Welsh Guards, Irish Guards, Scots Guards, Grenadier Guards. I believe that the bear skins used to be worn by Napoleon's Imperial Guard. Did we "borrow" that part of the uniform as a snub or in respect of our former enemy?

Cool. I had to come to the comments to understand, because I am also a tourist. Had no idea what happened. But I get it. She was standing for a picture.. whatever else was happening.. she stepped aside for and then this happened? And they got a little extra. London is so unique. I'd have no idea how to act over there. I often wonder how do they feel about tourists? Do they get annoyed at people? Because we don't know how to conduct ourselves. What is with knee back mallarkie. It is knee parallel with the ground and drive in forwards. Again basics lost in time SAD. I am an old soldier. Their is a standard for drill. Again lost in time. And I report for all. Guards of a time when drill was correct. NoW . Bag them

'Thigh parallel to the ground with the knee at an angle of 90° and drive the right foot to the ground to resume the position of attention'. That sloppy drill was done by REME, Pay Corps attached etc and had a silly nickname something-kicking. It will come back to me. Bad habit all those Taffs had with the Rupert the worst.

Many moons ago, I spent time in the Canadian Army as a reservist. Foot drill in the Canadian Army is pretty much the same as that for the British Army, with a few minor variations. The foot drill I see here isn't that bad. The pacing, the timings and the movements are correct. I've seen far, far worse. I've even seen videos of soldiers from the Household Cavalry performing the stand at ease and attention movements in an exaggerated way and it looks horrible compared to this. I think it all boils down to the training skills of the drill sergeants and the RSM/CSM, and what departures from standard the OC is willing to accept.

My trade in the Royal Canadian Navy (Boatswain) are the the ones that typically instructs drill. It hurts to see the officer’s drill is better than the NCO/NCM. Regardless, I still want to say, Bravo Zulu, for your service. 🇨🇦⚓️⚔️🦅

The changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace is seen by millions every year. People are in shock and awe when they witness this daily event. Personally after all the centuries that have passed you would think the guards would know how to change themselves!😂😂😂 (I know this is not the palace, I've been there several times)
