Probably because of the definition... people like to say "of a woman by a man"... thereby making it impossible for a man to be raped (by definition). Which is so wrong.

I got into an argument with someone about this once. I eventually got them to a point where they said "Well it doesn't matter as much cause Men don't have the risk of getting pregnant from it." To which I responded "What if a woman who could not have children for whatever reason was raped? Would it matter less for them?" That shut them up pretty quick.

@@alexhirsch5738 The topic of sexual harassment is a sour subject for me, because when I was in junior high, I kept making sex jokes and quoting YTPs during lunch and in-between classes, and just generally acting pervy, and I got reported to the principal's office at least 3 times in 7th grade, no joke. I wasn't trying to make anyone uncomfortable, I was just trying to fit in, and be funny. 8th grade was even worse, and I ended up in the office, again no joke, 5 times that one year alone. It got to the point where I had to go to the district and almost got EXPELLED. 9th grade wasn't much better. Again, I was joking, made some sex jokes, offended some people, and got suspended at least twice more, and I hadn't learned my lesson about being appropriate in official environments in even 11th and 12th grade, as I got suspended at least once in 11th grade, I think, and in 12 grade( last year), I got in trouble for saying if I didn't get stress relief soon, I would kill myself or other people. I'm a "super senior" this year, which is a euphemistic way of saying I'm being held back until I raise my grades, and so far, I haven't gotten in trouble for anything. One of my friends told me she was sexually harassed by a guy, and I wanted to find him and kick his ass. Sorry this is so long.

A law and order episode did this same topic and I honestly handled it better. They were investigating a male stripper accusing three women of raping him almost got dismissed out of hand one of the investigators all but outright says he doesn't believe a man can be raped at all only for a female coworker and their boss to point out that it's still wrong either way the boss pointing out that rape is rape no matter what and the female coworker pointing out that an erection is a purely physical response that can be caused by friction. Saying a man is consenting because of an erection is like saying a woman is asking to be raped by how she dresses. Unlike in this show this moral sticks because a similar case comes up later and everyone takes it seriously

Thank you, Mr. Enter. People need to understand that everyone is a person first; let's not let a coin toss decide how they should be treated. Let their actions decide. This doesn't mean bad things should happen to bad people. It means that you should always consider whether or not you are safe, if the people around you are, and take the necessary steps. Anyone can be a rapist, your friend, a coworker, or a loved one (etc.). Anyone can be harassed, abused and assaulted; these abusers more than likely have friends/family of their own. Being a victim doesn't give you a free pass to create your own. That responsibility does not befall your abuser; it is yours. If you are not a safe person; get professional help, don't insert yourself in people's lives without a care in the world. Don't become a part of the problem. There are always two sides of the same coin. There is no excuse for abuse. Everyone has a backstory. That fact, doesn't excuse them from making yours (or: a friend/loved one's) any worse.

This is...in this episode, this is the same excuse, the same justification, that my mother tried to use with both me and the courts after she was...discovered...molesting me when I was fourteen. She was just LONELY because her husband had left her when I was nine years old, she said to everyone who would listen. Thankfully, luckily, perhaps, even, none of it flew with the people who had the power to stop her and punish her, and she's been in prison for almost ten years now, and I have spent the last seven years of my life with my amazing adoptive parents and sister, who have helped me to heal, to move forward, and to learn to not be afraid of all the normal things that my mother made me be afraid of, and who I have always considered to be my REAL family. However...since then, I HAVE met people who have, to my face, told me that, "Oh, it wasn't rape, that's impossible because she didn't have a penis." or even things like, "She was just trying to show you love and affection, and you overreacted." and there have even been some who have tried to tell me that because my body...responded (I don't want to go into details)...that that invalidated the "rape" and meant I had "consented", never mind that I was a child and couldn't have even done THAT. And, confronted with these words, I...like you, Mr. Enter, all I feel is disgust, and rage, and sickness at it all, and these ideas, these misconceptions and horrific media stereotypes...and the people that genuinely believe in them. I don't...I don't have any words for this episode itself, sad to say. I've never seen it, nor the show itself as a whole, and I never intend to. Like when I'm confronted with the above kinds of people, I just have too many emotions inside of me to think very logically or reasonably. But even if I did, I think you said everything that needed to be said, analyzed everything that needed to be analyzed, and discussed the things that needed to be discussed, and I thank you for it (I subscribed to you, and I'm sorry I haven't checked out your content before now).

