@Dt Mt The opposing elements being difficult is a personality thing. Aang is an Airbender both by birth and in personality so he naturally has more trouble with the solid and stubborn Earthbending. Korra might be a Waterbender by birth, but as far as personality goes she's more like an Earthbender (stubborn, grounded, and puts practical above spiritual & abstract) than any other element, so she'd naturally have the most trouble with Airbending. How did you come to the conclusion that it was bullshit? I don't see the dots you were connecting.

People got the power of the elements from the lion turtles but learned how to control them from the various creatures like dragons. Future generations of people had the power of a single element in their genes and they learned to use them from the animals like badger moles.

So on normal days, the worlds are separated and very few spirits can travel between them, like Hei Bai. On the solstice, the line that divides spirits and physical worlds is blurred, allowing some passageway for spirits. On Harmonic Convergence, that's when the spirit world and physical world are fully merged until it's over.

Did you know Wan can mean 10 000 (万) in Chinese? So at the same time, Wan is 1 and 10 000; it's a pun in two languages. Also, I wanted to reiterate that lion turtles, through their innate ability to energy bend, artificially gave humans the ability to bend. However, dragons, air bison, the moon, and badger moles are born with the innate ability to bend fire, air, water, and earth, respectively. The humans that left the backs of the lion turtles with the ability to bend passed the ability down through their genetics, but the techniques used to control them were only taught by the original bending animals (and the moon). That's how people like Oma and Shu and the Sun Warriors created great civilisations: because they learned proper bending from animals and used the elements as extensions of their body to perform great feats, rather than using the elements as rudimentary tools.

In hindsight, yes, but at the time ATLA first aired, this whole lore didn't even exist. It's more likely that they created it around such things so that it would fit and have a deeper meaning. I think originally it was just a reference to the fact that his past lives had to go through mastering the elements too and so Aang could do it as well. Also, since we've only actually seen a couple of Avatars, it's definitely possible that another Avatar had already been in a similar situation and managed to succeed (apart from Wan).

S0urc3C0de It’s confirmed by the creators that they had the idea for Wan’s origin floating around at least as early as Book 2 of A:TLA. They just didn’t know how to put it into the story, so they brought it back up in LoK. You start to see them hinting towards it in “The Library” when Aang shows Sokka a book with a picture of a Lion Turtle in it.

Although I could be seeing things and it could be a long shot but the island does look in the shape of a lion turtles back. I mean it’s pretty rounded like the one in ATLA. And I saw one person that commented on how the camera stopped right on that island as if hinting that it was a lion turtle.

Kanza actually, if you look at a ton of the comments on this video, here and on Patreon, there are people complaining that these two episodes "ruined the lore" and are "terrible retcons". So my comment was specifically a reaction to that. I think Season 2 was definitely flawed, and is my least favorite season of Korra. But the amount of hate that Korra (the show and the character) gets is not earned. The show and characters both have flaws, but they're still great, and I think the comparisons to ATLA are based more on nostalgia than on objective criticism. Avatar is one of my favorite shows ever, but Season 1 has a lot of filler, and the pacing is uneven in all 3 seasons, Aang makes a lot of terrible and selfish decisions, not just in Season 1 (like in Bato) but even in season 3 (kissing Katara when she had just essentially told him not to). Both Aang and Korra have flaws. It's what makes them relatable and realistic

Each Avatar has their own version of the "Avatar Music", its all the same, just different versions 2.The battlefield that Avatar Wan died in was the same field that Zuko went through in the episode called Zuko Alone in The Last Airbender 3. The rest were going to be mentioned, but the normies figured them out legit right after the video ended, smart ppl

This episode always makes me wonder if Aang eventually connected with Raava directly. Something tells me all fully-realized avatars do, at some point in their life. Talk about a friendship that lasts lifetimes! Can you imagine how much Raava must love her avatar that she keeps finding them over and over for tens of thousands of years? Gets to watch them grow and learn, reconnect with the universe and with her, and then has to say goodbye all over again... Ok now I made myself cry gdi

Nothing wrong with Chris. It's just that in the first few Last Airbender episodes he gave away vital information that the other four should have discovered by themselves. It's just a nerdy thing nerds do in the presence of other nerds, it's understandable. Except for Static 1x1. That was unforgivable.

