Great job, Dave! This is a feature that I have not used so far, but will do so in the future. An additional feature for Tony to consider is the size of the file as many people request a file size in megabytes. If you’re using the auto save feature, it would be nice to know file size ahead of time.

Thanks so much for the deep dive it answered so many questions that kept me from using the module. More on web sharpen would be appreciated. As I use Lightroom Classic it would be helpful if there is some way to round trip the saved file to the original folder or to a subfolder in the original folder. Perhaps applying an action in the web sharpen folder but I am not sure an action round tripping the file can be configured. Thanks again.

Hi Dave, A good refresher thanks. I tend to use the auto save and auto close once I am happy with the outcome and don't use the save for web as this seems an extra step I dont need unless I am missing something?
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Жыл бұрын
I agree Peter. Once you get the sharpening set the way you like it then Auto Save and Auto Close is the way to go with just a CTRL or command click.

The Browser video was more about how to view your editing results in the browser to see how the edit is coming along. This video is about the Web-Sharpen Panel in detail.

I have been avidly watching through your library of tutorials for tk8. Thanks so much for such a valuable resource, really gaining condidence now in thinking about how edits might work, in fact confidence that i can make something i like out of a raw image. One small question that came out of this tutorial was how you create the white frame action that you use. I have tried to source how to do this for a while hence it pricked my interst when I spotted you used it. Do you explain this in any other tutorials, or have the action available?
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly

Roger that is great news. Tony made that white frame action. I'll try to remember to ask Tony about that and how he made it.

Great video Dave, I would like to learn how to create my own watermark, also if you sharpen your image prior by using The Topaz suite do you still need web sharpening, looks like this reduces the size of the image so it has to apply more sharpening ? Thanks Rick
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Жыл бұрын
I would Rick. You will be downsizing the images and web sharpening will help.

Great lesson, Dave. Would you use web sharpen on photos that you email to friends?
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Жыл бұрын
I would. Generally they will be smaller and they will be viewing them on a computer or tablet device and web sharpening will give them a nice sharp image. The only time I wouldn't would be if you would be allowing them to make prints.

Very useful video,Dave, as usual. Yes to the extra features. I don’t really understand the difference between using the fit button and the horizontal or vertical button. They seem the do the same thing? Any chance you could explain the difference in the extras video please. If the fit button works on horizontal and vertical photos, does the panel need the horizontal and vertical buttons? Maybe Tony K could comment?
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Жыл бұрын
If the image is a Vertical crop it will honor the Vertical pixel dimensions when you use fit. If the image is a horizontal crop it will honor the Horizontal pixel dimensions when you use fit. The image will always keep the same aspect ratio.
@keithsimpson8676
@keithsimpson8676 Жыл бұрын
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly I understand that Dave, so why do we need a vertical and horizontal button. Fit seem to do the job for both.
@TonyKuyper
@TonyKuyper Жыл бұрын
"Vert" button always honors the value in the "Height" field as the final height of the sharpened image. "Horz" button always honors the value in the "Width" field as the final width of the sharpened image. "Fit" button always fits the resized image within the box created by the "Height" and "Width" values. In all three cases the aspect ratio of the image remains unchanged. One way to experiment with this is with an image with a 4:3 aspect ratio and have the "Height" and "Width" fields set to a 3:2 ratio. Once you play with this combination, you'll see that these three buttons are indeed different. An even simpler example is to work with a square image (1:1 aspect ratio) and again have the "Height" and "Width" fields set to a 3:2 ratio. You really have to play with some actual images to see what's going on. Suffice it to say that vertical images do not always get resized to the value in the "Height" field with the "Fit" button. There are situations where the "Width" field will be the controlling value for vertical images when using the "Fit" option. Overall, once I know the size of the box I want the sharpened image to fit in (for me it's 800-px high by 1100-px wide), then "Fit" is my logical choice as it works for all images sharpened for my particular purpose (viewing on my monitor). But there are situations where I want all images, landscape or portrait, to be a given height after sharpening, in which case I'll use "Vert" to do the resizing. It's the "Horz" button that I don't actually use all that much.

Thanks, Dave, this is great information. I've been using the panel for a while, but often my images are not exact standard ratios (2x3, 4x5 etc) . Is there a way I can create a preset without inputting both width and height? I can do that on the panel when I don't save it as a preset, but as soon as I try to create a preset it requires both. If so, why?
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Жыл бұрын
Web Sharpen will always keep the aspect ratio of image. The amounts you enter for width and height allow the image output to honor whatever size you want. If you chose width it will honor that pixel dimension or if you chose height it will honor that dimension. If you chose fit it will honor the widest pixel dimension depending if it is a horizontal or vertical crop.

Is this useful for making a slide show in lightroom using web sharpening to improve the look on a screen?
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Жыл бұрын
That would depend on how large the files are. If you are keeping the files the original size I wouldn't but if you will be reducing the size it would help.
