I was driving back from cape cod with my father two summers ago. At that point he was dying of pancreatic cancer. He is gone now. And every time I listen to this song I picture us in the truck. I held onto that drive. From Lismore and made a life in America for my sisters mom and I. He loves Finbar. He never got to see Ireland again. Man this hits me so hard. Love this song.

@@brigitnunez6735 Thank You! May god bless you. This song is very dear to me. Little story. My wife is from Honduras. I’m America and my parents are Irish. My father told me the verse that reminded me and my wife is …We'll leave behind the empty streets The gloom and desolation The rain the cold just growing old God knows it’s a hard old station. I traveled all over the world and my father being a rite Irish man never wanted to see me stuck in Southie AKA South Boston. Song means the world to me.

A good high school friend passed away recently, and during her service the organist played this tune. It took me a few moments to realize the tune, but when I did, I thought it was a very apt tune/song to play for my friend's funeral. It's been a rough few months with relatives and friends passing away. I have to go to the hospital tomorrow to say goodbye to another friend. It seems never ending, but I'm not sad for my friends and relatives who passed on; I'm sad because I will miss them being a source of comfort and happiness for me.

I put a ring on her finger 8 months later and married her when she was 16 53\years later I still worship the ground she walks on. Yes I loved her at 16 and love her more at 69. This song reminds me of the most beautiful girl I ever saw who I am lucky enough that she accepted my half baked proposal

Way back in the mists of time I arrived back home after three years attending a vocational education centre specialising in my chosen work related field. I opened the door of my parents home and instantly thought I was in the wrong place. A delicious smell filled the air of something meaty as well as vegetables and baking bread ...My mum can't cook soup from a can without supervision. I enter cautiously. My baby brother and 4 years old sister are sitting by the table or rather sister was and a stunningly beautiful girl was bent over strapping brother into high chair. She noticed me and startled yelps out in surprise. Sister looks at me and screamed my name launching herself at me. Oh I say I'm xxxxx . I'm xxx I'm babysitting for your mum she gone to the hospital to see your stepdad... She has gotten sister back in her chair are you hungry? My stomach instantly rumbled and she laughed. I sat down to the best meal I ever ate in my mother's house. A strong rich beef stew full of vegetables perfectly cooked with slices of fresh baked bread to stop up gravy I was in love by end of meal. I helped her put kids to bed and we chatted until mum's key in door sounded. She went and heated up meal for My mum and once she's eaten it and welcomed me home xxx said she was leaving to take bus home instantly my mother volunteered me to walk her to bus stop. I laughed and said I'll run her home I bought a car. I asked her out while taking her home. She was then 15 I was 19
