side note-because I noticed that you own the wordsworth classics version of the count of monte cristo-as a translator myself, I would strongly urge you to prefer the Robin Buss translation (penguin edition) for this one, because he really does a beyond amazing job and the difference is HUGE. the other english publications of that novel use the unknown translators’ versions of the time that the novel was first being translated and they are significantly harder to read and comprehend, which takes away from the story. that’s it, just something to consider 😊 (i guess i’m very passionate about my profession lol)

Totally agree I love the Robin Buss translation!! When I was reading this I left my copy at home but had a whole afternoon to spare in a bookstore. I picked up their copy and started reading it from around where I left off but felt that something was off and sorely missing. After a few pages I couldn't go on, realized that the Buss translation was way way better.

Leave the doors! I think your original idea of getting the add on shelves is better- you can get yourself a stool to act as a side table for your chair that doubles as a small step ladder. You can still use the wardrobe as bookshelves (with the doors) as well- maybe place the smuttier stuff OR OR your not so favorite books hidden away in there. Wardrobe of shame reads.

You did really well. My parents have 35 pallets of boxes of books. This winter we are going to be creating a home library, going through the boxes, putting them on shelves, and then selling all excess next spring. Hey Jack, as someone who is going through a home renovation / move as well, I do have some tips as I also went with IKEA hardware and furniture, but also wanted to add that built in look. Other than bolting it to the wall (and there are little plastic covers that you can put over the head of the screw that match that color so it doesn't stand out, I would also strongly recommend screwing the bookshelves together. This will close the gap between the bookshelves, and make it look a lot more clean and custom. It also has an added benefit of adding a bit more rigidity to the overall structure. Good luck, and I am loving it so far! (this is only if you havent already done these things of course)
