You can see in the chat that the stream cut out, which Aiden acknowledges in the chat. I'm not sure where Isaiah Young gets the explanation about the editor, since the stream obviously cut out.

@KOAHUNT3R Жыл бұрын
I think Aiden hit the nail on the head when it comes to religion and evolution. It's also interesting to me that I feel Chapter 1 of Genesis lines up fairly well with science. God creates light, the big bang; sometime later the Earth forms and the water and atmosphere separate; life starts in the oceans; eventually life crawls onto land; and eventually humans exist, which God probably felt would be the species to receive our souls while we exist on this mortal plain. I know it's not 1:1, but eh. I also think Wendigoon hit the topic of free will on the head as well. Without free will, then we have no purpose to be here. It's our decisions that help us choose to return to Heavenly Father, and it's the influence of the adversary who tempts us away. My wife has been struggling with an event that has happened in her life that has led to her no longer in believing in God or Christ. I understand why she's come to that decision, but it breaks my heart to see her let hatred bring her to such a conclusion and it breaks my heart seeing her in the pain she's in.

On the statue of nebuchadnezzar's dream, the interpretation I know is that the iron legs are Rome, because the Roman Empire was very strong, but after Rome fell, no following empire had that sort of broad rule ever again, therefore everythign after the Roman Empire was iron and clay mixed, because it was all sorts of dispariate nations and empires, some strong, some weak.
@TheMimiSard2 жыл бұрын
I will nitpick a passing comment - the King James Version is early Modern English. Keep in mind, the King James it is named after is the king who succeeded Elizabeth I, and that was the era of Shakespeare, and though Shakespeare's plays need a bit of explaination for old meanings, it is still fairly understandable to our modern understanding.
@TheMimiSard2 жыл бұрын
Another passing point, about how we view punishments - "Eye for an eye" was actually a revolutionary *fair* punishment standard when it was made. The cultures who lived around the Hebrews/Israelites were inclined to vastly out-of-proportion punishments for crimes, so "eye-for-an-eye" was very tame in comparision. I just was reminded about that by the talk about the furnace.
@TheMimiSard2 жыл бұрын
About gatekeeping Biblical learning and that quip about "Once you're a tier 48 Christian...", well I did a church-run course on prophecy (so Daniel and Revalation) when I was about... 19? Definitely my late teens.

Also on Isaiah saying he is a peer teacher at church, that reminds me of the junior ministers that would get sent to my church when I was growing up. I think it was a type of prac-teaching set-up, where a student at college would be sent out for practical experience. Avondale, teh college I am most familiar with (an Adventist tertiary college (nearly but not quite a university) that teaches religion, teaching, nursing and business) send out primary and secondary teachers to do a block of actually teaching in a school, so I think the junior minister do that as well. You send a younger minister to a church and it can be great for younger church members to connect with them, so I can see what Isaiah says about someone young being able to connect better with other young people when he explained his Sunday School teaching.

On the relation of Hebrew and Aramaic. They are different versions of the same language, as far as both are West Semitic languages. On the language tree Aramaics, _ie._ the different dialects or kinds of Aramaic, are on the same level as Hebrew as one of the Cananite languages. I had been taught all my youth that Aramaic is essentially a dialect of Hebrew. Studying the language it turned out that if either were a dialect it was Hebrew, although they're more like cousins to each other than dialects. Anyways the contemporary significance of Aramaic was waaay greater than Hebrew.

Regarding the rock which destroys the statue and grows to cover the whole earth, you're right that some Christians hold to the interpretation that you outlined - that this refers to a Kingdom established by Christ at the second coming. But the branch of Christianity I belong to holds that this refers to the establishment of the Church, and that the Church is the Kingdom of God. Jesus says the Kingdom of God is at hand multiple times in the Gospels, implying an immediacy of the Kingdom's arrival and establishment. And elsewhere Peter, Jesus' disciple and apostle, refers to the church as a "holy nation". We'd say that the rock that smashes the power of the statue is Christ and His gospel smashing the power of earthly kingdoms, particularly Rome, and then spreading outward across the whole earth.

So when I was 15 there was a murderer being executed and he had supposedly “found God.” I had been going to church and Sunday school since I was little with my grandparents and I asked them about this. I asked if he would go to heaven because he had repented, what would happen to someone who was a good person that helped others and did good things all their lives but wasn’t a church goer? They said that person would go to hell. I have not been to church since other than for weddings and funerals. I like the more general idea that it is about free will and that good people go to heaven and evil people go to hell. It’s not about who goes to church it’s about deeds.
@Pung_Fungler Жыл бұрын
I don’t want to be overbearing because I totally understand your perspective, I just wanted to share my perspective real quick, Morally, it’s about deeds, I agree, but good deeds alone will not get you to heaven, because nobody can be perfect, no matter how good they are. Only those who are seen as perfect go to heaven, and only those who have put their Faith in Jesus are seen as perfect in the eyes of God. It’s all about Faith as far as salvation goes, but it’s been said “Faith without works is dead,” meaning believers SHOULD move in a way that honors the Faith they have, aka, deeds. It all ties together, there’s just that little prerequisite because Jesus, who is God, was the only one who started and ended his time on earth without sin.
@namesdontmattergaming2756 Жыл бұрын
@@Pung_Fungler They were suggesting that regardless of whether you had faith in Jesus or not, if you lived a life of not being an absolute piece of garbage, you shouldn’t burn in an eternal lake of fire and darkness. There are people who do good deeds solely to do good, not because they expect to go to heaven or be rewarded for it. Also other religion’s followers or atheists can do good outside of their faith beliefs, and be upstanding people, God would know their soul and shouldn’t judge them solely for not believing in one particular faith.
