Elephant racing. Basically it’s impossible for one HGV to guarantee to be able to complete an overtake as they are both limited to the same speed. This need fixing. Options: 1. Restrict HGVs to lane 1 2. Remove electronic limiters, limit speed to 60 enforceable in the same way as other traffic 3. Introduce F1 style DRS. That was a joke (I think).

Bus drivers taught to straddle when appropriate, its a defensive driver technique to reduce the risk of an incident as cars will try to overtake or undertake when lanes narrow down to one. Same with some roundabouts and tight turns. Annoying for some but it is done with safety in mind, if no car can squeeze through and end up on a buses blindside then this is safer. Most drivers who are switched on stay back, but some do not, hence the straddle. I am coach driver and was always closing gaps, not to annoy but to prevent cars from getting in a position where my rear end could swing out and clip them. The front of a long vehicle will take a turn wide but the end will be more or less at the kerbside at end of turn.

[18:46] As a bus driver I can tell you that buses straddle lanes when there's little room for them to turn in a single lane. They have to stop other traffic from occupying space to the left or right or both because (as you should well know) people will try and drive into the most ridiculous gaps and when the bus hits them they will blame the driver who was clearly trying to clear a safe space around his vehicle. This technique is also used if two lanes are going to merge into one for the same reason. If you give people a chance they WILL push into the space and cause an accident or make someone slam on their brakes.

What I do know about Beddington Park is that the liner of hole 1 on the putting green stands proud of the ground, making it a really tricky putt. Well, it did in the early '70's when my grandfather would take us there :) No problem with the vehicle passing the bus. White lorry, middle lane at fault. Road restricted to one lane for the 6+ miles he would take to pass or abandon his attempt. Infuriates me every time I see it.

The white lorry in the middle lane was not holding anyone up. Lane 3 was relatively quiet, plenty off space, I personally don't think i would off even noticed. Just overtake him and that's it 😅
@johncranna9427Ай бұрын
And as someone rightly pointed out the Highway Code, rule 168 says "if a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass." so the lorry being overtaken could easily have just dropped 1 or 2 mph and let the overtaking lorry (which was overtaking it, although slowly) do the overtake in half the time and it would NOT have lost any momentum going up the hill. But I do think it was a bad decision in the first place to attempt the overtake as the differentia in speed is so slight and an extra 2 or 3 mph in 55-60 mph is going to make very little difference in your journey time.

you were right first time about Bluewater - M2 doesn't start until Three Crutches, 7 miles down the road to be fair, other than having green signs instead of blue ones, that part of A2 is indistinguishable from M2 it's a very old motorway; there used be a weird situation where motorway regulations started and the road would narrow from three lanes to two some of the junctions were pretty dodgy by today's standards too, with tiny two-way sliproads that had 90 degree bends where they met the main line (the last one, junction 6, still is like that!)
@johncranna9427Ай бұрын
The bus at 18:14 and beyond did the correct thing to 'occupy' the two lanes as they are narrow and can only just take a car's width so there is no way that a bus and car could safely be side by side at the lights. The private hire driver saw that there was a gap ahead of the bus that they could get into and so overtook the bus. Driving by both the bus and the private hire driver ok in my opinion.

HGV's are governed to 58mph I believe so if 2 lorries are side by side they're both at the same speed depending on the load. A HGV carrying plastic bottles will be quicker than one that's fully laden so will be able to overtake eventually but it takes miles of motorway sometimes for them to get even a few yards ahead. This holds up traffic as cars behind either have to wait or move into the outside lane. I normally wait cos I'm never in a hurry to get anywhere...
@PS-fl7etАй бұрын
The limiter is more based upon the ECU and engine / gearbox sensors than load. Unrestricted any HGV will be able to go faster and all limits are software based. There are times when one more laden wagon will slow going uphill and then pick up pace again going flat or downhill. There are of course those that will dip the clitch going downhill to travel faster than the limiter

I was waiting to cross a residential road at a junction with a main road, first I checked that no one was turning out and then checked both directions to ensure no one was turning in. Nobody was coming out, and I didn’t see any indications of anyone turning in so obviously I thought ‘the road’s clear, I can cross’. I get 3 steps out, and a Mercedes suddenly indicates right on top of me to come in, forcing me to step back. Did they slow down for me to finish crossing (there was nothing behind them)? Nope! I couldn’t see the driver because the sun was too glary unfortunately but the pavement was wide with no obstructions so if they were paying attention, they’d have seen me from a fair distance and been able to indicate left early enough to tell me they were turning where I was crossing.