That's what I thought, too. And it isn't as though Family Guy has never done episodes about serious subjects, with well done morals. I thought their episode where Chris dates a girl with Down Syndrome, thinking her special and unique, only to discover she's just as capable of being an asshole as anyone else, was a great twist on getting people to look past someone's disability. But this one, plus their episode about domestic violence with Quagmire's sister, feels like they're deliberately trying to miss the point, because "Fucked up = funny."

Yep. Unfortunately because of my PTSD, I used to come off as "easy" because I had a hard time saying no because I didn't want to make people mad. When it would happen, I'd freeze and just let it happen. I felt so dirty and ashamed. Because people would think I was into it when I just wanted it to end. It was never like, sex but just guys who I thought were just my friends getting really horny, grabby and handsy towards me. Even now I cannot be around other guys without feeling uneasy and hypervigilant. I have a fiance and I've told him everything that's happened to me in the past just so he understands why I have certain emotions and mannerisms. Especially in public. He's my first and my only. I've never wanted anything polygamous. I can't bring myself to think of a reason to sleep with someone else. He's my one and only partner. I get sick when I get messages from these dudes who have like one mutual friend on Facebook telling me "Oh I know you. You're so and so's friend. I saw you at his house. You're super cute and we should hook up". And before you say anything, that so and so is a good friend of mine who I can trust without getting bad vibes. He's protective like an older brother. I've had a friend who, in the middle of us just driving around, said "let's go get you a woman" and made a B-line for the nearest... "hunting grounds"? Anyway, he's a great friend, but I just remember being so uncomfortable. I have a borderline-asexual level of motivation for sex, and I definitely was not in the market at that time. Anyhow, it occurred to me after browsing a little that if I declined a girl who was interested in front of him, it could negatively affect his view of me. Luckily we didn't find anybody that night, so I never ended up having to open that can of worms. But I'll never forget that fear of potentially having sex with some random person just out of fear of what others would think of me, just so that I wouldn't be considered "weird." I've never been put in a sexual harassment situation, but after that night I can see where all of the pressures placed on men in such an event would come from.
@EternaMidnight

I don't know why it's so rare that people, man or woman, may prefer only have sex with someone of meaning to them. That situation sounds dehumanizing for both you/men and women tbh. Making women a sex object prize to be "gotten" and you into a sperm dispenser that would fuck anything given the chance. Sure sex is good, but plenty of people say "there is sex and there is making love". Why is it looked down on that you would want to be sensual and have a full experience with someone you love instead of just do a mechanical action with a stranger and forget about it in a week? It's so disappointing, makes me recoil from mainstream society... But I know i'm not alone in this, and neither are you.

Nathangeles "wow, what an underwhelming story about your testosterone deficiency. thank you for sharing!" Clearly somebody found it relatable. And it's not like I'm trying to impress anyone or put them on the edge of their seats in anticipation of the next thrilling twist. It's just a slice of life for whoever may care. If you don't, good for you. I hope you find something that does a better job of piquing your interest. I don't even know if I should address the testosterone deficiency bit. I guess I'll quickly say that I plan on doing it one day. Not wanting to procreate and not wanting to stick your penis into anything that it will fit into all day every day are two different things, buddy. "more ppl should know what it is like to not have the very urge to procreate that literally brought you into existence and was passed down through millennium to your genes since the dawn of man!" I too have the desire to keep my bloodline going. I just don't want to be a piece of meat that is literally only motivated to go from day to day by how many other pieces of meat I can perform biology with. When the time comes, I'll have lots of motivation, I'm sure. "good for you for not having a noticeable sex drive, hopefully you will die childless and not further your clearly defective genetics." Isn't that contradictory? I mean, you go from criticizing me for not procreating... to telling me that I shouldn't even dare think about procreating. Even if I did plan on dying without having kids, why even bother saying you hope that's the case? Isn't that like telling someone who said they want to die from a heartattack "well I hope you die from a heartattack"? And why do you want me to die a lonely death? Isn't that a little harsh for a guy that just said he didn't want to be passed around like a cheap prostitute? I didn't know that my not immediately acquiring as many illegitimate children as quickly as I could would bother you so much. "not trying to be insensitive, just speaking my mind, much love and we all die alone!" If that wasn't insensitive, then it'll do until the insensitive gets here. I'm kind of genuinely curious now if you actually think opinions like this won't make anyone uncomfortable? Like nobody will mind if you put a disclaimer at the end?

