This planet made me so scared, because I have such a huge fear of tornadoes!! it was really satisfying & kind of therapeutic when I realized that (for the most part) they weren't going to instantly kill me and I actually could use them to my advantage/I needed them to discover certain things.

Yes. Tornadoes are uniquely scary. I remember as a kid I had to hide in the basement from one once and I was terrified. BUT, they are so fun in OW . They just make you a bit dizzy and let you go on a little space walk lol. I love Giants Deep. I wish oceanworld was like this!

I went and watched part of PointCrow's second stream of this game after exploring every island on Giant's Deep. His ship was broken so he tried to kill himself by swimming into a tornado, but he fell back down... and ended up past the current. I closed the vod after that happened to make sure I didn't get spoiled further but I assumed the solution was to use a tornado to build enough momentum to fly past the current. Turns out he just happened to fall into a counter clockwise tornado. 🤣

Pretty sure that the "head" of a jelly fish is actually it's stomach They just take days potentially weeks to digest there food And the only reason they can take that long is that they really don't use much energy they're kind of like an automated animal They float with the currents and only move when they need to

The pincushion projection also shows a probe that discovers the eye. Another cool thing is the first projection shows the current probe's real time location! Like if you look at the probe it moves! And not surprising that as it reaches the end of the projection line, the loop comes to an end with the sun going supernova.

Small nitpick: Giant’s Deep is not a gas giant. It is a large ocean planet with a thick atmosphere. Gas giants tend to be made of hydrogen, helium, and similar gasses.
@TheLoreExplorer
@TheLoreExplorer 3 жыл бұрын
Giants deep is intended to be the devs take of a gas giant. Early concepts had the islands floating in the atmosphere due to how dense it was. They changed it up a bit, but its still their take on a gas giant. Keep in mind the outer wilds universe has different rules than ours.

I see a lot of you talking about being terrified at first then feeling peaceful. I’m still waiting for that breakthrough 😩. I’ve been playing for a couple weeks (since its’ release on PS now) and really all the planets scare me but the scariest in my opinion are giants deep, dark bramble and brittle hollow with that damn black hole. I love this game but it terrifies me and once I face my fears and make progress the supernova happens and I gotta start all over. Kinda wish the game had an assist where once you arrive at a planet, it highlights the places you’ve already visited to allow you to autopilot directly to that particular sight. What makes me uneasy about GD is there are very few places to gain footing. And being so close to gigantic tornadoes towering over you is intimidating. Also the imagery of some seemingly unpenetrable core beneath you gives me chills....much like how the deep sea is amazing but terrifying due to the unknown. I imagine being deeeep under sea in a small submarine thing looking thru a bottom camera and there’s no floor in sight 😨. Even if I was at the floor, thinking of all that’s above me lurking in darkness is enough to paralyze me in fear. I hope to one day get over my fear of the unknown, and Outer Wilds is helping to some extent.

I'm kinda split between Brittle Hollow and Giant's Deep for my favorite planet. Brittle Hollow's mechanic of slowly being broken apart by a volcanic moon is really cool and unique. I love how the black hole is scary at first until you realize it just teleports you to the White Hole Station and essentially started the Ash Twin Project. Also the underside of the planet before any piece falls off looks so beautiful if you get to see it. Giant's Deep was the first planet I explored aside from the Attlerock and it just has so many highlights. The image of the massive ocean and the tornadoes already makes an excellent first impression. I could've sworn I had seen an island fly above the clouds on one of my trips, and finding out first hand how it happened was quite scary. Discovering the Tower of Quantum Trials was unexpected, and I liked how they used it to teach you Quantum Imaging. One of my favorite visuals in the whole game comes from looking through the glass of the Control Module on the Probe Cannon and seeing the massive planet you're currently orbiting. I went back for that exact reason one day and it led to an excellent ah ha moment of realizing I could enter the Launch Module through the crack in the glass. The planet core is one of if not the best example of fear of the unknown in the game. Being in the water and seeing this massive electrical sphere you know nothing about with only an ultra strong current between you and it is terrifying, and the lengthy process of learning how to get down there and pulling it off is hella satisfying. I love how you're constantly surrounded by the electric field while exploring, reminding you of what you just overcame. It's the perfect place to finally find the Eye of the Universe's coordinates.