I completely agree with you over the Bluewater BMW. Driver did nothing wrong. For some reason LDC has a thing about vehicles going over hatched areas. I’ll be honest, the Audi was mildly inconsiderate but not dangerous, didn’t break any rules and didn’t really slow anyone down. It was probably more concerned about seeing behind then getting out in time before the gap closed as visibility behind was poor due to the Merc on the double yellows and the outside bend. After emerging he stayed on his side of the white line and left you as much space on your side. Was this really worth making a fuss about and was the real crime driving an Audi? The one I would criticise is the Merc.
@suziforesterАй бұрын
@@Tailspin80 The Audi pulling out made LDC alter course, and the other cars to alter their speed...that's careless. He should have waited. Agree with the idiot parking the Mercedes there.
@Tailspin80Ай бұрын
@@suziforester Watch it closely at half speed and LDC’s protests don’t make much sense. The road is not particularly narrow and there is exactly the same amount of space on both sides of the centre line. If the Audi can emerge without crossing the centre line then why is LDC having a problem? He should however have been paying more attention and slowing down for the pedestrian emerging from parked cars on the left, always a hazard particularly children in lines of parked cars. As I said, the Audi had problems due to the Merc boxing him in illegally and the outside bend. LDC needs to stop always being so “in the right” even in situations he has contributed to and try and appreciate other road users’ problems.

Anne Boleyn was Catherine of Aragon's Lady in Waiting, Henry started to build non such in 1538 after Jane Seymour's death. She was previously Anne Boleyn's Lady in Waiting, he was a dirty old devil!
@Holycurative9610Ай бұрын
Henry the 8th was involved with Anne Boleyn's sister first, and some say the mother as well but that's more gossip than fact, and they met at court when Anne was young. She was sent off to France and then returned when that didn't work out so well, she met Henry at court again (now older) and he bombarded her with love letters until she started an affair with him. She was engaged to some Earls son(?), despite the fact they were both in marriage arrangements already, but I forget his name, and Henry (or Anne's father) broke that engagement off. People think that Anne's father deliberately put Anne in Henry's eyeline because Henry was renowned for giving titles and land to his mistresses which the father would have managed and got the income from. The father did get land and titles from Henry but I can't remember what he got. All I know is that it was a really long time ago and Elizabeth the first was Anne Boleyn's daughter even though she had only been queen for 3 years or so when she was executed for having an affair (the irony eh!) and incest. There were 2 or 3 other men executed with her I think but I don't recall anything about Henry and Anne meeting in the park Tony mentioned. School was a long time ago though and my memory ain't what it was🤣🤣

Henry VIII used to meet Jane Seymour in Beddington park, and Anne Boleyn's name may have been attributed by chinese whispers. At least on a 3 lane road, the rolling roadblock these truckers driving on the limiter cause, allows a chance of overtaking. I used to go from Surrey to Lincoln a lot in the past, and on the two lane sections of the A1 you could be stuck behind these fuckers, sorry, truckers for absolutely miles.

Not sure what that bus driver was trying to do at 18:14. At first it looked like leaving cyclist filtering space on the left but seemed excessive for that. The driver wasn’t far enough over to leave space for people turning left onto the junction and didn’t seem to care the private hire went passed Perhaps they were just setting themselves up for when you all move to discourage others othertaking once moving? How many times do we see problems when two try to pass a larger vehicle at a merge point? Just my thoughts and an odd one

I think you’ll find that Henry Vlll Anne Boleyn when she returned from the Court of the French King in 1522 a young woman who had acquired lFrench Ways” so was viewed as exotic compared to other ladies of the Court. She was introduced into the English Court by her father Sir Thomas Boleyn’s association with the Monarchy and became a Maid of Honour to Queen Katherine of Aragon, Henry’s Spanish wife and the widow of his elder brother Arthur. Henry was bonking Anne’s sister Mary and Anne met Henry in the period between 1522 and by 1525 was writing love letters to her.