y’know the only way the Lois dialogue could’ve worked (and this is a really big if) is if they made that into an arc, like at first she dismisses the notion of Peter being harassed, like, “a man being raped? that’s quite unorthodox!”, but when she catches Angela trying to have her way with Peter, seeing Peter in agony? she realises “oh shit, maybe it was wrong of me to think this way”

Every single joke is so awkward, forced, drawn-out and out of place with the plot. The animation is bland and lazy, the artsyle is repetetive and boring, that one recurring voice actor with the high voice (usually does characters in cutaways) is fucking eargrading, the morals it tries to teach are, as you can see here, far left wing and outright scary, I could be here all day. To top it all off the only people who still watch it are preteens and or/shallow idiots.

There's actually a video game that tackles a subject similar to this. Not with men being sexually assaulted, but with the stereotype of dad's being abusive and mother's being wonderful, and this not always being the case. It's called, "Among the Sleep." It works from the pov of a 2 year old boy searching for his mother with the help of his teddy bear. They encounter a frightening creature as they do so. By the end of the story, It's revealed that the teddy bear was the boys father, and that the monster was his abusive mother. She would drink and hurt him, while his father wanted to just see his son happy. It may not deal with sexual harassment, but it does deal with the subject that not all mother's are kind to their children, and not all father's are abusive people to their kids. This is one of those sterotypes I hate in shows. Along with when a girl bullies you, that means she likes you, and how gay people were once portrayed on TV years ago as being very loud and "fabulous." This is one episode of Family Guy I always skip.

For me being a female and seeing all videos of men talking about how they got harrassed by a woman, Lois was being an idiot in this episode and like you said, I am surprised Lois was not shocked about what Angela did to Peter. By all these videos, I know no matter what gender you are, you could be harrassed at ANY gender. So women CAN sexually harrass a man. Also I wonder how Carrie Fisher (RIP) reacted when she had to say all of these lines. I wonder if she was disgusted or not. Anyways I am ending the comment here.

As a woman and a survivor of childhood incest (and rape), I HATE the misconception that men just "can't" get sexually harrassed or raped. Its a ridiculous and dangerous notion that should have been dismantled looooong ago. I know if I found out my partner/husband was being harrassed or he outright opened up about it to me, I'd both believe him 100% and get the person doing it to him reported IMMEDIATELY so it never happens again.

Like many things on Family Guy, South Park covered this kind of thing much better. When Kyle finds out his brother Ike is having sex with his teacher, he immediately tries to stop it. When he goes to the police, they don't listen to him, so he decides to take matters into his own hands. And thankfully instead of trying to make the teacher sympathetic, they kill her. Which is you ask me, is a much better thing to do.

No matter how much a villain tries to redeem themselves, it doesn't make up for all the horrible things they have done. But you can at least sympathize with them. A tragic backstory makes a villain a little bit easier to feel sorry for. Complete monsters who are just evil for the hell of it have little to no sympathetic value. But villains like Darth Vador and Jason vorhees can be understood as to why they turned evil. Evidently, it's hard to forgive a villain for all that they've done, but one could at least try to understand how they got the way they are.

Would you sympathize with, for instance, a child molester who tried to use that excuse?

I'm not sure if my harasser was fired or if he stayed, even though there were many other younger women working the same job. I was the one who had to switch locations and not only was it embarrassing and uncomfortable to talk about, I just felt... plain dehumanized. Looking back it was scary as hell and I don't know what it would've been like if I didn't say anything. It's 100% ok to make an episode trying to portray sexual assault in a realistic way no matter who is the giver/who is the victim but it's insulting how little they seemed to care or take this seriously

