To be fair, it CAN actually be done right. But that means taking advantage of the fact it's a dream from the get-go, and using a lot of surreal humour, and the character having the dream has to have some sort of meaningful development (or a subversion of such) from it. As opposed to just using it as a lazy copout from the rules of continuity right at the end of an episode.

Dexxus This is how not to do the "IT WAS ALL A DREAM!" plot. You also have to signify that it's a dream to the audience--OK KO just wrote it was a dream when it played out like a normal episode. Hell, they could have had the skeletons groaning like the undead about guns--I mean, remotes, having been corrupted by their supposed power as the dream gets trippier. But no, they just threw that ending in there like we were too dumb to see it.

This trope came into play when people started wanting to write fiction but not confuse the readers who were used to nonfiction (in this case, the bible, which as we all know is without a doubt true...) In a modern landscape it has no real reason to exist, you dont need it to justify the impossible because the impossible happens without justification in fiction all the time now.

Also i never really liked this show after the first 10 episodes it just became a deviantart fangirl the show and the show goes wayyyy too off-model sometimes and the reason why i like the off model style in spongebob and not this show is because spongebob is a silly comedy cartoon and this is a show with a story arc and sometimes i dont even know if this is a steven universe 2 or a silly comedy cartoon? Also the animation is lazy i mean have you seen the background characters? And the skeletons don’t even match some of the peoples body types

You can work with it. It's effectively an anti-super gun, or, to use the stand-in's represented item, a gun that destroys other guns without harming the other person. Once this is pointed out, the episode becomes a lot more confusing, since it's kinda a pro-gun point in the line with the old quote, "God made all men, Samuel Colt made all men equal." I guess the point is to play more into OK K.O's world. Superpowered nutjobs cause havoc, most direct solution is take away superpowers.

That's why this plot would have had a little more weight if the people turned into skeletons just...fell apart and couldn't move at all. Some kids watching might be scared, but I think OK KO could handle it. January 6, 2019, 10:49pm

@harleymitchelly5542
@harleymitchelly5542 5 жыл бұрын
@@brifox Yes and no. The Incredibles Argument doesn't exactly translate 1 to 1 here because the point is being invoked for the express purpose of pointing out that everyone becomes equal because, in the case of the show, the bar is lowered to the same point for everyone, and in the case of guns, heightened to the same point as everyone else. Usually it's invoked to show how making everyone/thing X takes away the meaning of X. I guess to sum it up, the creator of the remotes is a reverse Syndrome in the most literal of interpretations. He's not making everyone super, ergo no supers, he's given non-supers a way to lower everyone down to the non-super level. That might change depending on if we want to use this as a metaphor for a grander point though. I think I answered it, but I'm a bit confused as to where exactly you're going with it, so if you were expecting a more specific response, hit me back on it.

"It was all a dream" This is what we call lazy writing, folks. What a lame twist, if a cartoon wants to do an episode set in a dream, it has to be dreamlike. This setting in this episode is pretty much exactly like KO's real life as much as possible and then this twist just comes out of nowhere. I don't know if y'all have had dreams that you remember before, but they move pretty fast. Like you're talking to GlAd0s at one point and then suddenly you're stopping the Joker from entering a wormhole. You don't feel pain in dreams, a dream snake bite won't affect you at all, and emotional responses like fear, joy, etc. are very strong in dreams. What I'm getting at here is that the "it was just a dream" twist is a TERRIBLE turn if the story wasn't built from the ground up to be in a dream.

"You don't feel pain in dreams" I got shot and stabbed in the stomach in a dream once I instantly woke up because I actually thought I got shot/stabbed. You CAN clearly feel pain in a dream. If the pain is significant enough, it may actually wake you up from the dream. You just can't die in a dream.

Gargoyles did an episode about gun safety. But the difference is, while Gargoyles, was intended for a young demographic, it still treated these subjects with respect and maturity. A maturity that was also reflective of its tone, OK: KO has none of the tone that Gargoyles does hence why it's hard to take this episode seriously and makes it come off as a "very special episode" with only one side of the argument.

