Gothic 1 (2001) has an unusual control scheme that is often criticized for being clunky, unintuitive, or straight up broken, with its tank-like movements and needing to combine direction keys with the action button to perform basically every function in the game. This can lead some people to feeling frustrated and quitting the game before even leaving the starting area. Although this system does take some getting used to at first, I find that it's actually pretty fluid and responsive once you understand how it works, and actually has some hidden benefits to the immersion that you don't necessarily get with more conventional, streamlined controls. While certainly not completely free of imperfections, Gothic 1's controls never posed any serious issue for my enjoyment, and I believe them to be much better than their reputation.
