Dear Kate, thank you for another wonderful video. I was fascinated to see your treasure boxes. However, most importantly, you really helped me. My Grandson was having an absolute bluey, he’s coming up to two years old. He was inconsolable and no one knew what to do. So I said “ it’s ok I’ll take him to see Kate” my family thought I’d gone mad. So on you came and the screaming became sobs then the little post crying hiccups. He snuggled in and fell asleep. He slept and I continued to give nana cuddles , and watch the rest of your video. Thank you.

You are so blessed to have your good relationship with daughter-in-law Kate and special bonding with little one. My daughter-in-law keeps my grand daughter away from me and it has really affected my family. My youngest son, her husband is so torn by it all, and my other children and grandchildren are horrified by her behaviors. I am missing my little Addi growing up, and it us a sadness that is beyond explanation. Thank you for your lovely and joy- filled channel. Bless you all. The birds are delightful.

Hi Kate! I'm glad to see you are well! I have a huge scrap bin that I save all year. In the spring I stuff them in an ornamental bird cage, and put them out for the birds. When my kids were little they used to have so much fun walking around the neighbourhood spotting all the colorful bird nests with my scraps! TFS Hugs!

Oh the boxes were sold out before I even got to watch the video!!! But I did get 2 of the bird kits for a friend so she and her granddaughter can do them together. They live on opposite sides of the country so this will be fun to do for them over the internet. I did splurge on some of your beautiful cards for myself. What a fun place to "work". Haha, I got a kick out of you telling us that we could throw the fabric scraps away instead of you! You inspired me to think outside the box....or actually....what fun filling a box could be. Each month I make a Nanna box for my grandkids (8,5,yrs and baby)..as they live far away. I put in something to make , something to do ( this time it was floor chalk for hopscotch) , something to read and something to eat (sweeties) . I spoke to them earlier and they were busy with the play dough kit ,sweeties had long gone... grand daughter was busy popping the bubble wrap with great yelps of delight....They have Children's magazines yet to enjoy.... keeps them busy on wet days...

Could you maybe do a printable for the bird when they're sold out? The kit becomes a "tad" too expensive when the pound is converted to Canadian dollars and I would really love to make a bird to put on the Christmas tree this year. Quite enjoyed watching the treasure boxes come together. Such a fun idea!

Your treasure boxes made me think of Survival Kits that I made for my work mates one Christmas that contained, a penny for their thoughts, a whistle to get someones attention, a little light to guide them, a needle to make sure you can make a stitch in time, a marble in case they had lost theirs,... and other things. I found the idea on line like your treasure boxes which I think are amazing. To bad they were sold 3 years ago

I made some little birds(chickens) like that. I gave them long wooden legs. I painted, sanded, striped, distressed, waxed.......I filled up a whole Christmas tree with them. I made mine from felted wool and loved every single one of them. I was so thrilled when I saw you do birds also. Very precious baby !!!! 🐓🐦 You are so clever building the ribbon jig. 🤯

I used to do something similar with my bits and pieces. I put them in a bag with an envelope and a blank card, called them “Create-a-Card”, and sold them at the school craft fair for $1 each, which meant that kids could purchase something they could put together and use, and kids and the parents bought them by the handsfull!

My grandmother made lots of things from fabric scraps like your little bird kit, as ornaments for our Christmas tree. She made each grand child a set, we got a new one each year. Some were stuffed , some were yo-yos made into wreaths, all decorated with buttons, beads, sequins, and ribbons. Thanks for bringing up such fond memories.

Those birds are lovely! Would make a lovely gift to do with young girl, even up to age 12 or so. I gave a gift of a cupcake pillow to a co-workers friend to make and her daughter was over joyed with the project and colors! Yes, I keep the trimmings from various projects, (tch, I can't part with anything) when they have built up into a carrier-bag-full I weave them into bath/shower mats on a small hand loom I made myself. Ha!! as if I don't have enough to do!!!! Can't bear waste. Thanks for all the fun xxx.

I love all the bits and pieces. Now that I'm getting into mix media art I can imagine each piece as part of a project. You're very creative to use fabric scraps as stuffing. As a quilter I find it difficult to throw even bits of fabric away, this is an excellent use for them. I'm a huge recycler and I can see you are too. I love your dress and sweater combo. Did you make them? You look so organized and neat. That's been a struggle for me as an artist. Of course my space is smaller but I do love a place for everything and everything in its space.

I used to save all my trimmings and put them into old jelly or canning jars and labeled them as to quilt, date and who got the quilt. My husband put up a display shelf about 10 inches from the ceiling around my sewing room, where I displayed them. We moved 18 months ago and I knew I had no room for them, so they went into bags for dog bed makers, jars into recycle. I referred to them as my ‘quilt jelly’…..I miss those bits of memories but sometimes you have to let things go…… 20 years worth, hundreds of quilts…….. (sigh!). 🥲

Kate - I’m sitting here at home with my headset on (while my husband listens to music and reads) and so enjoying watching you prepare the treasure boxes, and only wish that I had seen this earlier to jump on your shop to get one!! I must sound a little crazy, sitting here in the quiet of my headset, as I know I occasionally chuckle or even laugh out loud as you share your process and especially with the difficulty of giving away your precious saved items - wow - I can relate to that! When my husband got a lap loom, I offered that he could look through my yarn stash, but quickly found myself saying, oh no, not that one, nor that one … ! Hello Kate! Like your Mum, I keep all my small bits & pieces in re-used plastic boxes. In my case they’re from take-aways. We only had a Chinese once a month, but hey‘ everyone mounted up over the years. I’m sure that anyone seeing them piled up would think that I never cooked a meal in my life! I’ve even passed some on to local charity shops for re-use. I can’t bear to throw anything away if it can be useful. I love your little treasure boxes! X
