To The Movie Cynic: I never watched the Rings of Powers series but I have been hearing a lot of negative about this series. Also, I thought Azog died years ago in the battle of Moria before the The Hobbit story took place. So why is Azog in the Hobbit movie? I thought Azog died many years ago in the battle of Moria by the hands of Dain Ironfoot II before the Hobbit story. Bolg is the only one that should leading the army of goblins and wargs at the battle of the five armies. Because Azog is dead during this time period.

Why are there barrow wights if Gondor and Arnor have not yet been founded? The barrows didn’t exist until after the fall of the successor kingdoms which were established after the fall of Arnor. The barrows hold the noble dead of those lands which were crushed by the Witch King in service to Sauron... a service which didn’t even begin until after Sauron had gained possession of the lesser rings. The writing of this show makes me sad to think it could be someone's first exposure to something Tolkien-adjacent.

I tried it and felt like utter garbage. I did some research only to find out the stuff was full of alkaloids that probably had some questionable effects on one's liver and kidneys. So, it turns out the reason you felt so much better once the regimen was completed was down to the fact you had been taking low dose poison for a week. Rings of Power is a small and effective test to test the stupidity and mediocrity of the viewer. The level of writing is minimal and the series is built on polarizing hate baiting done to compensate with controversy for what the quality of the script is not going to provide. The few who defend it are neither aware of the very low criteria they have nor the profound ignorance about Tolkien's work that they carry. A work of non-existent quality made to touch the emotions of simple, easily impressionable people and that demonstrate with its simplicity that Tolkien is daisies for pigs. and then, aside, all that stuff about racism, black elves, beardless dwarfs, etc. is a controversy inserted on purpose so that people of very low intellectual level get lost in sterile debates that do not allow them to see reality: they are simple beings, with simple thinking, without deep and soulless.

28:00 As someone who has worked in the film and TV industry I can say, this is the unfortunate side-effect of actor's egos. There needs to be an even distribution of lines between the main characters in a scene. It's a thing. Now you know about, you'll ID it all the fkin time, unfortunately. The only exception to this is when one actor is higher paid or more famous than the others so they will get more lines of dialogue or a more prominent depiction in each scene - because they are the biggest ego in the room.

Insane to me that anyone who loves Tolkien's work would watch this woke garbage. People should have known considering how ugly the actors are. They don't look like Elves and Dwarves. The actors aren't good. The casting isn't good. And from ever one of these review videos I've seen, the show is one of the worst of all time.

My one “to be fair” is to say that Elrond is supposedly a scholar with little real world experience so him not recognizing the barrow-wights but knowing how to defeat them once he hears the name makes at least some sense.

Same. Or Peter Jackson, for that matter. But then again, if he had been involved from the get go, we would have gotten something better or at least passable.

Why do you all watch this shite and then come on KZbin to post about how shite it is? I'm a Tolkien fan and knew as soon as I saw the first trailer to give it a miss. By watching this nonsense you are contributing to it's continuation. They don't care if you like it, they just need you to watch it.

it's about Amazon PRIME subs. Nothing more. They've calculated that shit through and ended up with a fat +. One tuber more or less watching it won't change a thing.

In Tolkien's original return of the king, orcs dont really want to go to war they dont fear it its just that the dark lord's war specifically isnt one that interested them. They had their own inner battles they wanted to fight. They had things THEY cared about fighting and fighting for, and the only way they would listen to the Dark Lord is if the Dark Lord hired whipmasters that could use the orcish language of violence against them, dominate them at their own game, then herd them & dump them off at the battlefields of his chosing To the dark lord, Orcs were bugs. Snarks from Half Life that nip at you and you gotta reach in there and pick up the whole hive and hurl rabid animals at your foes. He his someone who finds a way to guide a swarm of locusts.

There are so many moments when it’s clear this show was written by AI. ie. nothing but Sauron could have destroyed the bridge and Elrond not knowing what the barrow wights were but does know how to kill them.

Adar "turning good" at the end made sense to me. Nenya healed him, presumably including Morgoth's torment, and is basically turned back into an Elf (at least while wearing it).
@moriscondo5511Ай бұрын
the visuals were good, but the cast choices ruin the aesthetic of Middle Earth for DEI. Also, the timeline of Tolkien was thrown into a blender. Overall I wanted to like thius, but got pissed off at it many times. Goddamn writers at Amazon thinking they know better than Tolkien. That elf charachter, Arondir, or however it's spelled looks like a US marine, not a damn elf. Fail on Amazon. They could have used those same actors but in different roles.

why does the modern writing not have that magic anymore? even now when i watch lotr i can feel that mesmerizing feeling from the dialogue.....these series feel so fake.. like they are telling to our faces that "we are totally acting
@drowningmonday4374Ай бұрын
Well said. There is no drama or real feeling of pacing and immersion in new media. LOTR was a masterpiece
@flandstuteclasher3767Ай бұрын
@drowningmonday4374 yeah that's it... immersion Even with bad pacing it could be awesome but the immersion is completely missing... Instead of middle earth it feels like a studio

Thanks for your in-depth analysis of TRoP. After season 1 ended i looked forward to watching season 2. Surely things would start making more sense. But after the Harfoots got taken away by the whirlwind I was so disoriented and confused by the multiple story lines that I just quit watching it. I thought I must not be intelligent enough to understand this complex telling of a tale. Thanks to your explanation I now know the problem was not with my failing mental capabilities, but the insanity of the writers and producers of this train wreck series. By watching your complete video i now know how TRoP ended without having to watch hours and hours just to be torture. Plus I have been freed from the confusion of Middle Earth forever....

I remember when I was 15 years old, this was in the late 90s... I discovered and read the Lord of the Rings books. To this day, I love everything about Tolkien, the books, the lore, the history, the world and universe. I cannot bring myself to watch this show. It is too painful as it not only destroys but mocks everything Tolkien stood for and created. Thank you for showcasing and articulating it so well in this video.

So I love the writing of this shit show and I love that it’s a thing. It only makes me LOVE Tolkien even more. Makes me cherish the fact that those movies got made when they did bc imagine if they got made today. I just feel bad for the actors who actual try to make it better by giving their all but it’ll never work.
