Not possible to do. There are many games that were finished but never released, and are only known to those that worked on them. Then there's remasters, ports, and sequels, many of have the same name as their originals (KIller Instinct (SNES and XBone), Super Smash Bros (64 and Wii U/3DS, Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis and '06)). There's also the fact that many games have different titles between regions, like in the UK where all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games have to be renamed Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles. Unless someone with an eidetic memory were shown every video game in existence (at least everything that counts as a video game) there's no way someone could recite them all from memory.

@UltimateGamerCC4 жыл бұрын
yeah COMPLETING games like Jirard "The Completionist" would easy quadriple that time requirement or even more, as completing a game is far longer in scope than just finishing the game.
@mariopkmnzelda4 жыл бұрын
Personally I like finishing games. Playing isn’t substantial, when someone asks me if I’ve played a game and I haven’t finished it, I don’t feel comfortable telling them that yes I’ve played that game, for example I played maybe 1/3rd of Bayonetta, but I don’t feel like I can say I’ve played it with a straight face even though I technically have. Same with Yakuza, Final Fantasy 7, Tales of Symphonia, God of War, Spider-Man and lots more. All games I’ve played but have not finished, and all games I don’t like telling people I’ve “played.” Completing on the other hand is just too consuming and often times can turn a fun experience into a drag. I love the Kingdom Hearts games for instance, but I have never completed them because there is so much grinding involved in those games that completing them just wouldn’t be fun even though I really enjoy them. So finishing games is the sweet spot I think, finishing + the fun side stuff is good too.

I have a monstrous backlog and I prioritize games with a "save the best for last" mentality. This video was the EXACT wake up call I needed. I'm 23, my life is already a quarter of the way done. I'm only just playing Persona 5 now and I still haven't played FF7, Dragon Quest 11, Mario Odyssey, BoTw, Three Houses, Xenoblade 2 or even the last three most recent Pokemon games. And now I realize that if I prioritize games with the mind set of saving the ones I KNOW I'll enjoy the most for last, there's a very real possibility that I may die before I even get to them. And that's not even taking into account of books, TV, anime, movies or the number of games I plan on playing infinitely like MMOS and fighting games too. There's just too much good stuff that already exists AND is always coming out. So its time I take control of my life and prioritize games that I know I'll like the most and if I'm all out of that, THEN I'll dive into the niche ones that I'm interested in. I was really hyped when Bravely Default 2 was announced. I need to remember how that made me feel and only buy the games that make me feel that way. It's time to stop building the backlog and start assblasting it!

I could certainly fit in more than 1 hour of gaming a day alongside my 40 hour job. Taking into account travel, exercise, eating, maintaining basic hygiene ect. I could definitely find 2 or 3 hours to play a video game every night. It would just inadvertently mean doing absolutely nothing else with my free time.

You collect and rotate when get lost/frustrated. Digital Sales and preorder physical bonuses help for the full price ones. Gaming is like a random event, and I'm not even talking card/board products. We're no longer in an age where we need something to last like Chrono trigger with replay value, or be Nintendo hard.

Especially if “Good” is merely a scale, and there’s higher ones like “Great” or “Perfect”

Yeah, the Metacritic page of games with a score over 80 is very questionable, I could easily reduce it by 50% with barely any effort.

for me a good game ranges around 60, here's my scope on video game scores: 10-30 Bad 40-50 Mediocre 60-70 Good 80-90 Great 95-100 God Tier

*Super Metroid: Completionist: 9 hours* uh that doesnt sound right, but i might just be thinking of of the completion time bonus of beating the game in under 3 in-game hours. although im pretty sure when i played it on VC back in the day that i used a guide to find all items and i somehow still got in under 3 in-game hours.

