I’m honestly so tired of this hypersexual rap wave. It doesn’t really feel like we’ve progressed that far beyond the point where only one female rapper could succeed at a time. Now more female rappers can succeed but only if they make vapid, overly sexualized music for people who are really passive about hip hop and music in general. Obviously there are other female rappers out there who make vastly different music than this but I don’t think they’re given the same amount of recognition by the industry. At least men are allowed to succeed regardless of whether they take the vapid or deeper route creatively. And obviously there’s nothing wrong with making sexual music if that’s what you wanna make, but that shouldn’t be the only lane where women in rap are allowed to succeed and frankly I don’t think the passion is there for many of these artists. Feels more like they’re just chasing the bag which is fine but it doesn’t result in good art.

I definitely feel like there’s some validity in this point. Yes, it’s nice that more female rappers are succeeding and undoubtedly successful in the current hip-hop landscape. However they are/will become pigeon held to this expectation of what their lyrical content should be in order to be successful. I do not have problems with sexual content in songs but I hope that this doesn’t become the only viable avenue to success as a female rapper. (Obviously there have been others in the past, but right now the new acts are reaching a large audience that is more than strictly rap fans).

I agree Rap is so far behind every other genre when it comes to female artists being able to be successful rapping about anything other than their "ass" or beating up other "bitches." Sadly, rappers like Tierra Whack, Noname, Rapsody, Che Noir, and Lil Simz will never see the mainstream success they deserve due to how the industry treats them for not conforming.

That’s not where I’m at, I just wish women in rap had a more even playing field. This is irrelevant but here is an Essay on why Chris Brown ranks higher than Frank Ocean on an all time great list Quality AND Quantity matter, Jay Z and Nas are perfect examples of this, although I loved Fortune by Chris, I admit Channel Orange deserved its Grammy, however Frank only has 2 Albums meanwhile Chris has been giving us great Albums for 20 years, his debut is one of the best R&B Albums of the 2000s, as is Exclusive, F.A.M.E, Fortune and X are some of the best R&B and Electropop Albums of the early 2010s, Chris has classics we all grew up on like "Forever" and "With You". He has coming of age songs, love Classics, Trap bangers, EDM bangers, Club classics, he's done it all, Frank can't be held incthe same regard as Chris, Usher, or Abel, he only has 2 Albums and hasn't dominated like those 3 have at their.peaks Why do you think Nas and Jay Z are ranked above Jay Electronica? Why do you think Prince ranks higher than a D'anegelo on an all timer list? Quality AND Quantity matters, Prince was making Masterpieces every year We also can't forget that Chris Brown is YOUNGER than Frank, Chris has done it all, given his fans a huge catalog full of classics meanwhile Frank has wasted his prime years and left his fans starving for nearly a whole Decade, Frank has 2 Albums at the age of 36 going on 37. Well, this seems to be the end of the road for Ice Spice (for now). She had a good run for what started out as a Meme and I honestly think she has a genuine mature side like not starting or falling for unecessary beef with Nicki or handling being compared to someone with down syndrome with grace and compassion (which most Rappers can not say the same). I just think at the end of the day she needed different producers and a bit more help (Her team still seems to think this is WORLDSTARHIPHOP and not for a wider audience). This will be hard to recover from, it honestly starts with the Y2K Logo on the trash can...why would you ever green light this? Those small quality control issues pile up and well, cause everything to be kind of a fart. Too bad.

Ice Spice and Riot USA lead the way with the jersey / drill bouncy vibes n my fav track on this lp didnt even get mentioned which is "bbbelt" as it is super ominous and spacious and kinda like the sequel to "deli" which is my fav ice spice song. today's pop music is immediate and often sparse and i think this song does that very well. Its not lyrically interesting but the beat and her vocal tone hits hard for me

Doesn't a 4 for anthony mean just below mediocre? I guess I can agree with that. But, this album felt flat af ngl. I guess the 'uthinkutheshit' song was at least funny, somewhat catchy, and entertaining, but what other tracks even hit close to that one, which already was just decent. Ultimately, a low score is a low score. So, I get it on some level.

I constantly find myself surprised she’s managed to drag her “career” out this long. The only worthwhile song she’s done was the pinkpantheress remix. She can’t rap well, she has nothing to rap about, she’s not all that engaging on the mic, and she was already being self-referential after her second or this post-Munch single. I truly don’t think she even expected to reach this point. For all its faults, “Munch” felt genuine, but it also felt like something for her crew and her hood, and once it caused her to blow up, I think she quickly started to realize she’s not really built for this. And if she hasn’t yet, she’s in denial, because it doesn’t even seem like anyone actually likes her music at this point. They just tune in to laugh at her.
