The writers originally planned to reveal it in a second season but seeing that people were confused about it they clarified that each of Andvari's weapons have a different curse. Hervor's curse was that it wouldn't fulfill her dying wish which was to go to Valhalla and meet her sons and Sigrid's curse was different and she couldn't kill the one she wanted to kill with her weapon, like that was her specific curse. Hel even says "Antler will have it's outcome". It could have been better explained in the show itself but that's how it is

Just have the dwarf say these weapons are cursed but the form of the curse molds to the individual so we have no idea what's gonna happen if you use it. Then later it gets revealed what Sigrids curse is. Not the bs that we actually got which was it will take your soul. Which for Sigrid is not true.

Well, clearly this animation is supposed to be for Metal fans, not only to Myth fans. The valkyries been nude and mute, are totally 80's Metal. Sigrid and the way that valkirie acted toward her, is clearly a reference to Sigurd and Brunhilde, from Ring of the Nibelungs,. The blood bath, turned into armor, is another Sigurd reference, but they changed the origin of the blood. The rest is partially inspired by Volsung Saga, Werewolves and dragons included, and partially Ragnarok. I really liked the Vanir, as older gods, representing nature aspects and seasons quite literally. The half naked gods are on point too, referring classical paintings, Baldr been invulnerable doesn'r need armor, and Thor is a hedonist . I like to remember to myself that Norse Mythology was based on oral tradition and songs, and only written centuries later by christian monks, so everything is already an adaptation of old stories and folk tales with a Christian sauce. And that song of Thor was really weird, I agree.

I also like how Loki reveals his role as a scapegoat god, always being blamed for every horrible thing people have done. He pretends to be an irredeemable villain driven by greed and jealousy, but that's to hide his true intentions of sparing his children from death.

The show has some questionable character motivations when it comes to the main MC and the rest of her party/group Feels like a lot of the problems in this show could have just been solved by the characters just sitting around and talking to each other or maybe having Loki reveal his true motivations to the MC way earlier in the first episode.

I didn't like Thor's portrayal, as he was one-dimensionally evil. But did I enjoy Snyder's take on Loki. Very creepy, cunning, but somewhat tragic. After suffering through MCU's poor excuse for Loki for years, I'm glad to finally see a version of Loki in popular media that's like the original sources.
@FirstnameLastname-my7bz2 ай бұрын
Well, but that perspective on Thor was literally from PoV of giants. Essentially it is same as first solo Thor movie first battle except you see it from different perspective. And also perspective was always in Zack Snyder films. "Magic" described by Leonidas in 300 and with Whole battle actually being a Tale of a half blind Spartan in the first place. Entire Sucker Punch film which turns out to get inverted in the end with made up character interacting with another made up character making them both "real". Tornado scene in Man of Steel wasn't really a flashback, but Lois' thoughts on how it happened as Clark was telling her. "Beautiful lie" from BvS, Bruce wasn't really lifted by the swarm of bats. Also there was no telling what happened Before Thor came to that wedding or maybe On the wedding he was somehow additionally influenced. If he was truly one dimensional he would instantly kill Sigrid at least on two occasions.

Loki’s characterization was great to me. Thor I’m mixed on.. he was one dimensional in many aspects, but they at least hinted that he’s a little more layered, with how he broke down after Baldur’s death for example, or how iirc he did briefly give Sigurd an offer during their first direct confrontation to not kill her in some sense that she denied, out of respect for her iirc. That said they definitely made him a total piece of work. I can understand it bothering people from certain aspects of accuracy and things like that, however I’m fine with it with it in mind that he is intended to be a very hatable antagonist, and man did they make it easy for me to hate him through and through. Loki I very well enjoyed the characterization of. Many layers that stays true to various interpretations of him(the more cruel interpretations and the more sympathetic interpretations that they managed to somehow juggle into one effectively).

In some takes of Norse Myth, people view Ragnarök or events of Norse Myth as the death of Norse Myth, where it actively leads into Christianity. So this show seems to be adapting the idea that Norse Mythology will die out as the world shifts to Christianity, which is what technically happened in real life as well

@@FirstnameLastname-my7bz dude, the reason 70% of his shit fails or underperforms is cuz he essentially shoots himself in the foot with his writing decisions. He has interesting ideas that he fails to execute because of his quest to “not be like others”; that was his entire superhero run, and his original ips like his Star Wars pitch rework and girl power movie that happens in the character’s mind

God of war sorta ruined thor for me lmao. Every time I see him now I sorta half expect the big gut strong man physique, it's such a strong and logical form for the character. Either way, Thor is definitely the weakest link in this. They went to great lengths to make him irredeemable, but I think the show suffers for that, with something slightly more nuanced probably resulting in a better narrative. Loki is given both good and evil traits, baldr is perhaps indifferent, and Odin isn't entirely off what I'd expect from the character honestly. Just seems odd that the god of thunder would be so irrevocably evil.