Yeah, it's still sucked that most 70s and 80s shows does have a lack of violence and all stuff like that. This is when Tom and Jerry or Looney Tunes started to get downhill pretty much everything. I mean, take a look of He-Man (AKA Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaah), he is a very non-violent and he does'nt need to punch, kick, or using sword as an offensive weapon. He just outsmarted his enemies. But as the 2 decades ended till' 90s, violence returned to its normal state. Today, cartoon violence needed to be very delicate or not trying to cross-the-line here. But for a gun control, I think the episode should have set up a gun safety instead of gun banning.

I don't remember the Static Shock one at all, but I can imagine it fitting in quite well with the show. So well in fact that as a child I probably just figured it was so thematically consistent with the setting that I just thought it was a good episode and nothing of the message. TL;DR time: You could say that is a bad thing, but trying to teach a child by beating them over the head with it until it sticks has a tendency to result with defiance and or disdain for what is trying to be taught. Whereas a child learning important lessons naturally as they grow up from what is going on around them seems like a good idea for not having them end up wilfully ignoring and even going against what others have tried to have them learn. ...Though this is all coming from someone who - as a child - always rooted for the villains, hated a lot of concepts that were socially normal and loved things that were socially unacceptable. :x

One of my least favorite arguments: Video games causing gun violence. People seem to act like that's the only possible variable, though there could be a massive number of reasons. Let me give you a hypothetical argument. "Video games cause violence. All of the violent media we're exposing our kids to is corrupting their minds and turning them into monsters." Well, that isn't a guarantee. In fact, multiple studies from the past decade or so have shown that video games, mainly games like Grand Theft Auto, one of the main examples used in their case, has little to no effect on how a person thinks or behaves. But, they still enforce their argument. Something I learned in my Statistical Reasoning class in high school was that just because 2 things seem associated, it doesn't mean that one thing causes the other to be like that. Let me give you an example. The number of violent or M rated video games has been increasing. Gun violence has went up in the past few years. Does this mean that the increase of games increases gun violence? No. There are many other possible factors that could influence the amount, and this is the part that most people with this "Video games cause violence" argument seem to miss. Let's go over some other variables. Other causes for gun violence increasing are: 1. A possible mental health problem, likely caused by abuse. 2. Stress, causing someone to not think clearly, acting very haphazardly. 3. The "leaderboard" mentioned in this video. People want to be remembered, and people see others getting remembered for doing something violent, so other people do similar acts so they can get remembered. It's a similar concept to peer pressure. 4. Drugs, which can have very negative effects on the brain. Do these causes get considered by the side blaming games? No. They purposely ignore them to push their narrative. Science has already proven that games aren't the issue, and there are multiple other, more likely issues that could factor into this, but they don't seem to get talked about as much as the dead arguments that aren't even true. I would really like to discuss this topic in more detail, and in more than just a KZbin comment. I feel like those other possible reasons should be brought up more, especially mental health.
@wingedmirage4226
@wingedmirage4226 6 жыл бұрын
AutisticGameGuy Totally agree. If anything, video games give people an outlet for their aggression, a distraction from their problems and possibly worse habits. A kid playing video games inside is less likely to be roaming the streets and getting involved with gangs, drugs, etc. Don't give little kids ultra violent games and it should be fine. Mental health seems to be that one thing no one ever wants to talk about. It needs more attention though. Not all mentally ill people are violent, for one. I think people should visit a psychologist just as much as a regular doctor, for basic mental checkups and someone to talk to. I think that alone could help a lot. No drugs unless absolutely necessary though. Those are way too unstable and vary too much per person.

By that logic the cartoons back then like the Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and all the other action shows out there are turning kids into violent monsters right. Uh huh. And the other reasons you listed are the reasons why I’m anti gun. There’s just too many risky situations where they could easily get into the wrong hands. If you want one to defend yourself fine but a deadly weapon is a bit much and is very fatal. If you shoot someone they die on the spot or at least they die later in the hospital from their injuries you gave them. Very rare chances of the person surviving.

I don't see how a kid playing Grand Theft Auto for example and the next day is like "omg lemme shoot up my school", it really doesn't make any sense. Implying this scenario just means you're assuming a kid loses all empathy and compassion for people around them over a game that they like playing?? What? does Joey want to suddenly shoot up his friend Mike after playing Grand Theft Auto?? No, bc he still likes his friend obviously. For someone to get to a breaking point, there has to be something making them irrational or irritable, like declining mental health or drugs. Idk, ppl with the video games argument just miss the bigger picture and seem ignorant to mental illness. In general we need more mental health awareness. Pretty sure one of those school shooters was a victim of bullying, not bc he was playing his "violent games".

