Sorry for keep on asking you questions but I have two more questions to ask you sir... Q1. For ethics ERQ "critical evaluation", should I structure the essay like this? 1. Write a general explanation of one ethical consideration (e.g. informed consent) 2. Explain a problem within a study (e.g. participant harm in Yulie and Cutshall's study) 3. Explain how the ethical consideration was used (e.g. participant harm justified by informed consent) Should I repeat these steps for 2 to 3 studies? Is this how I should do "critical thinking" for ethics ERQ? Q2. Can I also evaluate the studies itself for the ethics ERQ question? (e.g. high ecological validity). I think my essay would be too weak if I simply explain how an ethical consideration was used to justify a limitation. I'm a retake student from M20 and my current grade is 6 for Psychology HL. My previous teacher has moved to another school and I have no one to ask these questions. I'm desperate for a seven and your replies help me a lot. Sorry for asking too many questions sir

No problem. Evaluating the validity of a study in a question about ethics will be of marginal relevance to the question, so it won't score high marks for critical thinking - but it's better than nothing. You can explain a problem, or you can explain the potential for harm and how that risk is mitigated by following an ethical consideration (i.e. guideline). Perhaps this week I'll try to post an example essay on my blog. Generally I like your structure, depends on the question of course.

Hello Mr. Dixon, I have a question about the ethics SAQ. For my sociocultural ethics SAQ, I decided to prepare Asch’s conformity study. However, conformity is no longer part of the core topics. Do you think it would be okay to use this study for the ethics SAQ? Sorry for keep on asking you questions and thank you for replying to all my comments..

IF the question was about ethics in research on "the individual and the group," I think Asch's study would be acceptable. But why not revise one of the study's you're already going to use for another topic that IS in the exam? Saves you studying more studies. You don't have to epxlain an unethical study.

@@ThemanticEducation Are you planning to upload videos about writing Ethics ERQ? Your research methods ERQ video helped me A LOT.

Not soon - I've got a backlog of videos I need to make first. This topic probably won't get done in time for this year's exams, but I'll defo make one in the future.

Hello Mr. Dixon, I have a question about the studies we should use for the essay. Would it be okay if we have one animal study and one human study for the essays? Sincerely.
@ThemanticEducation3 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is Ok as long as the animal study is linked to human behaviour. I recommend aiming for 3 studies in essays.
