The slider should have a setting to always be at minimum troops for 100%
@bam_mab9190
@bam_mab9190 Жыл бұрын
ideally, yes I do like that Idea. It would be helpful and it would save valuable seconds. The real issue though, is Pete plans in his head and then goes max speed and stops thinking after he sets the slider the first time. Yes it's not intuitive but we all know how to use it. To do something incorrectly, that you know is incorrect over a hundred times is not the games fault. Like the first 10, sure that is a learning curve. Everything else is kind of careless. Love Pete, obviously tune in every video, but I just disagree that it's the sliders fault.

@@bam_mab9190 I wholeheartedly disagree - IT IS the sliders fault. There is only one reason to use the slider, which is to modify how many troops you want to use on "an attack". "An Attack" is a single/atomic action, its shouldn't persist over multiple attacks. The fact that the slider "remembers" is faulty (never mind that it also reduces the attacking force to align with how many troops a territory has - often tripping up people who are "going around the board" to kill a bunch of 1's...)

To prevent stalemate in long caps games the simplest solution I could think of is limit caps to arbitrary number. 250, 500, 999 etc. maybe even have a setting you could manipulate when hosting the match. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I also don't think Pete was implying that faith makes people simple-minded. I personally think it's more of the case that people who are already simple-minded tend to be drawn in by religion. Religious institutions love these people because they're easily manipulated, which makes it easy to drum up hate for others and divide us.

The slider design is to mimick real war. You have to deploy troops properly. You cant just smash “kill” and win. If you atack fast and dumb, you loose more. If you attack slow and smart, you win more. In this case, don’t hate the game, hate the player.

I know you hate it when people say correct or not correct but I actually think any semi complex move or move where you have to take lots of territories makes slider blitzing incorrect. The mistake rate is too high and the risk of what happens when you fail because of slidering is high as well. So the cost of a few troops over the course of a game where hundreds of troops are won and lost to ensure the moves are successful is worth it. When I watch long games of any streamer or yter then make errors with the slider almost every game. So at a point I stop because my own cost analysis is that I would cost myself more using the slider than not.

Most people who hate the religion really hates the clergy, you sound like that to me. I'm catholic, but i have problems with the current Pope and with some of the clergy who profess the theology of liberation, a heretic theology who says Jesus was some kind of revolutionary hippie who wanted "social justice". And your religion concept seems way too strange. I assume you never heard of natural law? Sure, the nature of this world is one full of injustices and suffering, but we have God-given rights that even the government can't take from us. The first one is life. There can't be any rights without the right to life, that's why we should protect human life from conception till death. I suppose you understand a child isn't really your body, the premise is already wrong. But still, we tell people all the time what they can't do with their bodies: You can't drive under the influence, you can't go around naked anywhere you want, you can't kill yourself or kill someone because they wanted it (at least you couldn't 20 minutes ago). And i'd argue all of those are pretty good reasons to have some kind of restriction on peoples liberties. Sure, we shouldn't regulate how much salt you can ingest, but as we live in a society, there are some behavior that we don't find acceptable, and the law is all about that, otherwise, we'd live in anarchy, again. If more understood the concept of human dignity, they'd see that living druged on the streets can't lead to a fulfilling life. And an addict doesn't destroy only his live, but of all his family and his community as well. Maybe you think there should be no government at all?
@TheKillPeteStrategy
@TheKillPeteStrategy Жыл бұрын
I don't hate religion per se I hate rules that don't make sense and won't work. I do not believe in rights as a concept, I find conversations about rights to be mostly high minded platitudes to make us feel better about our poverty and enslavement and give us false hope. Yes, my definition of religion is extremely broad. Social justice is currently function like the newest religion. So you're doing a fairly good job of articulating my position which I appreciate. Again the notion of human dignity is another idea that I would question. If we truly sought to emobdy a virtue of human dignity every person alive today would see the fact that any other person would be homeless or starving as so unacceptable we would end it in an instant together. And until we do that as a minimum baseline I find conversations about rights, dignity and natural law to fall flat to my ears. It's a nice way to get lawyers to charge 100s of dollars and hour but not as nice a way to actually lift up so many from poverty.

I think creating a law is a compromise. It's admitting that we have failed as a culture to regulate behaviour properly and need some priest class of nerds to codify our behaviour for us. Law does not equal justice. As far as drug use look into experiments where they gave mice cocaine. If the mice had no stimulation in their lives they became hopelessly addicted to the cocaine, if they did have 'proper' stimulation they did not. Apply this principle to humans and I would say it's not the drug that's the problem, but again the fact that the culture is sick and not providing us with meaningful choices and actions. @@suedoemine1832

The slider is ridiculous. If you are rolling a 10 v 1 with real dice, it makes no difference to your odds of losing troops whether you attack with 4 or 10, so why they have that has a function, is beyond me. It seems more like a glitch they just don't want or know how to fix.

I hope that when you are discussing philosophy from a perspective of education that you remember to do so more or less atheistically to your own philosophy. I think you have a really cool platform for it but would hate to see you go down the modern ideogogue route like so many these days. Then when people are educated we can all discuss our takes on it from a place of strength.

