Actually, in the boarding scene in A New Hope, the Empire only suffer the loss of two stormtroopers when they push through the airlock, whereas the rebels suffer much higher casualties. A testament to the accuracy and efficiency of stormtroopers that was unfortunately not built on for nearly every engagement afterward.

real world boarding actions also did not result in nearly as many casualties as you see in movies as well. As a general rule civilians don't stand up very long when confronted by a howling mob of armed killers threatening them with grievous injury, thus real world pirates used this tactic to rapidly demoralize and take a prize with the minimal of actual danger This is sort of what happens in A New Hope, where as you point out the better training and morale of the Stormtroopers is what carries the day... the rebels break and run in fairly short order in the face of the relentless assault. The one in Skeleton Crew is.... yeah, far too exaggerated with the typical Disney reliance on scale to give the impression of stakes....

Rewatching the pirate boarding sequence, it's a good example of how the direct homage always seems to make less sense than the original. The Tantive officer protesting that they're a diplomatic vessel makes sense -- Vader's forces are ostensibly going to be in potential trouble with the Imperial Senate for their actions. This freighter captain protesting that the New Republic has guaranteed them protection is a bit nonsensical -- these are clearly pirates, not recognising New Republic jurisdiction.
@hyneksmid329310 күн бұрын
What others the captain should reffer to. I think they didnt had much choice
@matthewcollins477310 күн бұрын
@@hyneksmid3293My point is, the Tantive IV captain warns about a potential conflict -- this is a consular ship, attacking it might displease Imperial authorities, and Vader should (ostensibly) care about that, being himself an Imperial authority and theoretically answerable to the Senate. A conflict has potentially been instigated by his actions. In the pirate version, the pirates are already in conflict with the New Republic. Sure, it could work as the guy saying "you won't get away with this because I have New Republic protection" but the pirates are already at odds with the New Republic and wanted by them by virtue of being pirates. I'm not saying it's a terrible line, I just mean that it's another example of copying the original while sort of missing the point.

Andor is not Star Wars. It's generic political drama wearing the filthy maggot-riddled scalp of the long dead franchise. Skeleton Crew isn't Star Wars either. It's corporate blended 80s nostalgia slop for millennials and zoomers yearning for life in "better times".
@The_shady_puffer14 күн бұрын
@qZbGmYjS4QusYqv5 Andor is Star Wars as much as the empire strikes back is Star Wars. I know you or I or anyone for that matter cannot explain what does it mean for a story to be Star Wars. However I would say it's story has been designed with the world of Star Wars in mind. The most pronounced themes of Star Wars are also the most important in Andor. I personally have never seen ideas of rebelion and tyrany explored so well from both perspectives but I suppose you could call it generic if you want to. A franchise is dead as long as you think it is but I would suggest you have a more open mind about even the worst of franchises. Not every show can be a great, but a great show can come from anywhere.
@qZbGmYjS4QusYqv514 күн бұрын
@@The_shady_pufferAndor is Disney. Empire Strikes Back is not. It makes your argument invalid already. The show itself is competently made. But it's not Star Wars.
@The_shady_puffer14 күн бұрын
@qZbGmYjS4QusYqv5 So your claim is what makes Star Wars Star Wars today is it not being Disney? Does it change in time than and if lucas somehow bought it back would it become star wars or just because it was made by somebody who worked in disney it is not? As I already said it is made specifically with Star Wars's world in mind. It is the oppostite of being made to fool normies into beliving it star wars. It would have had jedi and sith and important member berries characters in it if it was made to achieve that goal. Also again a great show can come from any franchise
@The_shady_puffer14 күн бұрын
@qZbGmYjS4QusYqv5 Also I think you have overlooked what I wrote about the themes of the the show. To explore an example - Alien. When was rebellion and opression ever important in that franchise? Do you really think the story of Andor would have worked in the universe of Alien and what we know about it? Quite ironicly you try to look beyond the superficial and conclude it's generic. Somehow however you only look at the outermost layer of Andor and see a gritty sci-fi world with aliens and say "well it's basicly like alien"
@Gunleaver13 күн бұрын
The big problem with Star Wars in general is that they are so inconsistent, that you can't detect the oddities that there deliberately. When I saw Wim reading and playing his Jedi stuff, I just scoffed at how the creators never communicate or watch each other's shows, and so this is a version where the Jedi are back to being heroes because of Luke's role in the Rebellion, and never mind how little sense that makes. The way the creators talk about Amblin movies, you'd think there's like dozen of these movies, but basically it's ET and Goonies, that are about kids going on an adventure. Maybe, Empire of the Sun if you are a macabre sort of MF.

Just want to point out, that it shouldn't matter if the first ship isn't full of cash. The Salvage from the massive ship they just took should be hefty. Just dump the crew on any planet on the way to your destination...

Star Wars was never "for kids", it was just not "only for adults". Now they are making it expressly "for kids" cuz their prior ones were made "for adult children who wanted to propagndize to other people's kids". One way works, the other two do not. Very simple.
@silverscorpio2414 күн бұрын
I've always been afraid that we as media consumers would get to the point where stuff that's "meh" and mediocre and inoffensive are considered masterpieces just because they're not as bad as what we've gotten before. Will Lucasfilm's future projects be so bad that Skeleton Crew is touted as "good"? It already happened with Ghostbusters Afterlife. Will future adaptations of Lord of the Rings be so terrible that down the line we tell ourselves, "Yeah, Rings of Power was awful, but at least it's better than [insert title here]"? I hope not.

on the topic of pirates in space having vastly more options than pirates at sea: pirates at sea couldnt just blast the enemy boat to pieces while killing the crew because the ship and all the valuables would sink into the ocean where theyd be lost so they had to risk boarding the ship to take control so theyd make money. in space through the worst thing would be having to chase after treasure floating away. they COULD destroy the ship, making it so the only risk to their crew was the regular space threats like leaking space suit instead of throwing their bodies into bullets. but once again the writers for star wars are too stupid to comprehend anything that hasnt directly happened to them. a lot like when they changed bombers from effective y-wings to those abominations that used magnets to slowly and ineffectively deliver bombs so they could get a shot that looked like a world war 2 film in space, making it stupid instead of heroic

Here is a major thing I don't understand. If the home planet is so ridiculously advanced technologically that it can cloak/shield an entire planet, why do the people still have to work as what seems to be presented as basically the Star Wars equivalent of office cubicle jobs?
@TheLittlePlatoon13 күн бұрын
@@BertoxolusThePuzzled That’ll probably be part of the twist. Either none of their jobs actually matter (which will be very hard to pull off), or whatever their Great Work is requires it. I’ve heard it suggested they might all be the descendants of pirates, for example, in which case the tedious jobs could be used to try and domesticate them, but they’ve all forgotten precisely why this should be so.
@BertoxolusThePuzzled13 күн бұрын
@TheLittlePlatoon It would be fun if the twist was something like that they had been performing some critical function for the Galaxy that everyone had assumed was fully automated/done by droids this entire time, charting and broadcasting all the hyper lane changes in real time for example. I doubt these writers are creative enough to pull something like that off but it's a fun idea at least, lol.