This episode always makes me cry, and the music when he becomes Avtar too, it's just...so epic and emotional and Wan is hands down my favourite Avatar like I do love Aang and Roku and Korra but Wan takes first place. Like Raava said he was so selfless and protective and, and in the end, wise and determined to make up for his mistakes from day one, and so willing to sacrifice everything and even die for Raava and the world.

*Raava and Vaatu can never truly destroy each other. Remember this fact for future usage.* The more I re-watch Beginnings 1 and 2, the more awesome it gets! So much lore is established! Hell, you even see the origins of the Fire Nation, with Wan's old friends showing less respect to the spirits and seeing that the best solution to any problem is to burn it. (*EDIT* Yes, that was a reference to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Abridged). Speaking of the Fire Nation, I think it's neat how they revealed that the Fire Nation had been secretly preserving the species that were native to the Air Nomad temples. Also, Rana really called the future of Book 2's plot, with the revelation that the spirit portals had been closed by Wan, and Unalaq being hellbent on reopening them.

Well, that explains the Avatar Cycle in terms of Elemental Order. It cycles in the same order that Wan acquired the Elements - after Fire, he acquired Air, so after Roku, we had Aang. And after Air, he acquired Water, so after Aang, we got Korra.

Wan's story does NOT break continuity 1) The Lion turtles didn't give people the ability to bend it was the animals? - No it wasn't the lion turtles gave Aang the ability to energy bend and similarly can give others the power to bend other elements. However they cannot bend these elements themselves. ("The era before the Avatar we bend not the elements but the enrgy within ourselves"). Therefore they wern't the original benders but the Badger moles, Dragons, Moon Spirit and Bisons were. They then taught the humans how to bend. (We even see Wan learn from a dragon how to properly bend). Those prior to this who didn't learn from a dragon can't bend properly the just jab fire out. (When they see Wan bend they even say "the way Wan bends fire its like nothing i've ever seen before he bends it as if it were an extension of himself"). Then when the lion turtles leave at the end bending occurs naturally from biology those who already have the element pass it down from generation to generation and are taught by the Badger Moles, Dragons, Moon spirit and Air Bisons. If we took it to mean you get the powers from the Badger moles etc.... it wouldn't work in ATLA no one (other then the sun warriors) had seen a dragon in years and could still bend e.g. Zuko. So that idea is completely flawed. 2) It goes against the story of Oma and Shu? No it doesn't. Think about it in Wan's story the only benders we see are fire and air benders the two oldest elements. When Wan goes to see the Earth Lion turtle we don't see anyone bend. Oma and Shu must of learnt to bend after the lion trutles already left from the Badger moles. Yes Wan may have learnt to bend before but he is the Avatar so wouldn't really be considered. The other factor is the tail is just a legend and not actually true. 3) There was never a spirit in the Avatar? Yes there was Katara even says it in Season 1 episode 3 when Aang goes into the Avatar state Sokka asks whats happening and she responds "it's his Avatar spirit." 4) There has been 1000's of Avatars but Wan became an Avatar only 10,000 years ago that doesn't add up? It was never stated the Korra's Harmonic Convergence was the next one after Wan's but the next one where Vaatu was free. Similarly the number 10,000 in chinese culture represents infinity (ATLA is based heavily from chinese culture) using this time makes the Avatar appear ancient and also works well because in ATLA the lion turtles are meant to be seen as ancient and older than time itself. So if they were around before the Avatar (therefore over infinity) then this works.

