You can have local accounts in Win11, but you must go via MS account first. Make some new wmail address, register it with MS, and then create local accounts and either degrade the MS account to a standard user after you created a new local admin, or remove the MS account completely. You don't need it. But for an average Joe, the forced MS account ensures his bitlocker key is saved somewhere, if he needed it, because most average Joes have no idea about encryption and whatnot, especially when the hard drive is encrypted by default, t least the used space, while bitlocker is appearing to be not activated in some systems. The Joes need a nanny Microsoft to keep an eye on them and to navigate them through the new control freak system the MS has become.

What I wouldn't give to have XP back yet with the expected processor and RAM boosts of today. And also, why would newer operating systems require MORE CPU cycles and RAM? If anything, you'd want the OS to support as far back of a machine as possible because if it could be installed on a $100 computer from back in the day, it can go on a $6000 one and everything in between. They were obviously not thinking straight and added FAR too much bloat, pomp, and circumstance.

I stopped geting updates and removed myself from the customer program (I forget the name Microsoft had for it on Windows 7) so I avoided the update that forced people onto windows 10. Evidently there is a way to go back to Windows 7 but it may not be practical for a lot of users to do so. From what I keep hearing I am glad I stayed on Windows 7 rather than accept the 'free' upgrade as Windows 10 and 11 are spyware - that is Microsoft knows every keypress you make and can even use the camera in your computer to view your surroundings and what you are doing. No thanks Microsoft!

They do write for Linux. Unless yours is a very specific use case, you should be able to use it. Then you have options. Way too many options to solve your problem.

Some issues have been fixed, but: 1. Start menu 2. TPM 3. CPU requirements 4. Context menu 5. Performance (in some cases) 6. Ease of use (especially the Settings app) 7. Privacy issues (even before Copilot or Recall) including requiring online accounts 8. How they went about the privacy issues - becoming increasingly sneaky and underhanded, and lying to users about it multiple times 9. Ads 10. Microsoft's tone-deaf responses (and that's the polite way of saying it) - partly due to all of the above, when people complain to Microsoft, the response is to double and triple down, and make almost every one of these issues worse (performance and context menu are the only ones that have gotten slightly better)

Tell me if this makes sense: As far as I can see, MS is 'evolving' Windows to mimic a web-based OS. If you look at the pattern of changes to the context menus, they resemble the controls for a system without a traditional file structure and more like SharePoint. The elevated h/w requirements and TPM 2.0 are probably necessary to ensure the security (of their control) of their planned by-subscription, OS-as-a-service model. Over time Windows will become thinner and thinner, with fewer off-line capabilities until it resembles a desktop version of a phone OS.

The progeny of 'planned obsolescence' is presumably monthly subscription.

Customisation isn't that great... not exactly customisation, but I was renaming some music files in my LMDE (Linux) today and I found out I can keep changing the file name while the song is playing, plus the song kept playing while I moved that file from one folder to another, and on top of that the filename stayed editable when I clicked on another window/app to either hide it or move a bit. The filename window wasn't deactivated like on Windows. I was blown away. Not sure you can achieve his in any Windows version currently in use but I found it extremely practicable, since Windows is often too sensitive and reopening the filename window sometimes actually opens/startles the file itself, and you must close it firts before you can actually rename it.

Yes they are allowing PCs without TPM chips to install Windows 11. So this video is semi-incorrect,. however initially when it was launched, you couldn't, but they realized that many older systems (even ones just 2-3 years old and some storebought systems) don't have TPM chips. But most CPUs these days have built-in TPM functionality and was how I was able to install Win11 on my then-4 year old AMD system, as the Ryzen 5 5600 I had a software TPM option that I could enable that emulates a TPM, and Windows detected it during install.

Biggest issue with Windows 11 is... it's called Windows. Windows 11 design is as aligned with the original heritage of Windows 1.0 through 7 as an electric SUV is in line with a Ford Mustang. They call it Windows because they want to tap an established user base that is accustom to paying for their OS, and us informed users feel lied to. ... milking brand recognition, the theme of this generation Windows 8 felt like a hard lie, had no real business being called Windows at all, and I really did not appreciate guys like Steve Sinofsky or Joe Belfiore essentially telling us we were wrong to not like Metro (stupid name for a remedial interface). 10 always felt like a dirty compromise, like they reluctantly had to exercise some restraint on the user interface but in turn they wanted to watch everything we do. Now here's Windows 11. Putting aside issues with even calling this Windows, I cannot abide their absolute requirement of TPM or not at least supporting intel's Skylake generation since Windows 7 no longer supporting Skylake CPUs is why I even moved on to 10 in the first place. So they call it Windows, but it's really not anymore. They flex TPM, yet TPM should be absolutely optional outside government/corporate environments They left a very popular generation of processors on a Windows 10 island Oh, and the want to constantly watch us and sell to us Hello Fedora KDE Spin

To me this looks like microsoft was trying to make a MacOS-lookalike ad/ spyware platform, rather than an OS for people and corporations who use windows. Limited customization? Missing features (while stuff no one asked for is added and very hard/ impossible to remove)..... F that.