Actually, American mass shooting rates have been on the decline, especially in schools. The reason school shootings seem more prevalent nowadays is due to social media coverage, but they've actually been on a steady decline since Columbine. Outside of schools, we're not the lowest we've ever been in body count or number of incidents, but the trend has still been on the negative overall. They actually lowered the number of victims for a shooting to be considered a "mass shooting" back in like 2010 or something like that and the number of mass shooting incidents has still been on the decline. Incidentally, the majority of single-victim gun crime occurs in designated gun-free zones. I guess the fact that some law-abiding citizen with an AR-15 could be waiting for you around the corner is a pretty good deterrent, huh?

Finally, regulate the news media and actually ban the naming of the shooter and showing their face.
@silverbug97
@silverbug97 6 жыл бұрын
Dudley Hudgenson I don't really understand what you mean by "a universal national background check system". We already have that with NICS. When you buy a gun you have to pass a federal background check that's controlled by the FBI. If you've done something wrong in one state it's going to pick that up and you're going to fail in every state.
@tristanmcfrosty2588
@tristanmcfrosty2588 6 жыл бұрын
Project Silver Well the deal is that you don't have to go through a background check if it's from a third-party seller, such as a thrift store or a gun show. It's called the "Gun Show Loophole," I learned about it on a confirmation trip to Washington DC. Also I remember learning about some thing where if your BC isn't completed within like 48 hours or something it's just null and void, but I'm fuzzy on that one. Basically the point is that there are a bunch of shitty loopholes that could easily be filled with cement. Granted, I don't honestly think that doing so would actually halt all of these shootings, but this is what people mean by a "universal background check" if I'm not mistaken.
@silverbug97
@silverbug97 6 жыл бұрын
Tristan McFrosty There's a problem with that. NICS is the system the FBI runs background checks through to see if someone's legally able of purchasing a firearm. Back when it was first established there was a lot of hubbub about whether or not private citizens should be capable of accessing a federal database (to run the checks) or not and ultimately it was decided that this wasn't a good idea (to keep people's information secure). To cover these third-party sales you would either need to allow every citizen of the U.S. to be able of accessing the FBI's database or... you'd need to essentially allow everyone to call/email the FBI and request a check at any possible moment (this is what FFL's do). No, I don't think I need to point out how much of a logistical nightmare this would be for the Bureau. They'd have phones ringing nonstop. Their inboxes would be perpetually full. And this isn't even getting into the fact that such a system relies entirely on people being honest. If Joe sells Bob a gun out of his garage how would the FBI even know such a transaction occurred? This is how felons acquire firearms and this is why the majority of firearm-related crime is committed with illegally obtained weapons.

On one hand, I agree that political messages done badly are obnoxious and, in some cases, metaphorically agonizing. However, I don't think we should therefore avoid politics in media. When you get down to it...any media worth watching/reading/whatever has _something_ to say, obvious or not, and the line between political and non-political statements is pretty much nonexistent. Avatar: The Last Airbender was political; it took a hard stance against colonialism and ethnic prejudice. It would be worse if it hadn't made such a worldview clear, if it hadn't built it into every facet of its story. What we need isn't fewer political messages in media. What we need is political messages that people _put gorram effort into._

Its unfortunate because there's been so much blatant politically charged media over the years that people have naturally developed an aversion to it, even if it's handled well. For every one case like Avatar, there's 3 or 4 like Ghostbusters 2016 that just turns people away from it all. I agree that we shouldn't avoid politics in our media, but considering how hostile the current climate is i imagine its going to be very very difficult for anything even remotely political to be received well by people of any affiliation.

The best media that can approach political topics is (like it was said in the review) be it a secondary goal alongside telling a good story. However if you're doing that kind of stuff, it's extremely tempting to go overboard with pushing your agenda, unless you put some thought into it like a real human being in a debate. Most of these media either do it obnoxiously (like this episode) or are too rare to make an impact on society.