I have a method for video game time management that has so far worked very well for me. I've nearly completed every game on my "to-play" list, even though it does grow gradually over time. 1. Play only genres I like. With rare exception, I don't enjoy "chill" games like Animal Crossing all that much. I'll play them for about 5-10 hours, then get bored. Sometimes I'll do that just to cross a game off my life. 2. Don't play grindy games. RPGs, optional missions, open world games. If the grind can be avoided or skipped, like in Monster Hunter, where you can focus only on one weapon tree and play through the story, I'll do that. If that's not an option, I skip the game entirely. 3. Don't play games for the story. Lots of games have terrible gameplay but great stories. If that's the case, I just watch the cutscenes on KZbin, usually at increased speed if it tends to drag. This is how I got through the Drakengard series, for instance. I'm doing the same for Fate:GO right now. 4. Play several at a time. No better way to make yourself sick of a game than to force yourself to beat it before playing another one. I play several games at a time, limit myself to 30m - 1h of playtime of each per day, then use my remaining time for other things. 5. Good games only. Don't waste time on mediocre releases. 6. Don't repeat play game sequels. I enjoyed the first Call of Duty, but they release a new one every year, and they're too similar for me to enjoy them. For this same reason, I also skipped Twilight Princess HD and Windwaker HD. They do have some key differences, but I've beaten these games before, and I have no interest in playing them again.

As someone who thinks about this a lot, I strangely felt some relief knowing that I'll just have to accept I can't play em all but will just cherish the ones I love. And never waste time on a bad game again

Oh silly Jwittz, before the age of 15 is prime time for gaming. Not joking, I started at age4, mastered Devil May Cry 2 by age 5 and I literally played a video game everyday, unless I got grounded, all the way to age 21, where I still play today. At least 3-5 hours a day with my record being 25 hours straight. Sure, I'm an outliar, but I've met SO MANY kids in my life that have similar stories and I still know a few that haven't really changed. Even when we work and exercise, we still find time to game.

After all that research, I think this channel needs more love. Game Critics gotta play so many games in such a short time and when they do it well, you'll want that game.

There are so many good games that I only ever buy game snow if they are on sale with a few exceptions such as Silksong when it releases. It's totally possible if you devote all your leisure time to games, cut down on sleep, some games can be played with one hand so eat while playing, get someone else to do other activities for you like shopping and cooking.

Absolutely loved the video. Thanks for addressing several if not all of the potential flaws in the data and how they could skew the numbers. The vid was just fascinating, I guess I’m weird for dumping 10+ hours a day whenever I play something like Terraria 😭

Well, I don't care about playing every single good game out there, since there are many good games in genres I simply don't care about. But even trying to simply play every single game that interests me... is a herculean task (especially since my favourite genre is RPGs)

What makes it easier if you consider that the majority of games pre-2010 don't hold up against modern standards (ignoring 2D/sprite-based games) and games you've got nostalgia for. If you only play games which would get an 90+ review if released today then you've got a pretty manageable list.

Oh boy... I'm avoiding those addictive (and financially abusive) gacha games on my phone during the entire quarantine. I just told to myself "I won't be spending a single second on those abusive games during the pandemic!" And now, after watching this video, I think I won't spend another single second with gacha games during the rest of my life! Time is too precious to be wasted on addictive little games with shallow mechanics, lots of unnecessary grinding and an abusive monetary system akin to slot machines. The time I spend to achieve nothing on those games in, let's say two weeks, is enough to beat some great games with life changing experiences. Say "no" to game drugs.

@TheJWittz something to consider, gaming streamers and speed runners. This would apply maximum (healthy) time gaming, as your work literally is playing games and your free time is playing other games. And speed runner who strive for the absolute minimum time in a game.
@jetkirby4 жыл бұрын
one metric you didn't account for(or minorly accounted for) is the fact you can discount many games on the list by genre by subjective value, only a few gamers are really asking "can i play all the good games" and those are gamers like jwittz describes himself as "always wanting to try new genres", what you should be asking is "can i play all the games in the 2-4 genres i already enjoy" or "that i want to play" and i think it's much more doable, but still ultimately impossible/impractical

You can buy a video game. You can partially choose how to spend your time. (lots of people always seem to say that they don't have time, but it's actually more a matter of priorities and motivation + energy, and also time perception; although living healthy might literally prolong your lifespan though) But you can't buy nor choose a girlfriend. Or... friends.
