Korra being the only avatar to be so caged up is so sad. I don’t think Aang would’ve wanted this for her, considering the social interaction well the lack of- that definitely molded her personality and perception of the world
@kidn00b110 ай бұрын
Korra's story certainly leaves its impact with the Kyoshi and Yangchen books published after Korra S4. They illustrate a strong sense of cultural-political idealism for the Avatar that often leaves them isolated; if not physically locked in one place, then definitely socially through power implication, always having to rely on friends over world leaders and institutions that seek to exploit the Avatar. It certainly makes sense, and probably one of the biggest praises I have for this show is how it builds upon the foreground of ATLA in a way that makes this show so unique in comparison, while also creating its own influences that create a grounded, yet fluid framework for the characters of future projects (like the books mentioned earlier). Through Korra's ups and downs, and by extension the show itself, I really appreciate her development, the writers, animators, directors, and producers due to so many struggles that affected this show pretty harshly in the background.

I'm glad you decided to watch this series. You won't regret it!!! It was during the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 that I started reviewing A:TLA and when I finished it, I finally decided to watch The Legend of Korra. I remember that just thinking about it made me feel repulsed, but I still mentally prepared myself to watch at least one season of the series and I have to say that it was one of the most beautiful series I have ever seen. That intro with Tenzin's voice narrating what happened after the events of A:TLA made me shed a tear and the music of this first episode captivated me like no series had in a long time. Without saying much about the series, I will say what I think of each of the seasons. I consider myself lucky to've watched LOK before ATLA. In terms of production quality, LOK is amazing. In terms of story, LOK is deeper and more complex (though I'm not a fan of all the politics); the depth and complexity is phenomenal across the board too, because every character in LOK's giant ensemble has their moment to shine. Most impressive of all, LOK dives deeper into what it means to be the avatar as we follow Korra's tumultuous journey through the seasons. She is a GREAT protagonist for the simple fact she's rarely perfect. In comparison, ATLA is a humble and charming show. Nothing really bad ever happens in ATLA, and I kinda liked that. I definitely think Korra is overhated. It's by no means better than The Last Airbender, but it tells a pretty solid story about maturity and learning how to process change in an ever-complicating world. Its biggest problem is that it's less of an overarching narrative and more a collection of stories that just so happen to occur one after the other, making it much less cohesive and much more up-and-down in terms of writing quality. But that's not really the creators' fault. It's on Nickelodeon for not having enough faith in the show. They weren't given the reins to do what they wanted, and Nickelodeon would just commission a season at a time. So I don't think it's entirely fair to judge the show for its structural shortcomings when the creators weren't given the freedom to do everything they wanted. But even with everything going against it, they did a damn good job. I'll go on record and say Korra herself is just as sympathetic and complex as Aang. She learned so early in life that she was destined for greatness, leading to a sheltered lifestyle and stunted emotional maturity. It's something a lot of adolescents and young adults can relate with, especially if they grew up with overbearing parents. While Aang was forced into responsibility by the circumstances of the world and resented it, Korra was kept from being responsible by her own caretakers and wished to be let loose to fulfill it. They are almost polar opposites in terms of personality, upbringing, and mindset. It's an interesting contrast.
