"The" play really sums up Tony Romo's entire Cowboy career. He always had to put the team on his back and make a play late in the 4th qtr. The defense gave up so many 4th qtr leads during his time as QB, that he knew (and I knew and anyone else who knew anything about football) that he had to score late and often he didn't have the luxury of just a FG. They would need a TD and if there was more than a minute left, he might need another one.That put them in the position that required him to make a play. Just like in that game. Force a ball into coverage, not just throw it away. OR you have a call go against you. That is part of the game and if he had more defensive support, he wouldn't have been in that situation. He had to roll the dice to have a chance to win. When I said it summed up his career, it is because you can't trust the game to one play late so many times in the NFL and expect to do it every time. No one does. I'm not looking it up, but I think Romo might be one of the top QBs in 4th qtr comebacks (maybe the best during his time playing) and think about how many they lost and made people who didn't know any better to think he choked.

@redmustangredmustang6 ай бұрын
That was the closest Romo would EVER get to moving past the divisional round. Next year the Cowboys started out strong at 2-0 and then Romo broke his collarbone TWICE and the Cowboys went down the toilet with a 4-12 season. Then Romo got hurt AGAIN in preseason the next season against the Seahawks where Dak took over and Romo only got to see one possession in the last gameand that was it for his career. 2014 was the last hurrah for Romo. It's so sad that the Cowboys had their chance against the Packers even before the Dez catch. Demarco Murray who was so great during the season had that strip fumble by Julius Peppers. If you look at the footage, if Demarco gets past Peppers, that's a touchdown because there is no one in the secondary. Sadly the defense couldn't get any pressure on Rodgers who had all day to throw. That's where the Packers OWNED Dallas from here on out including the 2023 wildcard playoffs.

The worst part of the game against the Packers was the Murray fumble. A little earlier in that half Murray broke through on the right side and was gone, to the house. Problem is that Peppers reached out and stripped the ball and Green Bay recovered. He's got the whole right side of the field open for about 45 yards and he would have scored... If he only put the ball away which he didn't do. Another thing you have to remember is that if the Dez play is ruled a catch, you have Aaron Rodgers with about 5 minutes to go. Hate to say it but I'm not sure they keep him from scoring.

Excellent video. 👍 The Logical Cowboy definitely made the case for Romo being the real 2014 league MVP. If MVP voters were clairvoyant they’d have seen how badly the Cowboys missed Romo the very next season going 4-12 in 2015 . Romo only played in 4 games in 2015 due to injuries & he won 3 of them. The Cowboys were pretty much hopeless when they didn’t have Romo the same way the 2011 Colts were 2-14 without Peyton Manning. Now that The Logical Cowboy pointed it out, the 2014 Cowboys remind me of the 1966 Cowboys. Both had tragic figures like Dandy Don Meredith in 1966 & Romo in 2014. Both teams ended their post season with a loss in Green Bay. Imagine Dandy Don being booed in a restaurant after the way the title ended with an INT. That’s brutal & Meredith took it very hard.

