 later in the year - most non-US acts would rather be a one-hit wonder there than have a horde of minor hits in the same country - they never had any big hits again as Detroit was fired the next year

I've seen several interviews with her and that certainly seems to be the case. Probably because she had so much experience coming up through the ranks; she had far more credibility as a musician than Siobhan even though more people knew who Siobhan was from Bananarama. Most people don't realize that the high dueting voice on several of Eric Clapton's classics are Marcy, and that she wrote some of his biggest hits. She has credibility running through her veins.

Wow if you pay close attention to the vibrational changes in Both Marcella and Siobhan's voices, they were breaking and getting emotional and tried very hard to push through it. Good God!! They KNEW it was their last performance and were emotional about it. You can tell that they enjoyed performing together. The music press at the time tried so hard to make it seem that they both had constant catfights. Their was at least 38,000 people in that audience. Absolute chills. What an honour it is to be a 90's kid.

Siobhan Máire Deirdre Fahey ( born 10 September 1958) is an Irish singer and musician, whose vocal range is a light contralto. She was a founding member of the 1980s British/Irish girl group Bananarama, who had several top 10 hits including the US number one hit single "Venus". She later formed the Brit Award and Ivor Novello Award-winning musical act Shakespears Sister, who had a UK number one hit with the 1992 single "Stay". Fahey joined the other original members of Bananarama for a 2017 UK Tour, and later in 2018, a North America and European Tour. Marcella Levy (born June 21, 1952), known professionally as Marcella Detroit, is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. She co-wrote the 1977 Eric Clapton hit "Lay Down Sally" and released her debut album Marcella in 1982. She joined Shakespears Sister in 1988 with ex-Bananarama member Siobhan Fahey. Their first two albums, Sacred Heart (1989), and Hormonally Yours (1992), both reached the top 10 of the UK Albums Chart. Detroit sang the lead vocals on their biggest hit, "Stay", which spent eight consecutive weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart in 1992. Detroit left the band in 1993 and had a UK top 20 hit with "I Believe" in 1994. She formed the Marcy Levy Band in 2002, and finished third in the 2010 ITV series Popstar to Operastar.

Was 12-13 in Devon on summer hols at a place called Finlake campsite and the dance night music blasting then this song came on and goosepimples. Always as a kid it was the sound of the song rather than the words that got my emotions. Was one of my best hols and i`ll always go back there when i here this song and each time the goosepimples again. Not many songs can do that to me anymore, in fact i can`t think of another, was that time of your life when everything is new and most exciting and the ethereal sound of this song connects with that powerful emotional memory.

I can't believe how good that was... Considering at that point it had been so many years since they did that song... Her voice was just as amazing as ever...

The song was released in 1992 and according to the video, this performance was also from 1992....

I was confused when I found that out. I'm guessing whoever posted this, got the dates wrong? Either way, it was still pretty good.

Joobie Joob Nah, you were going by the upload date buddy :) It's a common thing on KZbin, you can take a video from 1940 or 1975 and upload it and KZbin will show the upload date only. The uploader sometimes (but rarely) might put the original air date in the description. Never take a YT upload date as a creation date :)

Marcella's vocals are still amazing to this day. A great shame they couldn't find a way to get along with each other professionally because musically, they really complimented each other, even if Siobhan seems high in this performance..?

according to Wikipedia the song stay basically broke them up as fahey didn't like the song because she wasn't the lead on it and its success led to a lot of the discord enough that Marcella didn't even know she was fired from the group until it was announced by video in an awards show....in 93
