I narrate a story I wrote about the time I was mimicking being a deer during a deer hunt and the wolves believed it and set up an ambush around me. Now I wonder "What was I Thinking?"

I miss my younger years of my Grandfather telling of his youth and daily hardships of living. The stories bestowed an everlasting impression on my soul. I pray I'm just as much a man as he was, and you are, when my grandkids are of age to bestow such honor as you two have. Please keep passing on the leasons of life. Does the heart good!

Thanks, I noticed a real shift in wolf behavior after they allowed wolf hunting for a few years. They were starting to show themselves to me a lot more but the hunts changed that to the point that they would avoid the trails I had skied.

I recently stumbled upon your videos, have watched most of them and I really admire your resourcefulness and ingenuity. I enjoyed the wolf story and would like to hear more. I am watching from Ireland, its over 200 years since the very last wolf was killed on the slopes of a mountain near here. It is nice to see someone who has great respect for his surroundings and all that dwell in it. Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks Jim, comments such as yours are encouraging me to work on more like it. I should be able to get rid of the written script on most. Editing software is a great thing. When you note a little pause in the videos it is probably where I edited out a verbal stumble. When I make a mistake I just pause my dialog a few seconds and then start up again. It all gets smoothed out when I edit.

About 2008, my son and I was hunting birds in late December, we were walking down river and with the wind to our backs when I saw what I had thought to be the biggest coyote I ever did see, then came another through the earlie morning fog, then another three in all trotting at a fast pace all three staggered running right by my son and I and they didnt even see or smell us. How fast and a big trot they had. Three of the biggest coyote I thought I ever had seen, as big or bigger than a good sized German shepherd dog. Years latter I realized what my son and I had seen was three adult Mexican Grey Wolf running wild in Phoenix lol..Ok will never forget that wonderful morning!

Neat story. It can be a little freaky when you turn from predator to prey. I was stocked by a bear one time when I was out hunting. Fortunately I didn't see it but my hunting partner watched the whole thing and told me about it. Just hearing about it was enough to make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Being out looking for the same things that wolves, cougars and bears are hunting always keeps me on my toes. It is always a pleasure when I am able to get a glimpse of them though, I just don't want to see any teeth in a close up view. I look forward to more stories and videos.

Thanks Kevin, I know hunters have seen wolves heading down trails following their partners. Most of that is probably just the wolves keeping track of possible trouble. Now a bear doing that??
@kevintulak9987
@kevintulak9987 7 жыл бұрын
I know it was freaky, my partner said he was about 40 to 50 feet above me and followed me about half a mile. I can't believe I didn't hear him, but It was snowy so the sound was pretty quiet. I did go back and look at the tracks. My partner was able to watch it for quite a while because he was up on the hill side with his binoculars. It was a black bear and not a grizzly which makes it even more surprising.

I lived in Saskatchewan 2 years ago. My dog and I were walking down a road at 10th one night. She, my dog started to get spooked. She was 9 months at the time so I didn't pay much mind to it. However, 3 minutes after her anxious movements I heard some twigs snap on ether side of the dirt road we were walking on that was surrounded by thick bush. Turns out 3 wolves were casing us. At one point I even heard them communicating back and forth. Luckily I had a formidable walking stick and a pretty big survival knife. But didn't want my dog to get hurt so we turned around and walked carefully away.

It's a rare and exhilarating experience to have encounters with predators in the wilderness, especially when solo. I've had two wolves encounters while bow hunting elk in Idaho. Seeing fresh sign lets you know they are around, but face to face meetings are rare. One day I was dismounting my ATV, getting ready to hunt a new area when, as I swung my leg off my machine, I noticed a medium sized black wolf staring at me from about 15 yards away! She bolted into the brush after a few seconds. The following night, at around 0230, I was awakened with a start at a wolf outside my tent loudly howling! As I sat up in my cot, another joined in, then another, and another until at least 6 were going at it less than 100 feet from my camp! I grabbed my pistol and light and as I exited the tent they immediately stopped and moved off. I think they were trying to tell me something.

