Another great video, I read your book recommendation "The comfort Crisis" by Michael Easter before I did your Misogi last year. I try to practice what you're saying in my daily life. I recently started a new job and I'm having to readjust my physical exercise habits. I sometimes feel guilty but I know I only need to find time to get some form physical exercise done everyday. I must try a wild camp with minimum gear soon. Please keep up your great work💯👊

After this video I feel like shit. I am 26 years old, I am a middle frontend developer. I got married this year. I have been trying to get in shape for a very long time. I have problems with self-esteem at work, because despite my position at work, I am a pretty weak specialist and constantly feed myself with arguments like (I already work 8 hours a day, write this damn code, this should be enough) and at the same time I am always unhappy that I play games after work and do not exercise enough. Two people have always fought inside me, one tried to prove to me that I do not need to leave my comfort zone, I can achieve everything and comprehend spiritual zen, the second screams like crazy in my head that I should really work hard every single day and maybe take a break from this someday. After your video I really lost the power of speech and I am ashamed of who I am at the moment. I just found your channel today and I already understand how right you are, if you, from the height of your experience and honorable age, are in such physical and spiritual shape, then I too will turn off the inner whiner and infantile personality in order to become stronger every day. Thank you, SIR. I will always leave my comfort zone from this minute!

Finally carved out time for uncomfortable activities later this month!! Last time I did one, I loved it so much (once I was home!) I now have an excited/fearful feeling of expectation for what's coming up. There's a % of my brain that's already making up excuses before I even get out there and another % telling me how much I'll love it😝It's certainly invigorated my training. The unwelcome difficulty is different from seeking out uncomfortable challenges, yet the latter somehow makes the former more manageable. Thanks so much for all the quality, practically helpful wisdom you share.

The percentage of waking time a boy has with a masculine man is lower now than ever .I've found the less time spent with a male role model as a boy the less self discipline that boy has as a man . If our culture could somehow nationally increase the amount of waking time with a responsible male model to a higher amount of boys then these negative "spoilt" traits will decrease. Just my opinion, but I'm sure its shared by many .

The mordern woke western society where Feminism and the lgbt is put on a pedestal and masculinity is seen as toxic is one of the greatest problems are mordern society is struggling with right now. And I agree with everything you say but there are intelligent men and women out there challenging the new society norm ie Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan and you may of heard of her Pearl from Pearl things these are just a few I listen too. There's hope out there for the younger generations to reconnect with nature and to challenge themselves.

I used to have a girlfriend who suffered from depression and her well-meaning parents responded by doing everything for her, to the point where they were pouring out her cereal for her every morning, and she had no idea how to cook for herself. The consequence was she got much worse, until she was nearly catatonic.

100% agree with this. I have a theory that pain is more valuable in hindsight than comfort. My favorite memories are the ones that were hell to live through. I grew up in the Cederberg mountains of South Africa where the nearest town was a two hour drive on dirt roads and we regularly had to slaughter our livestock for food. That just does not exist here in the UK, and I really miss it. To make up for it, I like to spend weekends out camping without any food, and that does it for me. I take a fishing rod with and scrounge for what I can and normally get by alright. Worst case, it's a couple days without food, no biggie.

So when people ask me, how can you live like that & how comes you always look Happy, I replied. I've just told you. Wish I could afford a few things, solar generator, gravity water hub, some long range walkie talkies, but I can't, no one will employ me because of my seizures & people in charge use the fact that I was naughty when I was young to give me the bare minimum to live on. I take one day at a time, try & do positive things for other people each day & I don't worry about tomorrow, until tomorrow arrives. It's getting harder as I'm getting older, I'm 53 now & believe it's the way I've been living that's kept me young, in other words. THATS LIFE. Be LUCKY. Ta ta.😉🇬🇧🌍🐝🌴🌊

I'm still helping people out who can't help themselves, driving people to hospital for Cancer care, do there shopping, pick up there medication, hoover out there car's ECT, my key workers say I'm a walking contradiction, on paper I'm one thing, but on the day, I'm a kind hearted individual that can help people without question, I don't like rude people & people who have no respect for the elderly, they are the foundation of this country & I will put myself in harm's way to make sure they are protected, with no thought about myself, but like I said, the hands of time stand still for no Being & I'm wondering if my luck will turn, so I can help & be there for the people I care about right up to the next life, there is so much more to the story that is my life that I have achieved in the name of survival, surly I deserve some of the kindness I've given, returned to me or maybe my path is set, I'm great full to be able to have experienced all the things I have & still be alive to tell the story, it makes me laugh about some of the things I've got away with in the name of survival, but it kept me on the dark path & even tho I've helped lots of people along the way, think I deserve to walk the rest of the way in the light, but think life will have other plans, could do with a break for a couple of year's, THE LORD HIMSELF KNOWS I'VE TRIED. Hello mate, thank you very much for sending this. It can be really tough when you first leave and take a decent amount of time to adjust BUT you will get there. When I felt lost after leaving what really helped was to put a lot of effort into trying to rediscover that purpose. I kept asking myself the questions "Who do I want to be? How do I want my life to look?" - It took a few months of doing this multiple times a day and uses a notebook to keep scribbling down ideas to put me back onto a path where I had some clear goals. Mindset is a skillset and things like purpose require active work, it won't just happen. Awesome work on getting out into the forest. If you add in internal work like this I mentioned and keep up those external activities you will see a positive difference. I'd also recommend getting the book Atomic Habits by James Clear mate.