Sad end to a season and I tell ya, I'm not one of these Cowboy fans that constantly bash Jerry as he has allowed me to celebrate 3 wonderful Super Bowl wins and one of, if not THE, best dynasty of all time, however, he truly cost Romo, Witten, Ware (got one later with Denver), Dez and others Super Bowl wins by keeping Jason Garrett FAR TOO LONG. He should have left Wade Phillips in there as he only struggled one season due to massive injuries and a slow start. That being said, Romo was truly one of the best QB's of his era and many greats played during his era. Romo was so vastly underrated and it started this "Cowboys can't win the big one" and I feel that does put a lot of extra pressure on every Cowboy team since! The loss to GB we all know was total BS and I felt the team had so much momentum and believed they would win and to be robbed...we never really recovered after that one. Here's my issue with Dez's catch. There was still 4:06 left to play in the game. Dallas' defense needed to bow their backs and make a stop regardless of how that play was called, but they didn't. When Romo was playing, fans dogged him out for not winning in the playoffs. It didn't matter what he did, they were upset because he couldn't go all the way. Now that he's retired, people have a different view of him. Trust me, they do the same thing with Dak Prescott; they dog him out and one day they'll look back and see he actually played well. And Romo was 2-4 in the playoffs and Dak is 2-5 (though he played less years). Many football fans don't appreciate the heart, grit, and talent of some of these QBs because they don't make it all the way; they always want to replace the ones they hate with the next guy until they hate on the next guy and want someone else to take his place. Guess what, there are going to eventually be 31 losing QBs each year; it's not easy getting to the big show.
@thelogicalcowboy6 ай бұрын
I agree. Dak is treated horribly by the fan base. I understand why though. I do. A lot of the older fans are used to a higher standard than what the Cowboys have given in recent years. They lived through the golden age and it's hard for them to take losing so loose. A lot of the younger fans love Dak because their standards are low. Don't take that the wrong way. But it's true. To me, Dak is a top 5 quarterback and has been that for a few years now. The guy is highly underrated. But he along with Romo didn't get the job done. Romo wasn't given a great supporting cast, particularly on defense and Dak didn't have a coach for his first 4 seasons. His offensive coordinator and quarterback coach was his backup quarterback. So to blame both quarterbacks is not fair. But as it pains me to say this they did/do have their share of blame. But back to my original point, the older fans' reasons for not liking Dak or Romo are merited. I understand why.

I'm not saying this just because I'M A LIFELONG COWBOYS FAN (since 1974), and I don't care anything about "AWARDS" - and that includes the HALL OF FAME, BUT: Romo should've been the LEAGUE MVP in 2014. PERIOD. What Aaron "PRIMADONNA" Rodgers done that year and WON LEAGUE MVP he had basically been doing his whole career, BUT: WHAT ROMO DID, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, saw that coming. The Cowboys were coming off of three straight 8 - 8 seasons and Romo was getting blamed for them. He deserved "SOME" OF THE BLAME, but not "ALL" OF THE BLAME. Then the 2014 season happened. Incidentally, the 2014 season, along with the 2016 season (Dak and Zeke's first season) are the "ONLY" two seasons I thought Dallas had a "LEGITIMATE SHOT" at the Super Bowl - since the 1995 - 1996 season. And that's the truth. Two of my brothers, who are also Cowboys fans, like to throw in the 2007 Cowboys. We can have a "CONVERSATION" about the 2007 Cowboys team, but to many, I saw a few too many "FLAWS." The 2014 and 2016 teams had "FLAWS", too that the Jones' didn't correct. The 2014 and 2016 teams had NO PASS-RUSH and couldn't generate enough turnovers. NO PASS-RUSH and NO TURNOVERS = NO SUPER BOWL. PERIOD. Dallas' defense should've been ALL OVER "PRIMADONNA" Rodgers, especially in 2014 since he a bad calf and couldn't "MOVE AROUND" like he normally does. And even though "DEZ CAUGHT IT" - if he didn't, how come the NFL "CHANGED THE RULE" of what is considered "A CATCH" after this happened? But I still believe IT WAS THE DEFENSE - or lack thereof - especially against "PRIMADONNA", WHY the Cowboys LOST THE GAME. It was similar in 2016, too.

