Hi guys, Pimvara: For some reason I can't reply to your comment. But you always have to respect a patient's autonomy it is one of the key ethical principles and it is in the Hippocratic Oath the one all doctors vow to before practicing. So although you may disagree with the beliefs you have to act in accordance with the patients wishes as long as they are fully aware that their actions may result in fatal consequences. If it is a child that's an interesting and difficult ethical scenario, but I would literally say that i'd have to consult the legal and ethical committee's at my hospital because a decision of this magnitude is too difficult to make individually.

Hi, Thanks for posing these videos as they are very insightful and helping me a lot in my preparation. I have a simple question for you about dealing with the ethical issue of when a close friend is caught stealing, you mentioned it in the video briefly but I did not see you expand on it. Could you quickly just give me a brief overview of what you think is most important in this case? Thanks!

Hey, great video mate! I was just wondering what would be your response to questions like a patient need a transfusion to survive, but she said that it is against her religion, what will you do? would you override her strong opposition? etc. Cheers.

Hi there! Thanks for making these videos! When we are trying to apply the "why do you want to be dr" question to personal experience would it be appropriate to tell them about your weight loss journey as well as family health issues and how that had led you Into wanting to pursue a career in medicine etc etc :)

Are these same question as PQA test T_T !! Cause it sounds more of how a person will answer depending on their manners!!
@TheMedicalMethod9 жыл бұрын
+Rania Moe I'm not sure about a PQA Test. But the answers are dependent on your thought process. Not really about manners, but your overall personal presentation, politeness, attitude will inevitably have impact on how the interviewer marks you. I hope this answers your question.

Thanks for this video, it is very informative! I just have one question. To go along with assisted suicide, there must be consent given and I was taught that there are three criteria at which the person giving consent must have: they must be fully informed; they can't be coerced; and they must be mentally competent. The first two would be satisfied but I feel the third isn't as he is in extreme pain, thus he is unable to make a rational decision, i.e. not mentally competent. What views would you guys have and how would you factor this in?
@TheMedicalMethod8 жыл бұрын
I can't remember how this is exactly relevant to this video but as a doctor your default if you deems someone to not be able to give consent is to preserve life or seek alternative advice. Also how stringent you are with mental competency depends on the procedure, risks and normal way forward. We discuss more issues like this in our online resources at store.frasersinterview.com.au

I'm preparing for an mmi interview and your videos are really helpful!! I'm just wondering if you think your questions/answers could apply the mmi for degrees other than medicine, like I'm doing speech therapy degree! Thanks :-)
@TheMedicalMethod8 жыл бұрын
+Matilda Watts (m4tilda) Hey Matilda, As far as I'm aware the MMI is mostly standardised so you should get very similar questions. The only difference will be the absence of the why you want to do Medicine question for obvious reasons.

Hi, I have an MMI sample and i would please like your opinion" you are the director of a financially struggling hospital. you have been unable to generate enough revenues to implement some very important initiatives at the hospital and are at risk of inevitable service cuts, if more funding is not secured immediately.the ONLY secure source of funds that is being offered is by a cigarette company. they are willing to provide your hospital with all the reources required in exchange for advertisement at your facilitywhat would you do as the hospital director?"Thank you
@nailachoudhury37958 жыл бұрын
Vanessa Azzi hmmmm can you say that you'd take the money and do advertising for the cigarettes, but agree with the company that this is only for a very short period of time, so that all the patients that need immediate help or patients that will get worse if they have to wait long for medical assistance are treated. For a doctor the patient always comes first, their wellbeing is your number one priority so any risk you're putting on the public by advertising cigarettes is acceptable because the patient comes first. Then as soon as you've treated the ones that needed medical assistance quickly, you can arrange for the other patients that are well enough to wait to go to a different hospital, stop the advertisements and close down your hospital for some time until you have enough money to re start it without relying on the cigarette company. This is just what I would say I don't know if it's correct
@danielosarfo-akoto81898 жыл бұрын
Naila, you generally don't want to commit to a side. Vanessa, this is a management type of question. And with almost all management positions, there are other highly qualified people on the board who can help with the decision making. Let them know what options are available. You could also suggest cutting funding from other parts of the hospital to help keep the hospital running for some time. There could even be a possibility for a merger with another hospital or company that shares ideals. You definitely do not want to damage the face or integrity of the hospital. I hope this helps

I dont know if i totally agree with your point about relentlessly sticking to your guns. If the interviewer makes a sound point that refutes what you are saying, I think you have a responsiblity to accept that you were wrong, and ammend your answer (provided you were wrong). I feel like this shows much more integrity, and a skillset more conducive to skill in the medical profession, where everything you do should be evidence based. (I'm loving your videos btw, my interview is in 3 days and i'm terrified)

You are in the wrong , this is why... The Hippocratic oath that is what a real doctor swears to uphold specifically states without question, that a doctor , or nurse, is to cause no harm , furthermore if a treatment is more harmful than the disease (in other words the side effects are more severe than the effects of the disease) then do nothing is how that is to be handled.