IDK if you're looking for recommendations, but there's a really neat norse mythology comic called 'Gunhild' by Fred Tornager about a young fire jotun and her quest to become a god.

18:33 yeah, that was silly Along with final battle ie with Thor NOT just solo 99% and then solo the rest 1% (fully based on episode 1 showcase) Or how they were fighting and then Valhalla warriors came down and they were like "hey, we are breaching the Asgard wall, right? Why not go completely into opposite direction" and as if almost completely ignored Asgard guards which Weren't that fierce but still weren't just droids from Star Wars either. Rebel Moon which was More written by Zack Snyder showed much better logistics and logic of the battle. In fact it is one of The best mass battles in history of cinema, from logic standpoint and that everything made sense most of the time (ignoring obvious plot armor of main characters ofc)

On the other hand. And it's not shilling for TotG but more of a context. I saw a version that Zeus and other Greek gods "were actually" (" " Because I never lived back there and I am not a Greek, and I barely even know native religion of my people as it is, and people lying about stuff that happened yesterday despite overwhelming video+audio evidence) just metaphor for kings. Therefore all of these gods superpower = just a guy that has judiciary power order controlling army/nuke, so like he Can throw thunderbolt at you but not every time and not very often he can do that "publicly" Which is what makes Superman and other classic original superheroes a 180° of this paradigm, they are just 1 person and anonymous one and they can use their powr. They don't need to have any favor with power that Be like Greek Heroes had to.

It's edgy teenage Nors Mythology. Lots of horniness and super dark. Also for the wolf thing. There's this weird plot thread that doesn't go anywhere where the witch powers up by releasing memories from the wolf man that boil down to "I ate a baby". I think the wolf ate a human child and felt bad about it so he pretended to be the child and that's the wolf man. But then for the final battle it stops pretending and takes on a more wolfish form. I liked that. It was kind of confusing but I think made more sense once he transformed.

My favorite character from the myths is Jormungandr and I was really excited how they gonna implement him in the story . But i was disappointed beyond belief, why make him a humanoid girl and let him be fucked by his arch enemy and leave Fenrir unchanged? Literally nothing would change if he was just a cool kaiju snake , don't get me wrong I liked the actual snake design and the series overall but that Jormungandr stuff really pissed me off

Why did Sigrid give a f*ck that Baldur died? The dude literally pulled a Dr. Manhattan and watched as Thor massacred her entire family and clan when he COULD have absolutely stopped him if he'd wanted to. The characters are so bad when you actually analyze their actions. Why did Thor go to the Jotnar in search of Loki? Why was he looking for Loki? Why was that entire plot irrelevant? Loki is literally chilling within a few blocks of Thor's house half the time, and besides that ONE time the plot needed Thor to, for whatever reason SERIOUSLY search for Loki in mad rage, he just goes about his life like nothing happened. Nothing makes sense. I sat there at the end telling myself, "this is why you have not watched any TV shows since 2021! why did you bother with this?!"... Genuinely, I was confused. Besides Thor's uniquely portrayed abilities, I found no fights that interested me especially during the war where you'd think the fights would be epic. All you get is Loki killing the dwarf, Viking king guy being attacked and dumped, Goldie dying in place of Thor because his unhappy wife asked to keep him alive for a bit longer, Groot and his people fight alongside Loki the same guy who poisoned and killed many of their people, Freya sends away Thor when she had him dead to rights even though he killed Groot and we know she had been planning to kill him with Loki, naked valkyries swoop down and take Sigrid who Loki kills because??? Second season needs to happen, I guess? It's just terrible.

I think this should've just been a limited series with Thor dying in the end. There is a reason Ragnarok had to happen. The old gods were cruel and unjust and viewed themselves to be above all other races. That's why their time had to come to an end. Dragging that out just seems pointless.

I feel like sex/gor = "adult"show in the eies of modern filmmakers and I find it more childish the ennything. Atleast in the way its dun like it can be in your show if it has a reason in the story but most of the time its just there for shock value ore to say "look how adult we are we" . Its just a personally to me a trope i wat to end
@NaquanGreen-zt4grАй бұрын
@S-cape-goat Really gets annoying most definitely at how they handle mythology by throwing in a bunch of sex/gor = "adult" show and naively believe that the show is a success even though it isn't/wasn't Shows like Vikings and the lost kingdom have been criticized for its handling of Norse mythology and Vikings, most notably the recent spin-off of Vikings and the lost kingdom Norse mythology has never been handled very well by Hollywood or TV in general, most if not all of the showrunners and directors don't really read Norse mythology to understand or get any of the characters in Norse mythology Twilight of the gods is one if not one of the most notable recent examples, Snyder didn't even direct or write most of the episodes as this series had four to five different writers Most notable one being jay olivia, a writer on previous DC animated movies and let's just say his previous work at WB animations for most of if not all of the DC animated movies weren't very good Previous writing credits matter and determine if a show/movie is good or not.