I just found your channel today and subscribed immediately after watching my first episode! Your cabin is absolutely beautiful! My family has a cabin in northern PA, but close to six thousand acres that surround it has been turned into a large hunting lease that I cannot afford to be a member of so my hunting and fishing days there are seemingly over, at least for now. I do love being at the cabin, even if I’m only watching it on KZbin. Thank you for your videos sir!

Great story👍🏽 I had a mountain lion approach me about 10 years ago! I always travel with a friend now and carry a large blade or bear spray part of me feels lucky to have seen it! But now I'm a bit hyper sensitive to predatory animals and possible dangerous situations people can find themselves in! But again great story and be safe out there 🌲🌲🌲🌲👍🏽

Fascinating story, thank you so much for sharing it. I would loved to have been there with you only I think the wolves may have smelled me a lot sooner. LOL Over the past several years I have thoroughly enjoyed following your adventures on you tube and have especially enjoyed the videos from your wonderful cabin in the great outdoors. Hope you have many more years of adventures and continue to share them with us.

I loved your story and yes, I wish I could have been there too...not to kill them, but to enjoy their beauty...I have no idea why people that see wild animals first thoughts are of killing them...we need them...it's nature's balance of things...I bet you get to enjoy a lot of wildlife during your time at your cabin, Martin...I enjoy watching and listening to you...it is indeed a beautiful and mystical place. I enjoy watching and listening to you so much, at your cabin, that I subscribed to hear and see more of you...God Bless you too.

Interesting storey. I often wondered why wolves would't bother people. If they will take down a deer, why not a human? We have coyote/dog mix here and they have killed a couple of people, although they were running at the time which might have triggered an attack. Wolves are gradually working their way back into this area, but they are scarce. Your moose encounters are what would scare me. A stubborn moose is something to be reckoned with, especially a cow with a calf. I noticed your cooler. My dad had one of those years ago, but I don't think they are even made like that one any more. Thanks for the video!

Thanks Steven, I have read other accounts of deer hunters that have been jumped by wolves when they ended up in the wrong place. In the stories I saw the wolves ran off as soon as they realized what they had done. I agree that moose are the bigger danger out there.

In Tennessee the coyotes aren't on the endangered list and you can shoot them all day long but not at night for some reason. Not saying I would do this because I couldn't shoot anything but they are very troublesome to the farmers around here killing livestock so there is a no limit kill on them. Strange how all this stuff varies so much from state to state.

You are close to right. You got my curiosity up with your comment especially when you were passionate enough to call someone an idiot over it so I looked it up. There has been only 2 recorded deaths by coyote attack ever in the states or Canada and they were cornered and just defending themselves.

Great story telling ability Martin! That's an encounter of a lifetime. Very few true wolf attacks are documented that I know of (unless habituated by man), they still have a healthy inbred fear of humans so we can generally enjoy such encounters. Ironically, coyotes can be a different story though but probably suffer from habituation as well.
@TheNorthwoodsman1

Thanks, you are right about the wolves leaving man alone. Coyotes in the suburbs and around campgrounds are another story.

Having helped raise wolf pups at a habitat, and having been familiar with several generations of captive wolves, having a comprehensive understanding of their behavior would never lead to fear in their immediate presence. They are attuned to a different level of natural behavior, fearing man for obvious reasons, intelligence that few humans would knowingly recognize. Enjoy your rare encounters that many would envy.

I have the utmost respect for the wolves. They seem to know everything that is going on in their forests. I know they have watched me walk by many times. I came back to the cabin once and a friend was sitting on the snowy trail. Wolves were howling very close by and he could hear their jaws popping. I circled around and caught a glimpse as two raced across an open beaver pond . Backtracking showed they were only 50 yards off the trail my buddy was sitting on.