Do you believe in right and wrong, or morals in general. You said your Spiritual, but not religious. What is the foundation of this belief. How do you define your spirituality? Religions tell you what they believe, because they believe in morals. If someone believes in being good to others, and loving others, and DOESN’T tell other people about it, then they probably don’t believe it. I’m very religious, not because I want to tell you how to live, but because I have concluded that there is a higher power, and following that higher power is the right thing to do. If that’s the case, then what am I supposed to do BESIDES share my beliefs. If I don’t share them, that leaves everyone else in a worse position. (We should separate sharing your ideals, and actually forcing people into your beliefs. Me telling someone “believe this or I’ll hurt you” is quite different than saying “not believing in this will make you have a worse life.” Also, religions don’t do things, people do. Every group, the “left,” or “right,” Christians, Pagans, Muslims, has done something terrible. That doesn’t mean that those religions are. Attack the doctrines of a religion, not the actions individuals might take.)

My approach to conversations of ethics is from the perspective of a philosopher not a theologian. Yes I do believe in ethics but the vantage point of the observer tells us much about the sorts of ethical valuations that observer will make.

My opinion on religion is that there is no mystical god that creates us, but there is something that balances energy in life, which can be understood as everything we can’t comprehend. I also think being religious is positive because it helps you maintain good values, but also choose your own values that match who you want to be from there.

such a lopsided game, So I had to comment on the free will question. "do we have free will?".... - The answer is not what most people would like to hear because it has no regard for law, decency, or feelings in any way.... The answer is Yes of course you have free will, but first you have to abandon social norms, personal convictions, and even human decency. The you have to be willing to pay for that with social consequences, personal psychological consequences, and if you have a religion your religious consequences.... If you have the ability disregard all those roadblocks then absolutely you can make any choice you so desire. Its the main reason why a True Sociopath is extremely scary to most people.

@@TheKillPeteStrategy We are constrained by our nature, however we are also (in animal terms) extremely cognitive with an ability to rationalize a lack of empathy.... Think Soldiers, as a soldier we were told to take out the enemy. Why ?because... they are evil, save our country, save brothers in arms, save self. very strong rationalization. It does not feel good nor is it a primary impulse, but its happens daily. As far as "True Sociopaths" which are quite rare, They have no need of that rationalizing because they had no roadblocks. Side note: One of the most interesting things about True Sociopaths is that they do not suffer from any other the other crippling mental Psychoses that "murderers" do. .... Wait... OK So now I have to completely rethink my answer and Say Maybe Pete is more correct, we only have the illusion of free will and the only people with FREE WILL by definition are True Sociopaths...

After watching so many of your videos, you seemed to express more conservatism than not. However, while viewing this one, I was dissapointed to hear that you do not seem to value the life of a human being inside a mother's womb. Government has every right (and should) protect the life of the innocent, I'm sure you would agree. As for telling women what to do with their bodies, the government of course cannot prevent them from having sex. Promiscuous women must know and face the cosequences of sex, which, lots of times ends up being pregnancy. Many women think abortion is the only way, and many regret it because it is simply not natural to end your own child's life. There are organizations that will help women who have unwanted pregnancies (pregnancy resource centers), and that spare the life of the child... maybe you know about them, maybe you don't. I certainly hope that you would agree that when a life can be spared, it should be, even at the cost of someone's convenience or comfort. I would definitly encourage you to dig deeper into this topic and learn how and why abortion became a thing. Sometimes all people hear is pro-abortion propanganda, and they accept it without question. Unless you actually have no respect for human life, you will find that the case for abortion does not hold water, especially when compared to the case for life.

The best way I’ve found to genuinely confuse religious people is by using logic. Asking them how many times they’ve told their kids only a “God” can create life ruins them 😂
@TheKillPeteStrategy
@TheKillPeteStrategy Жыл бұрын
With most systems of faith everything follows nice and logically once the leap of faith is taken. The disconnect is getting a person to admit they believe something 'for no reason' which is totally fine and I have no judgment of that. I take all sorts of things on faith personally. But I don't go around trying to fit that into a package of logic to try and convince others to think as I do...

It often makes people happy to assume that others are stupid compared to themselves, but it is quite insulting and naive to think that religious people cannot use logic.

@@TheKillPeteStrategy There is nothing wrong with trying to convince someone. If you are walking towards a cliff, I would try to convince you not to do that. The problems seem to come from the assumption that all religions are wrong or that we couldn't know if one of them actually was true. Assuming that religious people only believe, because they cannot think for themselves is simply naive.

Re: Abortion. I don't like it, but I respect a woman's right to choose - my opinion on the matter isn't relevant. Re: Drugs. While I loathe them with the fury of a thousand suns - I think decriminalizing them is probably the best route to go - it will ruin the drug trade which is just a net positive, and it makes it a lot easier to help addicts. This, from someone who watched his father become a driver for drug dealers, become an addict, and destroy his family in the last two years. :\

Just because you aren't a woman doesn't mean you don't get a say in the abortion debate. I absolutely believe that the holocaust was one of the worst tragedies humanity has ever seen, does my belief about the holocaust become invalid because I am not Jewish? No, because humans have the innate ability to tell right from wrong regardless of who we are. Abortion is wrong, and people telling you that you don't get a voice because you are a man is sexist and wrong.

I love your Risk content but can definitely do without your philosophy. Your views are childish, similar to what I had when I was like 17 years old. And that is fine, you live in one of the most privileged countries in the world, shielded from the evil outside your doorstep. It makes sense that your world view would be superficial and sound like something that comes straight out of a textbook, while complaining the world is mind controlling people. I think, before someone is allowed to study philosophy, they should be forced to live out in the world and experience different places and cultures for several years.