Speaking as a 2A advocate, there are a few things wrong with this episode of a show I kinda liked: First off: having a gun proxy in a world where everyone has insane magical powers and technological advancements to the point where lazers are a common attack type is kinda pointless. Technologically speaking, easy-to-carry-and-use lasers are the fictitious end goal of firearm technology, so having something that shoots a physical projectile at the speed of sound in a world where energy projectiles moving at the speed of light is kinda outdated. Second: this is a HORRIBLE proxy for a gun. A remote that can turn people into walking skeletons that only lose their powers? The point of the gun is to protect oneself with the threat of death to any attacker, so a better analogy would be a remote that turns people into sand or stone or dust. Third: this would've actually made an excellent Gun Safety episode if they didn't put the remotes in hands of people who don't know proper etiquette, like pointing away and keeping the finger off the trigger until needing to kill. Enid literally runs around blasting the remote into the ceiling all willy-nilly, with no one but KO getting worried. If someone started shooting a gun like that near me, I'd wholeheartedly expect them to go to jail for willful endangerment. I would've remade it to where the person selling it was given some time before delivering it due to background checks, Carol (K.O.'s mom) getting one with a book on proper usage and gun etiquette, and her scolding K.O. for treating it like a toy instead of a tool for self defense or hunting, and can cause serious damage if he doesn't know how to use it properly. Fourth, the whole thing being because of a businessman trying to push a product is really off-base from America's deal with Firearms. Mainly, that it's a constitutional right for Americans to have the means to defend ourselves from anything that can threaten our rights or lives, and that businesses don't really determine that, but offer more of a variety of different makes and models of guns for home defense, self defense and hunting. Even then, some manufacturers do stop themselves from producing certain arms after horrible shootings, like how Colt stopped production of their AR-15's after they became a sort of bogeyman.

It’s noble that OK KO wanted to raise awareness about this issue, considering current events, but this episode really didn’t do a good job at it. The skeleton remotes taking powers away isn’t a terrible metaphor for a superhero show, but they should have let the consequences of the remote set in more, like since they’re powerless, villains can just wreak havoc without heroes to stop them. I used to think this episode was good, but the more I thought about it, the more I disliked it. It’s too one sided for anyone on the other side to change their mind, so it just preaches to the choir. actually,there is another problem besides giving the criminals more power. if the things are banned,there is no reason to directly teach the kids that its dangerous until they are older(i think when i was a kid,i was only ever told that drugs are bad because they have horrible after effects. i wasnt told until this year what those after effects can be and i am 17. like,i seriously didnt know what lsd does). so if they get their hands on those banned things somehow,they dont know its dangerous and are more likely to get themselves or others killed. or they dont know to be cautious if they are confronted by an individuals carring such things.

If you ask me, the problem with mass shootings and mass murder isn't necessarily in the tool used. If somebody really wants to kill a bunch of people, they'll find a way, whether it's driving a truck into a crowd, setting off an explosive in a truck, or piloting a plane into a building. I mean, explosives were almost used in Columbine, but they never went off. The guns were just the back-up plan. If the bombs went off, the casualties would have been in the triple digits and I don't think the current problem would be guns. I think the problem is, in addition to the media as pointed out in the video above and the AlternateHistoryHub video, is mental health. A normal person isn't going to even want to kill one person, let alone a dozen. For example, Eric Harris was diagnosed with psychopathy and Dylan Klebold was diagnosed with depression, both post-mortem. If more people were aware of the signs back then, somebody would have probably pointed them to the authorities, and we'd never have heard about Columbine. And, as I'm sure everybody is aware, the United States has this problem the most, and we don't have a good mental healthcare system.
@TheGr1IsHere
@TheGr1IsHere 6 жыл бұрын
If you look into some of these cases, you will find people were aware of the mental issues and even violent issues but they did not address them correctly. A recent shooting actually had a violent act committed by the person a year before but since they chose to not prosecute the person, they were never place on a list that would of stopped them from buying a weapon. Criminals cannot buy guns, ever and in some cases background checks would of stopped them and in at least one case i am aware of a background check did stop someone who turned around and stole the weapon they used. There are a lot of problems but when i looked up the information many years ago about background checks and found that thousands such checks have stopped people from buying guns, but the government did not follow up on why this or that person, who cannot legally buy a gun, was trying to get a gun. This is never an easy issue to address and going to any extreme is not the answer, because extremes have never solved any problem, instead it just becomes a reason to throw hate at someone to help someone else politically and it is all around bad. Another little note and this has to do with bans, Columbine happened during an assault rifle ban, that later expired as it was a 10 year ban, and the guns used were hunting rifles. There is a movement over in the UK to ban knives, but you do not hear about it too much and knowing someone who lives there, many attacks are not even discussed on the news because they are trying to keep the public from learning how much violence still exists, and i got this directly from a friend living there. It really is hard to find the truth behind they extreme emotional reactions and emotions while they happen and are important to address cannot be allowed into making any laws.