It's not just some feminist thing. The idea of men always wanting sex goes back centuries, literally centuries. It basically originated during the 1700s, where the idea of the hedonistic "libertine" arose as basically hedonistic young men who opposed social mores and...well, if the name "Marquis de Sade" means anything to you, you know where this is going. The idea of the male, especially young males, being obsessed with sex was popularised then (although the general concept of men being horny beasts dates back millennia). In a modern sense, the libidos of men being greater than that of women has been accepted since at least the 50s (where it was considered normal for men to have sex before marriage but disgusting if a women did). It's a stereotype propagated by men and women and while it's gotten a little better (specifically, it's no longer considered /as/ acceptable to let men off with sex crimes as a result of "boys will be boys") it's still a really shitty assumption.
@UltimatePerfection

@paperbackwriter1111
@paperbackwriter1111 8 жыл бұрын
Raptor Cell Lol, that stereotype is actually a problem of the same gender roles feminists dislike. If female sexuality is supposed to be subdued and submissive, men's sexuality is supposed be agressive and overflowing. It's probably connected with fertility myths seen even among greek gods - wanting to bang constantly is just a sign of a true man. This is part of what is often summarized under "toxic masculinity", ergo shitty aspects of tradional masculinity, although I don't like that term, since it can be misunderstood as a condemnation of masculinity as a whole, which it isn't, lot's of traditionally masculine ideals are great. This one isn't though, since in gets absorbed into notions like the idea that all men must want sex always, which is harmful as it makes those who don't believe something's wrong with them and because it leads to sexual assault on men being shrugged off...

In one episode when Peter didn't want to have love with Lois because he is abstinent, she forced herself onto him and we see him clearly not enjoying it as he is crying and suffering from what Lois is doing to him. If I remember correctly, this was the episode that aired in place of the banned Partial Terms of Endearment. So, apparently a solemn episode about abortion is not good enough to air according to the FCC, but an episode where a male character is sexually harassed, and the harrasser weasels out of discipline by threatening to kill herself for pity is AOK. Let that fucking sink in.

From a story perspective, I just thought of a way to fix this episode: First and foremost, take a much less complicated approach to this subject matter. Instead of trying to tackle sexual harassment, make it more of a sympathy story about Angela. About how she hasn't had a boyfriend in 10 years, and she feels lonely. Then you shorten the filler at the beginning with Peter by just having Peter get his glasses broken through a clumsy accident that Peter had. Or better yet, a fight with the Chicken. Then we come to the point where Angela notices Peter with no glasses, and she gets a crush on him. Instead of trying to openly sexually harass Peter, though, she tries to hide it and tries desperately to keep a professional relationship with Peter. Then Angela asks Peter out for dinner some night and even offers to pay. Angela comes out about having the hots for Peter, and Peter feels awkward about this. In the meeting at the Clam, Joe and Quagmire tell Peter he should just stand up for his principles, be honest with Angela about not liking her, and then go from there. It of course plays out, and then Angela gets depressed, and even tries to kill herself like in the episode. She then tells her sad story, so Peter tries to help Angela out, Quagmire agrees to be a trooper in the end and sleep with Angela, and then the two of them become a canon couple.

Sometimes questionable I realized about this episode is how it treats abusers compared to Screams Of Silence. Both Jeff and Angela are shown to be abusive, Jeff in a violent way and Angela in a sexual way. However, the difference is that Screams Of Silence wants us to hate Jeff and even killed him off, but this episode wants us to feel bad for Angela because "she was lonely, uwu😢😢😢". Ngl, I think between Angela and Quagmire, Family Guy has an obsession with trying to make us feel bad for rapists(Which are people we should never feel worry for). If the guys who wrote Family Guy wrote Persona 5, I bet they would make Kamoshida into a "sympathetic guy who was abused and lonely" despite the rapes he's done. Or maybe they would make a Christmas episode where they make us feel bad that Griffith doesn't have anyone to celebrate christmas with.

Both those characters make me uncomfortable, but at least in the source material they were portrayed as monsters, cause they were. But like John later said, if they did Hunchback of Notre Dame, they'd try to make us feel bad that Frollo couldn't get a date. Aaaand don't even get me started on Homelander or Megamind's Snotty Kid. I don't know how Carrie Fisher felt about her character being portrayed this way but they did her a real disservice regardless.