Even in the early 2013 demo, Giant's Deep practically bottomless ocean completely terrified me, and I avoided going there as much as possible (despite how pretty it is). Did you find the one bit of secret dialogue in the Statue Island? There's a bit of raised ground in the bottom section with a Nomai whiteboard on it--it's too high to reach by jetpack, so you have to wait for the island to get picked up by a tornado and fly to it in 0G.
@TheLoreExplorer
@TheLoreExplorer Жыл бұрын
Yeah....is that not in the video? Thats one of my favorite bits of dialogue in the whole game. The one Nomai basically says "wait. if our memories are being sent back.....but not our bodies.....what happens to our body? Does our body die and only our memories get sent back?". And the others essentially go "Who cares. Same outcome either way!". Like , uhhhh , no. Huge difference lol. That made me realize it was a game about reality and perspective.
@emilyleppik2787
@emilyleppik2787 Жыл бұрын
@@TheLoreExplorer I didn't see it in the video, yeah that's the one. It was honestly the first "outer-wilds-y" puzzle that I came across. (By which I mean, you have to use the way that the world changes during the loop in order to solve it.) And for what it's worth, my personal answer is: The final time loop is the only one that actually happened. Your memories of the others are only in the Ash Twin Project due to the bootstrap paradox, meaning basically you just wake up one day with a bunch of memories of things that never happened.
@TheLoreExplorer
@TheLoreExplorer Жыл бұрын
Ah. Shame I missed it. But I like how the game lets people come to their own interpretations. Its just like rl. There is a few reasons Im not behind the bootstrap paradox. I like the many worlds/infinite parallel universe interpretation. I think it can avoid all paradox's , which is probably best. If we consider things the quantum nature of things. And how from the changing observers perspective(like how we observe the memories and change perspectives. Or how self gets made) everything we see is relative to the observer in game. It just makes me think more is going on than what WE see. Then this makes some sense of the shifting in time cause it can all still line up relatively to the final observer. At the end , yes. The last loop is the only one that even happened. The only universe that ever happened. We got our memories from possible futures. But this way they all still sort of existed and every single one was actually meaningful. I know its sort of wibbly wobbly timey wimey quantum nonsense. But I just think its kind of poetic ig.

QUESTION: If the satellite just happened to JUST find the Eye right when we were walking by the statue in the museum, and they've been shooting probes for 200,000 years. how many probes were shot? and how long does it fly before finding the Eye. Technically doesn't it only have 22 minutes now. I guess a probe that was shot years ago could have JUST found the Eye. And WHY does the orbital building break right now? if it's been working fine for 200,000 years. WHY did it just break now?
@TheLoreExplorer
@TheLoreExplorer 2 жыл бұрын
I think you should go through my outer wilds explained series. It seems you may not understand the mechanics at play. But Ill answer as many questions as I can here. The cannon breaks because thats technically the first time the cannon ever fires in this timeline. The nomai who used to control the cannon set the power too high. And so when it fires it breaks. You can find them talking about it in the logs inside the cannon. The atp gets activated. The cannon fires and breaks. The probe searches for the eye. The atp records that information. And when the loop ends the atp sends it back in time to before the cannon fires(and breaks). And so the cannon receives the information while whole. Then the cycle repeats. So every time you see it fire is the first time its ever fired. I know its confusing. And no. The loop shouldnt start in front of the statue. The atps timeloop has been active for a long time. Over 9 million loops. We only become aware of it at around 9 million loops because we finally are able to sync with a statue. The probe finds the eye and so activates the statues allowing us to sync with them. But there is no reason the start of the timeloop should change just because someone finally synced with a statue. The timeloop started because the sun blew up naturally. Us syncing with a statue doesnt change that time. And lore wise the tracking module breaks off as you watch it explode. You can actually see it in one of the depictions of the opc firing in the probe tracking module. The planets are set not to collide with each other. The interloper isnt a planet though. So the interloper would likely destroy the crust of brittle. But no other planet colliding with it would damage it at all. Also logically if brittle hollow wasnt being bombarded. Then yes. The crust would stay whole. It isnt a scripted thing in which they break at certain times. They actually take damage as they get bombarded. So if it werent being bombarded it wouldnt break.
@GrandNoble

@@TheLoreExplorer ah, so the cannon never fired until the very first time the ATP gets activated - which is when the sun dies. got it. I thought it was firing for 200,000 years. So non lore wise, is the OTP broken part always in Giants Deep? Like static, or does it physically break off. Yeah I realized collision was off after I watched a later video of yours lol (it's a lot to go through), i'm finally up the the ECHOES videos. Recently subscribed as well. Great content. 5 stars. And thanks for answering some of my novice questions. I've 100% the base game years ago on xbox. back when there was just NOTHING really online about the game or lore. So it's SO amazing to come back thanks to the ECHOES (playing through now) and you have all this amazing content. So worth it.

I was here a year ago. Ive been making Outer Wilds content since 2019! Im glad you found me though. And that you appreciate the content! But youre welcome! Thats what Im here for. To help people understand the game! Mechanics wise the tracking module is always in giants deeps core. So, yes. Its static.

So are the jellyfish originally from dark bramble?
@TheLoreExplorer
@TheLoreExplorer Жыл бұрын
They are actually confirmed not to have come from the dark bramble we know. The devs said they either came from another dark bramble plant and got there through inter dimensional travel via portals. or ash twin. Which once had an ocean :D

I hate Giants Deep ! if i had to choose between being lost in space or drown in dark waters i would choose space even Brittle Hollow is less scary ! GD is such a moody planet bottom of line : HATE IT ! iI was even scared of the water on The Stranger ! I eat leviathans for breakfast in Subnautica but Giants Deep HEEL NO

First time getting close to giants deep, I lost control of the spacecraft as it gets near the planet. I was like omg! I am gonna get crushed by the cloud due to heavy pressure! *like Jupiter* I thought I ended up dying but instead, I was greeted with hurricanes and the ocean. It totally blew my mind at that moment. I cherish that memory.