Sadek Miah If I recall, don’t avatars have extended lifespans? I thought I read that Aang’s time in the iceberg shortened his overall lifespan to about the length of a normal person, but most avatars usually lived half a century longer than other humans; I may be wrong about that though, as this was based off of heresay in another KZbin comment section

My FAVORITE under-the-radar element of this episode/series is the bow that the lemur spirit fella does to Wan before he goes back into the spirit portal... the hand gesture is the one that the FIRE NATION USES throughout time. It’s the one Zuko and Aang do to each other when they finally make peace and begin training together. The customs of the fire nation literally have ancient origins in the spirit world I DIE. The attention to detail is out of control.

Outside the Avatar State neither Aang nor Korra has bent more than one element at any given time. For example. if they're Airbending and they want to Firebend, they first have to stop Airbending before they can start Firebending.
@srccde
@srccde 5 жыл бұрын
I guess it's more a practice thing. Since the Avatar masters the elements one by one, they're used to only ever bending one element at a time (the one they're currently working on mastering). When Wan mastered the elements, Raava had to actually pass through him (connect their energies) in order to "switch" to another element. But the Avatar is permanently connected to Raava's energy and therefore can theoretically bend all the elements at the same time. I presume that this is, however, just pretty difficult to do.

Fun Fact: I don’t know if you noticed but arrow on the air nomads during Wan’s era, is actually completely different to what it is now. It was actually a symbol that represented Raava’s arrows but since the air nation discovered sky bisons and their ancestral connection to the air bending, they’ve respected them by changing their arrows to the ones on the bison. Another fact: The Avatar is half spirit! People tend to oversee this, but it can be hard to figure it out. And yes, not only any spirit, but the spirit of Light itself. That’s how the Avatar is powerful and the balance of the world. Binge watched all your reactions, thank you guys for entertaining us all 🙌

Hammad Khan if you wanna look at it from that way maybe but then we have Avatar Kayoshi (idk how to spell) she just curb stomp her main foe and was successful and did a huge help later on because of the fighters her home has made and Anng he did more over time because 1 circumstances and saying she accomplished more is kinda not true ether if we go by 1 the foes and the journey to end game 1 Anng was a kid he had to learn all 4 elements under a shot amount of time no avatar had to do this before he was the only one 2 he fought many top tiers at that time was ok out smarted the best of them ( of course most of his fights he always had help like Korra) and has beaten the fire Lord and learned how to take bending away Fought Zuko and won most of them no one really beat Azula ( besides Zuko and Katara) now Korra has beaten Vato/ Unalaq(sorry can't spell but the evil spirit) and that 1 air bending dude Zaheer and her and Kavira was a tie now and never really bests Amon he gets killed of by his brother ignore that if we go Base by characters Korra had a really really bad start she was spoiled and stupid and some of the smaller drama would have been avoided if she wasn't completely stupid imo I will say she gets a bit better near the other sessions of books but she still kinda forced like how she acted to the main characters at the start and compare it to Anng and over all Anngs development was far better the Korra I don't wanna ramble much longer and I feel like my opinion might change if I watch it all again who knows......

"chock full of lore" This episode legit contradicts nearly all of the lore we were previously taught... but okay.. sure. These 2 episodes are actually terrible once you rewatch them an analyze them based on the content (because of how contradictory they are to everything we've been tuaght thus far). FYI I loved the episodes when I saw them live, doesnt change the fact that when you put the shock value emotion aside they're actually stupid as shit. "Korra is my Avatar," Good for you. imho i hate her, she lost literally every single boss fight in the entire series and in this season in particular is just granted Deus Ex powers to eventually win despite her no longer having any power. S1: She losed to amon only to deus ex airbending and knock him into a puddle of water which he then kills himself S2: She loses Raava, connection to all the other avatars permanently, then is granted magic tree powers that make her stronger than a dark avatar (for some reason?it makes zero sense). also jinora gets raava back for her. S3: Zaheer kicks the shit out her nearly kills her and is only defeated when jinora throws a tornado at him. (at this point Jinora has more boss victories than korra does which is hilarious). S4: She fights kuvira 3 times and literally loses all 3 times only for kuvira to say "Oh i give up" just cause korra energy bends. even tho kuvira was also winning that fight.
