If there's one change I hope they make in the remake, it's that they should have Lillymon face ShogunGekomon instead of MetalGreymon. That would have been a perfect way to solidify Mimi's character development, make Lillymon seem that much better by not having that form's debut be against a Champion-level, and make the story of why ShogunGekomon fell asleep in the first place come full circle. Licensing offers a good balance between risk and reward in entering a foreign market. The licensor, however, needs to do more than just offer up some assets and back off. They also need to choose their licensees carefully. Nintendo went right to the top with Wizards, and it probably would've stayed with them had The Pokémon Company never come into being. Bandai choosing Upper Deck is. . .just weird. It would've made some sense in the mid-90s while even Wizards was figuring things out, but in the late 90s/early 2000s? Strange move.

"Digimon and Pokemon seem to share a lot of similarities." Indeed, they seem to, and if you only look at them on a very surface level (as adults tend to do with media aimed at children because there's no way anything meant for children could ever be engaging to the adult mind...) then yes. They are similar. Both feature a male protagonist with spiky hair and a yellow monster companion. I'm not sure if anyone watched it or played it or if the game was even available in my country during the 2000s. I did come across several decks of cards in a game shop during the early-to-mid 2010s. And they were heavily discounted; about 50 cents per deck. For comparison, the modern Yu-Gi-Oh! boosters were between 2 to 3 euros at the time. @@michael_betts Well, actually, there should be. In the "Core World" there is, in fact, a Village of Beginnings. Buuut it works different... the data of the digimon travels all the way to the entrance of the so called "Dark Area" (Where the Seven Great Demon Lords and GrandDracumon live), and the protector of the entrance (Anubismon) sees if the digimon deserves another opportunity. If the Digimon was well behaved, it's data would become a Digitama and would go to the Village, if not, the data would be leaved at the Dark Area so other digimon can consume it or it would become a Dark Digitama itself. So... yeah, that's one of the Tamers things that bothers me... but don't get me wrong, Adventure didn't do it well neither.

I put a legit effort into the game as a kid. Wanna know what happened? The rules were a mess. No one could keep it straight for five minutes and that was when we had already mastered Pokemon, Magic, and Yugioh. The game also disappeared off the shelves so fast that after the initial few packs the ONLY way I was able to expand my collection was the movie promo cards that make me feel bad for exposing my unknowing family to... that mess... to get.

Digital Card Battle was awesome. There was actually two Digimon Card Video Games, but one existed only in Japan. Digital Card Battle is the actual sequel to it. It's still my favourite Digimon spinoff title too. I'll even say that the side mini-game in Digimon World 3 which is like a faster version of Digital Card Battle (uses the same card sprites too that Digital Card Battle uses plus all of the Digimon released in the third generation) is also quite fun too.

Because they're the better copies of MTG. Except im surprised that people actually play yugioh even more so without magnifying glasses. Konami really needs to sort that out MTG isn't that bad or hard to play.
@firewolf950tfwgaming74 жыл бұрын
Peter von Feldt Pretty sure Konami doesn’t have much of a problem with MTG other than seeing it as a competitor. As for the cards, most cards aren’t as long as people think and really isn’t much you need to know for them as a whole.
@DerVasto4 жыл бұрын
@@Openreality Thing is, most (if not all) Yugioh-cards can be simply broken down into shorter terms for understanding. "Once per turn, during your Main Phase: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; add 1 'I broke my hand'-card from your Deck to your hand. You can only activate this effect once per turn" can be shortened in your head to "banish this from grave during your own turn, and search for an archetypal card". Oh, and "Only once that turn" should explain itself. It really is just alot of words so that even mongrels without any sort of advanced understanding can just follow what the card tells them.

@Tong Zou And in its core, IT IS. Takahashi just made it as "game of the week" on chapter 9 of the manga. It was a clear reference to Magic. After that, he recieved various letters of the fans asking how to play or if the game would even become real. That's why he wrote the Duelist Kingdom arc, which unravels a ton more on the gimmicks the game should have (despite not much on it gone real) and makes it more original than "dumbed down Magic" while still being dumbed down Magic.

My brother and I had this when we were kids, though it was the starter decks and maybe a booster or two of the second set. We made up our own “speed battle” rule set since the normal game wasn’t fun to play lmao. IIRC it essentially boiled down to each player playing a Digimon and since your attack is based on the opponent, if you were gonna lose, you could slap down a new one from your hand, and then they could respond and then you, etc. until one person couldn’t respond with something better or their hand ran out. It was amusing enough from time to time lol
@onijester565 жыл бұрын
I think how my brothers and I worked it, we assumed the number doubled against an effective-type. This way digivolving wasn't necessary to win the battle, but it could net someone a match even if it meant digivolving into a type-disadvantage. I think this was inspired by the anime, where the triad of data/virus/vaccine didn't matter too much to the actual fights. I also think the hand-limit was 7 cards. Because we were kids. And no redraws.
@Echidneys5 жыл бұрын
Kids do that all the time--making up a game within a game--and sometimes it could be more fun than the intended way to play. It pays to have an active imagination, lol

There were Digimon cards (and old Fox Kids magazines) in a trunk at their house up until a couple years ago.
