Done this type of welding for almost 17 years before I switched form a structural shop to a fab shop. Two different worlds and lots to learn about fabrication. This took me back.

Im just surprised how slow you move the torch. I only have a little 180amp mig and thought these big welders would really throw the beads down. Im only watching as i was wondering about welding a steel framed garage up, but think ill leave it to the pros. Nice video

Wider beads equals more material being laid down, he is not running real hot it doesn't look like so the wire feed rate probably is not as high as it could be.

Nice job, can you share us your MIG setup working parameters on the voltage , wire speed, amperage and shield gas info?

Hey I really like your work, but I think, the inside of the flanges should be welded before the top of the flange

Is that a 203x203x46kg/m ? How strong are the welds compared to the steel and do uou have a way of testing the integrity of the weld?

It’s so great to watch your video. Wonderful work!!! May I ask you a question about how many faces / corner do we need weld in order to keep the structural stable ? After watching your video, I just found there is one flange corner/ below one flange( I am not sure how to describe where it is precisely) you have not welded. Does it matter?
@TheMetalFabGuy

Thanks for watching. It would be fully welded. At this stage it may have been a part completion.

@@TheMetalFabGuy One more question, Since 2015, I have a small factory in china about 2000 square meter, in total 55 I beams as , I just found that there are only two or three I beams not fully welded one month ago. When I ask construction team they told me it’s ok, do not worry at all. Then I start searching for the information online, finally got here. The video you post as I mentioned before very similar with my factory beams weld status. So I am wondering do I need repair? And How much risk influnece for not fully welded two or three beams out of 55 connection? If possible may I send some photo( not fully welded beams) to u ? This message sent from Chengdu, china. Thx in advance~ Jason Du

@jasondu9855 if it’s been in place since 2015 (at least) and you have no issues thus far, or are not planning to adapt, or add extra weight to the existing structure, then i see little reason to be concerned 9 years later. My Personal opinion. Though you should always consult a structural engineer for confirmation. Loads and capabilities (including welding spec) to ensure all is well.

If I needed some large structural sheet gates installed, what would a welder charge to fabricate the gate posts $$ ??
@TheMetalFabGuy
@TheMetalFabGuy 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for watching. I’d contact some fabricator welders local to you to get a few quotes. Would depend upon sizes/weights of post and their individual overheads.

Why push on thick material?
@phillhuddleston9445
@phillhuddleston9445 3 жыл бұрын
@Juan Ramirez True but I question the weld penetration you get from pushing, trying to get it straight, between pulling and pushing will give the best penetration.
