So the thory is: it's possible that her son died before the events in Fontain archon quest so he was able to put some of his conciseness in the seashell you use for the toy that found at the bottom of the ocean thanks to his oceanid powers, similar how Ei put hers in the sword and Miko in the garment she gave us. If you translate Thelxie's voicelines from morse code he's been talking to his mother for a while already. She's not imagining Thelxie is her son, she really has been talking to him. Hence at the end you see her son instead of the toy!

It’s super poignant for Freminet and one of the most endearing heartfelt events around a 4* character ever. Freminets own mother is gone and he fears she would not be proud of who he’s grown up to be. This must be especially touching for him, as not as he had people around him afflicted with loneliness syndrome (depression), but he is helping a mother deal with the loss of her child. I love Fremi so much 😭

(Fun aside before depressing stuff; "Loneliness Disease" is, like, 1-to-1 with a 'real' illness, "The morbs" or "feeling morbid" is an old Victorian era 'illness' that starting to treat it like an illness would cause the future medical society to understand depression much better, and thusly lead into the modern understanding OF what we now call "Depression".) It was sad once the ball started rolling in the event, but I wasn't hit any harder than anyone else, but then it hit me with Freminet's last "I hope everyone who is in a dark place will get to see something beautiful, and have a maricle of their own." and a cascade of emotion hit me like a tidal wave. I'm not in the best part of my life, haven't been for a few years now, and it hurt how much that Freminet's remark felt targeted at me, be it from Freminet, or from Mihoyo I started bawling because I'd never felt so seen. And I forward the gesture. I hope everyone else in a dark place gets their own miracle, and gets to see beautiful things again.

This is one of Hoyoverse's masterpiece in storytelling. It's amazing how they know how to direct a story so that it tugs hard on your heartstrings. This is one memorable event that I will now have in my memory.

Okay just to give a quick explanation about the Morse Code that Thelxie says throughout the event: Yes, it does mean something. Yes, it is in French. However, is not that straightforward. When you translate the Morse Code, it will look like a jumble of letters. This is because the letters are shifted over by 1. This is mentioned in one of the journals that you can find in Freminet's temporary camp. Think of it as a Caesar's cipher, where you have to shift the letters by one to the left. This will then convert the jumble of letters into French, which you can then translate. An example of this is the four letter word that Thelxie likes to say a lot: -.. -... .-- -... -> DBWB -> CAVA -> How's it going/What's up As for the longest sentence Thelxie says: -.- ..-. ..- -... .--- -. ..-. -. -... -. -... --- -> KFUBJNFNBNBO -> JETAIMEMAMAN -> I love you mom (as you will see in the end when Thelxie turns into the kid)

My favourite minor detail is Thelxie asking "Ça va?" while making a cute little beep-boop noise. The whole time I kept getting a sweet but slightly uncanny feeling that the machine is capable of speaking like a kid due to how friendly and melodic its voice is ♫ ♪ As for the morse code dialogues and cutscenes, use a Caesar cipher (shift each letter one place back in the alphabet) and translate from French! For example: "- ..-. ...- --" ➟ "TFVM" ➟ "SEUL" ➟ "Alone"

Watching this back I'm realizing "woah, extremely Venti story quest 1 vibes," and I'm starting to wonder if this is actually a bit of a subtle lore drop... back then we got a magic eyeglass which lets you see other people's imaginary friends, and Fischl is a walking embodiment of "yes it's all fantasy but also it's lowkey real," so I feel like Hoyo has been really purposefully blending the lines of fiction and reality in Teyvat for a while now. (+ on a less meta more emotional level, the fact that fantasies and stories and imagination can impact your real lived experience and emotions can absolutely be called a little miracle. even without souls of the dead staying with us and imaginary worlds being literally real, fantasy can have a lot of power to help people)

And Freminet’s message and wish was just the thing that did me in💙 I have been in a truly dark place before, but then I found Genshin (you could say Genshin saved me) after years and years of constant bullying and ridicule (including my own parents). Most of it was because we didn’t know what was going on with me (I’m doing MUCH better now, and I don’t harbor those… thoughts anymore either^^ + my parents fully support me now) We are instead dealing with me being trans, so there’s that ^^; But, hey, what’s life without a liiiittle bit of drama🙃💖

I have yet to find someone mentioning this but the random tidbits of poetry in the event come from Sylvia Path's work titled "Full Fathom Five" Full fathom five thy father lies; Of his bones are coral made; Those are pearls that were his eyes: Nothing of him that doth fade, But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange. In the poem, Plath sees her father as a Poseidon/Neptune figure of such immense proportions that he cannot be grasped by the eyes or mind. He is not simply a god, but rather defies godhood and she has taken great pains to emphasize his colossal figure and magnificence. He is too large for her to even fathom or understand. Plath's tone is one of awe and wonder at her father's vastness, but also at his danger. However, though he and his watery life are dangerous, she admits she would "breathe water" in order to join him. Plath was fond of the sea, both in life and in her art. She wrote of her experiences with the sea in "Ocean 1212-W": "And this is how it stiffens, my vision of that seaside childhood. My father died, we moved inland. Whereon those nine first years of my life sealed themselves off like a ship in a bottle-beautiful, inaccessible, obsolete, a fine, white flying myth." This connection helps to understand both why she saw her father as a sea god and why the setting is so emotional and impossible. The sea is a place of nostalgia for a distant past. She cannot return to it, but instead can only observe it from afar, when memory allows. I'm thinking this lady thinks very similarly about her son.

No one should ever think of that, much less a child... As a suicide survivor myself it made me cry, with the way one life can seriously impact the ones around it. But it didn't just take a depressing turn, it framed it in a way that shows us that there is hope and love for us out there, even if we feel so awful that we start bending reality around us into distorted perceptions. The rainbow, the love between mother and child, strangers who don't even know you, reaching out a hand to help, because the kindness in people's hearts still exists. Im gonna cry.

tbh I always start the world quests when I want to relax and have some music on with a cup of tea reading the world quests as if I'm reading a book it feels so cozy and nice especially when it's so interesting and have good writing like sumeru's and fontaine's ones :)

I don't know who wrote this story, but they wanted to send a message, and by God, did they deliver.