This was one of your best posts brother! And that's saying something! I completely agree! I think what hurts besides the horrible catch call was how much that Defense failed to show up against a crippled Aaron Rodgers in frozen temperatures after we had them 21-13. Murray's fumble also hurt, that would have been a TD had he not fumbled. Again great post.
@dcoopthemann6 ай бұрын
@thelogicalcowboy Thank you. Yeah, that Murray fumble was another one. Murray would've or should've been in the running for LEAGUE MVP, too in 2014. But his "GAME" always seemed to be "OFF" to me. He'd break off a big run, etc, then seemingly trip over himself and fall and get tackled "WITHOUT" a defender initially tackling him. And he always seemed to fumble at the worst possible time, like in the this game. Plus, he was too injury prone for my taste. NEXT UP: Rod Marinelli. Marinelli has always come with what I call, a little too much "RESPECT." TOO many Head Coaches, GM's, and Owners listen to him way, way too much. One of the first things I said after this game was, I would've FIRED Marinelli - ON THE SPOT. You have an "INJURED" Rogers - who "CAN'T MOVE" normally - and you don't "SEND THE DOGS AFTER HIM - ALL GAME?" SMFH. Similar scenario in 2016 with Dak and Zeke. REMEMBER: The Cowboys were down in that game to "PRIMADONNA" Rodgers. Marinelli - DEFINITELY TO MY SURPRISE - "TURNED UP THE HEAT" on Rodgers. The Cowboys got "BACK INTO THE GAME." THEN: On that big pass on the sideline, to the TE, Marinelli - who, to MY SURPRISE "TURNED UP THE HEAT" on "PRIMADONNA" Rodgers. Then on that sideline catch by the TE, Marinelli INEXPLICABLY "CALLED THE DOGS OFF" on Rodgers, which "ALLOWED" Rodgers to "make" the pass. WHY? S.M.F.H. Again, I would've FIRED Marinelli - ON THE SPOT.

Dak Prescott > Tony Romo Not sure why so many Cowboys fans can't come to grip with this.. Dude had T.O., Jason Witten, Miles Austin, Demarco Murray, the great wall of Dallas 2.0 , all in their primes, and an All time great coach and couldn't do shit.. Dak has surpassed him in every possible way, and there's absolutely no argument that can be made otherwise.. I challenge anyone to say otherwise 🤷🏻♂️
@thelogicalcowboy6 ай бұрын
I like Dak. I have a video on him as well. To me, he's a top 5 quarterback in the NFL. But you said some things that aren't correct. T.O. was just outside of his prime with Dallas. He came to Dallas in his 12th season. He only had two great seasons with Dallas. A lot of that was because of Romo. When he left Dallas his career went downhill and he retired. I love Austin but he only had one elite year. He had horrible hamstring issues. Murray only had one elite season with Dallas. The Great Wall wasn't with Romo in their elite seasons. They were together with Dak in their elite years. Romo played with a top 5 running back once in his career in 2014. Dak did it 3 times. Romo only had a top-10 defense once in his career. Dak had it 5 times. Romo only played with 2 first-team all-pro linemen in his career in a single season. Dak played with 3 linemen who made an all-pro in a single season. Again Please don't misunderstand me. I like Dak and think he's highly underrated. But Romo was special. Thanks for watching bro!

It seems to be a controversial take, but I rank Romo as the best QB in Cowboys history It’s an absolute travesty that he had to play for the Jones led Cowboys all those years…worst failure in JJ’s GM history that he never built a team to get this man a series of rings People deride him for the mediocrity through the early 2010s, but I say he was worth 3-4 wins each of those 8-8 seasons, just on his own…those teams weren’t good and they had a play-in game several years

The problem with fans like you is that you're selective. Warren Moon, Mike Vick, Randall Cunningham, neither one made it passed the divisional round but you don't hold them accountable. I'm pretty sure you think Moon and Vick are icons. Had Romo made it past the divisional game you would have raised the bar and said.. He nEver mAde it paSt tHe *nfc chamPionShip gAme* . What matters is Super Bowls not just making it past the divisional game. Lol There's a host of Hall of Fame QBs who never held up the Lombardi trophy.

@thelogicalcowboy neither Moon nor Vick are icons, in my opinion. I am very selective who I label as an icon. Elway, Montana, Kelly, Aikman, Farve, Brady, Manning Brothers, Mahomes, Bradshaw, Staubach, Marino are iconic Qbs either winning multiple super bowls or competing in multiple super bowls.

@thelogicalcowboy Romo was a phenomenal overachiever, extremely talented, however, came up short when it mattered most. Romo wasn't gifted the genetics to withstand the physicality of the game, and it ultimately caught up with him in his later years. Romo was extremely entertaining and provided hope for us Cowboys fans, but the heartbreak gets old. Dak is traveling on the same path as Romo. It's sad.