@Mullerornis I, similar to Mr. Enter, have pretty mixed feelings about the lobby for tighter gun laws, although I err slightly on the side of not supporting them, so I guess I'm qualified to respond to you. On one hand, yes, there does seem to be a correlation between loose gun laws and the amount of crimes committed with guns. On the other hand, however, most gun violence is committed with handguns, which, let's be real, are never getting banned in the United States, and most states do have laws in place that require permits and whatnot to legally own those. Even though mass shootings are all the rage on the news, you'de to be incredibly unlucky to ever actually be caught in one, much less die in one, because they're so rare. Basically, if someone was going to be shot and/or killed by a gun, they're much more likely to be killed by a revolver or a tiny pistol than an AR-15. Also, yes, there are statistics on gun crime, but it's important to remember that for just about every crime there is, there are a lot more instances of crimes being unsuccessfully attempted, and never being reported to police. If a homeowner spots a suspicious person lurking around their door at night, and they flash a gun to show they're armed, and the suspicious person runs away... well, most of the time, the homeowner won't call the cops to investigate, and nobody ever finds out. But that doesn't mean having that gun didn't help the homeowner. I think one of the gun control methods that I directly disagree with is the requirement in some states to wait a "grace" period before being able to obtain your weapon. The intent is great; it's meant to prevent people from buying and using weapons on a whim, but really, all it does is make people who seriously might need a self-defense moment for whatever reason (stalker, abusive relationship, being threatened, etc) vulnerable in that moment. The US has a gun problem, but just making it harder for average citizens to get guns isn't going to solve anything. There is no black and white, x and y way to curb gun violence, at least when it comes to gun control. For a start, I noticed that the vast majority of states with the highest gun violence also tend to have the highest poverty rates and the lowest concentrations of educated people... so we can hypothetically start by trying to put more jobs in those areas to curb poverty, or something like that. I don't know the magic course of action to bottleneck gun violence, but I feel like tightening gun laws, especially in states like New York and New Jersey, can't do much else to reduce gun violence.
@Commenter839
@Commenter839 6 жыл бұрын
@Mullerornis The question for that is how, if handguns are so widespread and commonplace already, and there are already laws in place in most states to prevent certain people from legally owning firearms. "Control" is a very vague term.

The problem is people who want guns banned are the same people that want to rely on the government for protection which is troubling cause that's the first sign of creating a corrupt government. We are required by law to take detailed notes of every call we receive, and things like age, gender, religion, or sex do not matter when it comes to equal treatment. What DOES matter is the location, because if you call someone like Elizabeth Warren but live in Texas, there's not a lot that she can do for your case other than recommend you contact your own us congressman. If the writers had *realized* that, it could have really helped the metaphor. Would have been consistent with the "takes away superpowers" line, too. Had this episode been done properly, the characters would have tried to fight as skeletons only to be taken down by a single punch like that one was. Essentially, being turned into a skeleton would take away all of one's strength and endurance. Not killing you on their own, but basically leaving you with 1 HP left. It would have been a decent way to show that the remotes are in fact a lethal threat while keeping the graphic violence to a broadcast-acceptable level. But these guys don't have a drop of self-awareness and missed the chance to boost their own point.

Anyone who thinks there are no rules or regulations on firearm ownership has never bought a gun. The only way you can buy a gun without a background check is if you buy it from a 3rd party. Those sales are a small percentage of the total. If you make that illegal people will just sell their gun and report it stolen. BTW in my state IL you have to get a Firearm Owners ID card from the state police. You have to verify even on 3rd party transfers the buyer has a valid FOID card. You can do this online or over the phone. The state police updates the database every day. If you do something to cause you to loose your FOID card the state police come take it. All of this has done nothing to stop shootings in Chicago. People are arrested every day carrying guns without FOID cards and without carry licences. They are rarely charged and when they are they get a slap on the wrist. Enforce the laws that are on the books before making new ones. Lawbreakers will break the law particularity when there are no consequences.

