In 1996 I had a 1990 80 sport as a taxi in Newcastle. Same lump as an 8v golf gti and it was a beautiful pearlescent blue and came with the gauges in the centre console and split rim alloys the same as a Quattro. So smooth and quick. I loved it.

@@TheLateBrakeShow unfortunately not as it was crashed into not long after I got it and I was gutted,so it was de-taxied, repaired and sold on and replaced by a cavalier Gsi 16v (glacier white, lovely) which was even quicker, especially after I tweaked it a bit with a few mods 😉. Wow. One of the best cars I ever owned . Owned a red C plate Audi 80 sport in 1991 I think. As a young lad it was a seriously fast, smooth drive. I remember the gear change was so slick and it had a beautiful factory smell inside. The 3 gauges made it even more sporty . I recall it's had brown tweed cloth seats? Not sure now ... Either way I loved it and it made its mark as I've owned way too many cars that didn't. When it was jet washed ....just magic to watch!!!

This was an interesting watch. I had 2 new Golf Turbo Diesels, one in 86 the 2nd in 87. In 88 when our 3rd child came along I decided I couldn’t afford to run a new car any more. The diesel Golf was so popular that the VW dealership bought it back off me for a good price. While I tried to find a decent used car they loaned me a red one of those 80s. It was a lovely thing to drive, but in the end I chose practicality & went for a Passat estate. I can still remember the smile that resulted from touring around in that Audi. 👍

This video reminded me of my Grandfather who bought a brand new, brown Audi Fox in 1978. This thing was like a spaceship to 11 year old me having grown up being carted around in 1970s American behemoths. The trunk (boot) of his car was full of spares and, most importantly, the Audi factory shop manual. 500 pages of glorious black and white exploded views of every single bit of the car. I would spend hours poring over this tome every time he and my Grandmother would visit from the City. A couple of years later, we picked up a '78 Ford Fiesta (my first car, after the '75 Impala I learned to drive in hung up its spurs), inspired, no doubt by Granpar's Audi. Thanks for this video!