I always assumed if you had 22 SAS or SBS on your CV,, life after the military would mean the world and all it has to offer would open itself up to you. Clearly, that is not always the case. SF members are also human beings and I think people need to remember that. I spent the day on a North Sea oil rig and assisted C Sqn (I think) SBS with a maritime CT ex' in 2002 and really enjoyed my interaction with these humble, laid back, intelligent, quitely confident, funny and kind men of all shapes and sizes. I also had a mate who was with 22, skinny as a rake and a really lovelly man. I was also blown away by the stunning achievements of Nims Purja and the moving story of Tobias Gutteridge, both ex SBS lads, of course which I found to very inspirational and deeply moving. I think for most of us in the military, leaving causes all sorts of issues, even for men such as yourself operating at the highest level possbile. I saved money, went to college and traiend to be a counsellor (after 10 years as Samaritan) and though my life was sorted when finally left at a relatively young age of 37. WRONG! Nothing really panned out. What we do in the military despite what we are told, is not really fully recongnized outside. I was in charge of people, millions of ponds worth of assets including Tornado aircraft with proven leadership and maagment skills. It all means F all. My carreer post RAF never really took off. I worked with children in residential settings for a while but most staff just wanted to be the kids mate to get an easy life and didn't really want to do the hard work of developing them. I got fired. Went on a downer. To cut a long story short, I am now living in Sourh Carolina as a naturalized US citizen working as an Armed Response Officer at a nuclear facility. It doesn't really fulfill me. The rotating 12 hour shifts. 15 hour days (travel distance) overtime, chronic staff shortages and more unsuitable people being hired (obease, lazy) is making me miserable, perpetually tired and unfit. 2 marriages, 2 new countries later (Canada and now the US) an unhappy childhood and no real achievement at school often makes me think that I am a failure in life and, as a result, become absolutely weighed down with self doubt. I have an offer working as a non armed probation officer with kids in the justice system, making a difference, close to home, no shift work, but am scared shitless that it will not work out again. I am debt free and my pesnion will increase in 2 years when I reach 55, but I am riddled with fear to make this transition at my age in case it goes to shit. I need to make a decision soon. I know only I can do that. Your videos are clearly about such dilemmas. Your story when you left Poole is quite inspiring and surprising for someone of your caliber and background. Thanks for your uploads. Please don't join the team on 'SAS Who Dares Wins' or write a book. I think you may be above that! (Just kidding...well, maybe not about the TV show!) Cheers Garry Harriman. South Carolina RAF Retired 🇬🇧🇺🇸

Can't doing workout indoors daily and having a disciplined schedule for our time give us the same feeling of discomfort and hence overall health, discipline, clarity and productivity we seek? Must one really have to go camping outdoors routinely? In my own opinion, I think this is only essential for the purpose of Retreats (A mindfulness exercise), Recreation or Military training.

Very good thoughts! Thank you! By the way, going to the wilderness with an armory masterpiece doesn't sound like a true difficulty. Real difficulty begins once the life is in danger and that's the opposite of what evolution wanted. So...there is no real right solutions to the questions you are asking yourself, my friend.

It’s not about putting yourself in danger. That’s counterproductive to an extent. It’s about building some element of discomfort into your life, and for some people that’s cold shower for others it’s base jumping. Thanks for watching.

It's very cool that you are military trained, you are well equipped to survive and hunt. Be realistic thou, most of society does not think your way, have any survival skills or guns. So how do you expect normal people to live outside and copy you? I guess camping would be a happy medium 😀
@thenaturaledge Жыл бұрын
Hey Joe, yeah the point isn't to repeat this, it's more the principle which could be as simple as reducing screen time and leaving your jacket at home when you take the dog for a walk. It's small shifts that are powerful.

You don't need to be Bear Grylls, the point of the video is the principle not copying the actions exactly. it could be as simple as spending less time on your phone 👍
