That yearly reminder, no ice is safe ice. Especially early ice. If you really want to risk it for some dinks, make sure you got picks and rope. Look forward to seeing all your pictures of pickups going through this coming week!

The lake I have a cabin on in the iron range of mn as of today 11/30 was still wide open even though it's only a little over 300 acres in size. An even smaller nearby lake was still mostly open. Be careful.

I highly suggest when you have a flag make sure to place the tip up upwind of your hole and place the line you pull out to your left or right. Otherwise you may lose a big fish if it makes a serious run or several runs and the line gets tangled with the tip up and you can’t smoothly give the fish line. Line could break or the fish could rip the hook loose. I have caught some nice pike through the ice measuring up to 40 inches in central Minnesota. The big ones always make at least 1 or 2 good runs before you can land them. Had a friend that set the hook bare handed on an 18 pound pike and the line cut his finger pretty deep as the fish took off at the hook set. Always have a pair of ice picks on you, stay safe and have fun.

I envy you mister. I could tell she's pretty just by seeing her eyes. And she likes to go ice fishing! Definitely a prize catch. But no fish is worth the possibility of falling through and drowning in that icy water. Too many places where it might be too thin and suddenly BLOOP, it's goodbye beautiful woman. Safety gear is not guaranteed to save your life. Do her a favor. Wait awhile. She is worth more than any old fish.

#1,There’s no such thing as “SAFE ICE!! Considering the extended temperatures forecasters are predicting guys, why not give it a couple more weeks,eh? And if some of you just can’t wait, be sure you’re bringing along your safety items in case you do go through, eh? Things like a set of ice picks, a wearable PFC. And GODS sake, tell someone what part of the lake they can find you. From a Former Sheriffs deputy who had to recover a few unfortunate soles…

Souls, not soles. Two different words with two different meanings. Spelling is important, especially for a public servant.
