Cold Steel Tuff Lite Review - Perfectly named
The Cold Steel Tuff Lite 20LTG is a smaller utility knife. With it's Griv-Ex scales, the Cold Steel Tuff-Lite has a blade length of about
2.5 inches or 6.3 cm. Since the Cold Steel TuffLite is a small knife, it only weighs 2.58 ounces or 73.1 grams. The Cold Steel Tuff Light deploys fairly quick for a Tri-Ad back lock. The thumb hole also aids with deployment of the Cold Steel Tough Light blade which utilizes AUS-8 steel.
Thank you for watching my Cold Steel Tuff Lite knife review.

I have purchased 15 of these knives! I give them away as gifts, but always carry at least one in my pocket. Easy to sharpen, it cuts everything, and it’s a tank.

I often carry my Tuff Lite in my bag. It is a very handy and a great value. Still, one has to consider, how about using a box cutter for box cutting? The are many EDC sized box cutters available, ranging from very inexpensive to quite costly. My “carry box cutter” is a Milwaukee Fastback II. It is a fairly large folder, with a button lock, wire pocket clip, a slot for cutting straps safely, a foldout magnetic carrier for a spare blade, and it is red. I actually strop those throw away blade to extend their usefulness. This is a tool bag cutter for me, but I will carry it in my pocket when doing extended cutting on carpets or boxes. I don’t worry when it hits concrete under carpets or staples in boxes.

I'll have to check out that Milwaukee Fastback II, it sounds like something I might like. I've been using the Outdoor Edge Razor-Lite as my preferred box cutter, which doesn't have features like your Fastback II. That's a good idea stropping the blades instead of just throwing them away. Thanks for watching Scott.

My favorite knife in budget steel, as far as ones I currently own, is probably the Tangram Vector. Button lock with Acuto 440. Great little knife. If you throw D2 into the mix, my Rat2 in D2,or Rat 1 in D2, but that may change once my new purchase of the new Ganzo FH-11 in D2 arrives. Can't say until I get it in hand, but it looks pretty good..depends on how thin behind the edge and how it cuts. The Rat's are hard to beat for cutting performance in the budget price range.

Thanks J. This is, a good looking little chubby. I wouldn't carry it, but might like it hanging in the porch. As a dedicated box cutter. That AUS-8, really strops-up fast, and that short of blade. Would be quicker and easier, to wipe the tape residue off of. I love those two big finger coils too, right in the middle of that thing. My favorite budget steel knife right now. Is probably the Civivi Praxis. 👍🔪🍺😎

I hear ya Steve, I probably wouldn't edc this either, but should be pretty easy to maintain. I was thinking about picking up a Civivi myself, but they have 2 models coming out soon with VG-10 blades. I might just wait for those. Thanks for watching Steve.

Favorite knife with budget steel? Hmm, what's a budget steel? vg-10, d2, acuto? Or stuff like 4116, 420hc and 8cr13mov? The tangram santa fe in acuto or cold steel pro lite in 4116. The CIVIVI baklash in 9cr18mov is seeing a lot of pocket time too. And the kizer domin in vg-10.

Tip down is such a NON-issue! LOL I carry tip and tip down both. I couldn't care less what configuration the clip and knife are in. On a job, without even thinking, I pull the knife out, open the blade, use it and put it back. I never even give a second thought on how I opened it. It's like driving a manual transmission car. A non issue.

I lost mine! It's the only knife I've ever lost and it still drives me crazy. I've always found cold steels to be the easiest knives to take apart. Are you sure you have bronze washers in the tuff lite? Jake from Canadian cutting edge had no washers, mine had a single Teflon on one side.
@TheKnifeBeater
@TheKnifeBeater 5 жыл бұрын
Well look at it this way Mt Baldwin, at least you lost a $30 knife and not $130 one, but still frustrating all the same. My Tuff Lite had just the 1 teflon washer, so I thought it was a QC issue since all my other Cold Steel's have bronze and teflon. I didn't want to send it back for that, so I put the bronze washer in. How funny, I'm an idiot. Thanks for the heads up and for watching Mt Baldwin.

Rat 2. I am totally NOT a steel snob. The only knife on which the steel actually matters is my bushcraft knife. It had to be carbon steel so I could use it and a ferro rod to start a fire. I do like D2 but more than that is totally wasted on my for edc.

Great job on the review. However, a bit less begging for likes and subscriptions would be appreciated. it's popular for knife reviewers to complain about low or mid grade steel nowadays. However, I wonder how often this is actually an issue in real life use? As opposed to testing by purposely cutting through lots of dulling materials. Our forefathers had MUCH humbler steel in their Barlow's, etc. Then sharpened them on a bench grinder, hogging material and wrecking the temper. AUS-8A (not AUS-8) properly hardened is no slouch. I think Lynn Thompson knows what he's doing. (At least on this knife, hehehe) By the way, my favorite knife with budget steel is my Victorinox Explorer. AUS-8A is MUCH harder. Another example: look how well Buck does with properly hardened 420HC? It's LOADS better than badly executed 420 on some Chinese knives... I guess my point is to not get hung up too much on specs; go by real world experience. Carry it for awhile and let us know.