That scene at the garage was rather uncomfortable to me. Remember how you said with One Coarse Meal how some people in reality who are tormented by a stalker do take their lives and how it was portrayed in a careless way? I think it's even worse here. Angela is trying to get herself killed in a realistic way because she was unsuccessful at being a sexual predator? Here's my take on it: There's a part in Watch Dogs 2 where someone tries to suffocate himself in the garage in the same way, and he had a sympathetic reason to try taking his own life, but I saved him cause I wanted to give him a chance to make things better. Were that person Angela, I'd be more uncertain of helping them.

Yeah, one thing Enter constantly does is say something isn't funny or isn't a joke, and a lot of times he's wrong. Being gay isn't a joke. Being told you're gay when you don't want to be, is. It's called "teasing." We've been doing it for a long time now and not just to homosexuals. The joke stops being funny when someone is proud of what they are.

Another thing I realize about this episode that I don’t think I see get talked about often: Peter figuring out he’s been sexually harassed is out of character for him. Remember Peter falsely thought Dr Hartman was harassing him when he was giving him a prostate exam. It would’ve worked better here if Peter simply recognized he was being treated better by his boss whose approval he wanted and Lois was the one to point out he was being sexually harassed. Maybe instead of angela threatening with firing him she offers a promotion in exchange for sex, and then you have the scene with him and quagmire, and then quagmire bailing on sex is what snaps peter to reality? There’s a better way to handle this plot without majorly changing the story.
@gem_b7798
@gem_b7798 Ай бұрын
The episode where Peter gets a prostate exam at least implies that he didn't consent to the exam in the first place, and at most paints it into a situation that it wasn't. It's a real problem that people experience, especially SA survivors, so the fact that prostate exams and pap smears are mandatory is stupid, and there are plenty of alternatives that are far more effective.

I became a Feminist (or whatever ya'll want to call a guy who is behind your cause, I don't mind which title) specifically because of this kind of backwards thinking. I want equality between the sexes, not favoritism. Painting all women as fragile vases who must be protected by all the men is insulting to women (blanket statements are rude) and insulting to men too (because there are many men out there who could use that kind of treatment too). I've been rewiring my brain to remove the implications of the gender of someone I just met and have been evaluating them by actions, speech, and other parts of their lives than their X and Y chromosomes. I don't care what your gender is. If you want to become a professional archer, go for it. If you want to stay at home and bake cakes, can I have some? And if you have been raped, I don't care who did it to you, be they man, woman, alien, or child. All I care about is avenging my friend.

robert hebert "Modern Feminism" doesn't exist. It's like saying "Modern Christianity." There's, like, eleventy-seven different flavors of Feminism, each divided as to what the cause of the problem is, what problems are most serious, and how to respond to those problems. We're all divided under one flag, and it kinda sucks, but there is one thing we can agree on. To quote TV Tropes: "Women who seriously blame men for everything are known to academics as 'misandrists,' to readers of this wiki as Straw Feminists, and to mainstream modern feminists, if there is such a thing, as 'wrong.'" More (fun and lighthearted, if educational) reading here: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UsefulNotes/Feminism On the list presented, I guess I'm a Liberal Feminist. My reason for joining begins and ends with assumptions about what members of both sexes "can and cannot" do on account of their gender. I don't care where it started or who started it. I want to end it. Thank you for your time.

***** Correct, Milo. "Triggered" is not a light term. People who suffer from actual triggers, people who suffer from PTSD and other mental illnesses, are not to be mocked, glorified, romanticized, or otherwise treated as anything other than what they are, and they are normal people who are sick and hurt and need to be treated with care and respect. I wouldn't balk at a sign outside a roller coaster advising people with injuries and pregnancies to not go on the ride. The ride could hurt them. Same with people with triggers. I'm not interested in peeling open mental scabs and tearing stitches to invite infection. Too bad the internet doesn't consider _anything_ off-limits.

Red Dragon Triggered is a fine word to use. I wouldn't use it in front of someone with PTSD. I'd use it for an annoying sjw to mock them. I believe offensive humor is fine and you can make jokes about most thinhs. I'm not sure what would be off limits. I wouldn't tell the jokes with people whoj might get offended by them. I truly dislike limiting people's creativity and thinking because someone wants to protect someone or a group from being offended. This is the reason why people dislike stupid concepts like cultural appropriation because they limit expression.
