Yes, it is a turn key operation. I usually would only have to bring in some fresh food to supplement the staples stored there.

One of my favourite channels on YT. Great video as always. I really like how you keep things simple. No 4wheeler or fancy gimmicks (not that there is anything wrong with that) I like simple and old school. Thanks for taking the time to make a video. Regards Mark

Your videos take me back 50 years to time spent with my grandfather in a cabin similar to yours. Like you, he used to find ingenious uses for things he found such as the metal you put around your cupboards, and your kitchen shelf. I have enjoyed all your videos. It feels like spending time there in Martin's Cabin in the North Woods. Thanks for putting these out. You have no idea how they brighten up the day!

Glad to see you again, almost feels like home after watching all you videos. ......over and over. I have a pasture 30 miles from my home and have been spraying musk thistles. This morning it was over cast, 80 degrees and no wind. Felt so good taking a relaxing ride in my RZR and seeing nothing but grass and hills for miles and miles. Great it is to be alone away from all the rat race. Just injoying nature........often makes me wonder what Heaven will be like. Then I watch you videos and remember. .....the Northwoods....that's heaven!!!! ☺.

I love your videos, and look forward to more of them. I am the same way, why spend money, (in my case I have none, lol), when you can make or fix something with all the stuff that you already have or collect along the way, invent a solution to everything! Love seeing others do the same, it's slowly becoming a lost art, but now with technology, I think we can bring it back, young folk are now becoming more resourceful, because hard times are coming, and more and more are becoming aware and learning, thanks to folks like you recording your efforts. Thank you for sharing this ~ Stay Free People!

We see things the same way, that is for sure. When I made that cart from two cast off bikes I was so happy when no visit to the hardware store was needed. Every piece had a different use before I adapted it. More to come as I install a window cut from a combo window someone was throwing out.

Well sir, a few hours ago I started with #1 and now I'm here (#21). There's still lots of in-between posts for me to watch 😊. I just wanted to let you know how much I'm enjoying your videos! I've often wondered (yes, often!) how mankind worked so hard to "tame" the land and spent generations creating creature comforts and easier ways of doing what must be done...and now that it's pretty much been tamed and all of our creative comforts are available at our fingertips...rather than being satisfied at our ingenuity...we deeply crave being back where we originally started? It just ironic that what we had IS really all we truly needed. Also..just to share..I was a single mother of two boys for 7 years. Wasn't the plan, but that's life. I worked some hard physical jobs (basically men jobs for better pay..welfare used to be avoided if at all possible. And I did avoid it) But the point of my story is...I bragged about being able to eat all I wanted because I literally worked it off! No gym needed. And I was proud of that! I joked about it all the time. I was PAID to work out! No gym or trainer needed. It's not rocket science!! I believe Americans would benefit on multiple levels if physical labor was brought back to the norm, for both genders (there is ONLY 2!) . Anyway...I'm babbling Thanks for the wonderful videos! .

As a native Michigander living in Indiana, this makes me a little homesick! Your videos are really one of a kind. Thanks so much for sharing your life, that's no small effort on your part. It looks like a pleasure for you to share. the nature is the draw but it's really your perspective and attitude that strike me. It's just uncommon mild mannered good spirited wisdom in action. I watched all your videos after seeing 30 below and now I'm taking some evenings to sit with my son of 7... here's a man he can learn from. How not to be bored with trees. Contentment. Kindness towards animals. How to do hard work well. Everywhere neat solutions. For me, this experience is a small antidote to what life in civilization can sometimes be reduced down to. It's like being a child again, to take time to care for things softly, without an agenda. I salute you sir... & may God grant you many years! (Ps, for the statistics I'm a millennial, I know I saw a comment about that - and as far as hard work I frame houses with the Amish. It's an unique experience for sure)

"I'm only a mile away but using my cart" classic.
@TheNorthwoodsman17 жыл бұрын
Sometimes when I talk in these videos there are things that are not fully explained. The cart really was made for when I could not get past a wet part of the trail that made it a two mile trek to the cabin. When I can drive in within a mile a wheelbarrow can make a few trips and get the job done.
@ramona142207 жыл бұрын
Just saying most Americans( including me) haven't even walked a mile since high school.
@theoldtimeywoodworker24887 жыл бұрын
ramona14220 If what you are saying is only partly true, then may I say that as a Dutchman that's really shocking to me. Come on USA, you can do better than that.
@ramona142207 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of fit Americans, but in the cities and suburbs, a lot of unfit Americans also. I have been to Europe and have seen plenty of unfit Germans and English. I guess they eat a lot of sausage and drink a lot of good beer. Probably the fittest people I have seen personally walking the streets of their cities are Canadians and Italians though maybe the unfit ones are at work or inside. But Northwoodsman1 looks to be 70+ and in America trundling all that stuff like a pack mule a mile or more through the woods is very rare, even with his cart. Please remember also that there are 300 million Americans so if only half of us are fit that is still more than most of Western Europe combined.
@theoldtimeywoodworker24887 жыл бұрын
ramona14220 Dutchmen come from The Netherlands and there are plenty obese folks around here too. Our diet is very different from Germans or the Brits although by far not as rich in quality as that of the Italians. I have travelled the world extensively for the past 30 odd years and as a friend of the US it has saddened me to see its population get more and more obese. It is something the US have gotten known for. I could never quite grasp why a salad costs the triple amount of a burger and why portions have to be so humongous, not to talk of free refills. Also kids meals at schools are of horrible quality. I wonder where all of this went wrong and why. Furthermore absolute numbers should not be confused with relative numbers. It's not about who has the largest number of fittest, but who has the highest percentage of fittest that defines the healthiest nation. I hope you had the time today to go out for a walk or a ride your bicycle and have taken a step towards a healthier lifestyle.

welcome back Martin. I look forward to your videos. They are so informative. And Interesting. I'll be watching for updates. God Bless

oh and a question. Do you have internet service there?
@TheNorthwoodsman17 жыл бұрын
Not even a hint of cell phone service withing a few miles of the cabin. Satellite phone is used so if I wanted I could pay more and have some internet-not.
@LindaBarton7777 жыл бұрын
so how can you be on you tube? your phone? Because the cabin I'm looking at doesn't have any towers close by.
@TheNorthwoodsman17 жыл бұрын
I need to return to IL to edit and post the videos on you tube.

Glad to see you are enjoying yourself Martin; I was happy to see another upload from you. I have said previously to you but at age 21 i envy what you do and hope to follow in your steps. Much love from Lanark Ontario. stay safe and good luck with the ticks, im having a tough time with them in the bush this year. Best regards, Declan
@TheNorthwoodsman17 жыл бұрын
Thanks, ticks were not too bad unless you sat down in the wrong place. Went canoeing north of Bissett, Manitoba and even got some way up there.

Geaorge you may also enjoy this unlisted video I have on youtube. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2mwZn6pjtSBptE It is of a trip above the Bloodvein River this spring. There is never much interest in canoe videos and this is just a slide show on video so I did not list it.

Always enjoy watching your videos. Your a practical man.Always a little gem to be found in your videos. You can soak your outer clothes in pryrithene ( yes I know I misspelled it) It will help keep the ticks and chiggers off you for a dozen or so washings
@TheNorthwoodsman17 жыл бұрын
Yes, permetherin . Spell check is not helping either, can be applied in a tub too.