I’m pro guns, but I think not everybody should own one, like felons or mentally incapacitated people or people who are gonna randomly shoot their friends in the shoulder because they think the safety’s off. I’m really accident prone so I wouldn’t own one.

The greatest Virtue of Pro-Gun is that out of everyone they respect guns the most... and don't treat them like mythological objects. I swear if I hear "Assault weapons" one more time... I am pro gun control but I find my own side to be mostly advocated by people who don't know what guns are.

It's almost like the problem isn't the guns, but rather that we, as humans, have horrible impulse control and anger-management.

Mr.Enter, despite recent events (which I am ignorant of and would prefer to stay so), I loved your video. I've gained perspective that I'm not sure I would have, and perspective worth far more than the subject matter. Thank you.

I wonder if this is like his video on Homer Badman, where he outlined that, yes, the thing in particular was the Cosby scandals, but that he didn't need to specify since there would always be a scandal that matched the satire, this being either a follow-through on that precedent of Mr. Enter reading up on Media Contagion and how the media reporting on mass shootings actually increases mass shootings, similarly to celebrity suicides. Notable difference being that media outlets collectively agreed to stop reporting on celebrity suicides when this was pointed out and didn't with mass shootings.

I'd be intersted in seeing any talk about the gun safety episode of Gargoyles as a counterpoint to this. And whether you feel that one is done better or not. That's not sacrasm. I'm honestly curious.

Someone else brought it up and basically said it was better handled because Gargoyles treated the subject with the tone necessary for the topic.

Gargoyles really treated the topic with a lot of respect and both characters involved learned something. Broadway understood that guns are not toys and that playing around with weapons can hurt or kill loved ones (or innocent people in general) since he almost killed Elisa and she admitted at the end of the episode that it was also her fault since she let her gun lying around instead of putting it somewhere save.

Instead of making it a dream, it would have been better twist if it turned out to be a film presentation to Gil and that congresswoman on why making that remote is a bad idea. The message would still be terrible, but at least it would make the story more original.

Yeah. I think the problem in terms of this episode is that they tried a little TOO hard to get their message across. It just comes off as preachy to me.

I believe that if children are old enough to be shot, they should be old enough to speak out about the conditions that lead to it. But I guess only people who are 18 can be victims now, huh?

I dont know, when Ok K.O woke up, told his mother, said mother says to call your state representative/Congress member, and we then swipe to a superhero/Congress woman whose powers are political balance beating up a man who sells guns, I kinda took the episode as a spoof on 80-90s shoehorned PSAs that carried a message with them. Hell, the Captain Planet episode sorta did the exact thing. At worst, it is a weird spoof/satire on what was prevalent when the creators of the show were growing up and watching cartoons.

Mindrig Universe Idk dude, you view it however you like, but considering how hot of a topic gun control is right now and how liberal many the show’s creators are (which I’m not saying as a negative aspect, I’m a Demo. myself, just saying that many of them are from Steven Universe which should give you an idea of their political thoughts), I feel like this is quite clearly a legitimate attempt to push a message about gun violence. Even if it is a parody, then it shouldn’t be handled in such a way, because kids aren’t going to be sophisticated enough to understand so and will take it seriously.

Don't do this... Don't even try to do this, even if it is a parody it's not a very good or enjoyable as one. It simply takes it's self way too seriously to be a parody.

The episode paying homage to Dexter's Lab was a parody, this is a pathetic shoe-horning of the creator's flawed political views in an attempt to stay relevant to the times in a show aimed at children. This show is fantastic when it focuses on what it was created for, wacky action that pays homage to anime, superheroes, and video games, these episodes with messages such as this have no place in it, at least the Captain Planet episode actually fit the theme of the show even if it did have a somewhat political theme as well.

Considering the issue talked about I still one that’s very relevant today it’s likely it’s not trying to be a parody and is being seriously, though with how dumb characters get when they do get the guns- oh I mean “skeleton remotes” I can see why you would think that but it’s more likely they’re serious.

I think what many people don't realize is that criminals, you know, break the law. If something is illegal and someone really wants to do it anyway they will find a way to do it. When alcohol was banned in America a huge market for illegal liquor arose. Banning more things is not going to solve anything.