*From MS's pov* -- they probably thought by insisting on a CPU standard - they'd be helping computer makers - boost sales. Trouble is - forcing people to buy a new computer - when their current computer works well - sends a bad message. If the economy was doing OK - people might buy a new machine - but they hesitate when times are tough. Besides, forcing W11 onto their customers - while removing so many features that people liked - makes MS seem contemptuous. Added to that - all the question marks about W11 being filled with Spyware - it's little wonder there is growing resistance. Still - there is a bright side to all this ---- Microsoft is inadvertently helping a lot people move to Linux Mint - which is free and easy to use

The most simple reason why Windows 11 failed. Microsoft cannot release two good OSses in a row. They never could. Its always that they make a stable OS which everyone wants to use, then create an experimental OS with features no one wants. They see what works and then create a new OS that is stable that everyone wants again. Windows 3.11 was good. Windows 95 was not that good. Windows 98 was good again. Windows ME was horrible. Windows XP was great. Windows Vista was bad. Windows 7 was great again. Windows 8 was really bad. Windows 8.1 was their attempt to fix it, but was still bad. Windows 10 was great again, and now we're at Windows 11. I'm waiting for Microsoft to release Windows 12. I expect that to happen somewhere in 2025 as a bridge from Windows 10 being EoL and no one switching to 11.

I have a theory as to the entire TPM and no local account be default thing. Basically, iirc, Windows still stores password hashes as MD4 hashes. Not even MD5. MD4. They do try and secure those hashes, think they encrypt it snd stuff, but I have heard of people have figured out how to circumvent that encryption. To my understanding, it's due to backward compatibility reasons that they don't switch to something more secure than MD4. So I'm wondering if they decided to use the TPM instead because it was easier than moving away from MD4 and that given just how broken MD4 is, MS might have considered it paramount to get something more secure. That said, I'm not sure this is a very good theory. I'm not convinced their chosen approach is easier to implement, in fact it might be the opposite and that just upgrading the hashing algorithm would be easier in comparison, so this idea might be dumb. It was just a thought that popped into my head.

Maybe MS could fire the execs that pushed Win 11 design? I was happy with Windows 95, 98SE, and 2000 interface because everything was easy to get to. I moved to Linux Mint full-time 4 years ago. Businesses will have a tough time breaking the MS juggernaut.

I didn't want Windows 11 until I started using it. Now I wouldn't change it.

I agree but I was not a fan until I upgraded to 24H2 and it is much quicker than the earlier Windows 11 versions. Running 11 on an unsupported Gen6 CPU but I do have TPM 2.0 and it runs just fine and updates are coming normally.

I certainly didn't want it. Was forced to windows 11 by getting a rebuild. Had problems ever since. Wish they just let me use windows 10 way more stable for gaming

Build a better mousetrap and people will beat a path to your door. Screw your customers like Microsoft does and they will beat paths to Apple and Linux.

even if they will be viewed as Apple themself like an staff that all about greed left Apple to remade it image on windows 11 they will honor whoever has an bad respect for Apple to share it to US where cheap users who can't get an Macbook be filled with coming ads

Microsoft DOES have this good-bad reputation with Windows versions, where every other version is good or bad. So this would look like: Windows 3.1 (OK), windows 95/98 (OK), Windows 2000/Me (bad), Windows XP (good), Windows Vista (bad), Windows 7 (Good), Windows 8/8.1 (Bad, but 8.1 did make it somewhat tolerable), Windows 10 (Good, for the most part), Windows (11, OK, but with a lot of gotchas). Initially Win11 had a lot of issues but lately for me it's been as stable if not more stable (and seems to manage resources much better than Windows 10 did). So for me, it doesn't matter. In fact I almost consider them to be the same OS (Win10 and 11 that is). Basically windows 11 was just a Windows 10 install with some interface changes and a bit more enforcement for security.

10 is great. Yeah I didn't want to move from XP. But 11, THAT'S PURE GARBAGE !!
@bcsr4everАй бұрын
I don't get the hate. It's still windows, with all the bagage that brings. I do my work on Linux and play on windows sometimes if it's a game or software that requires it. I didn't really notice the change to 11, and if it won't run 11 then it can run Fedora.

What grind my gears with post-7 windows is the HUGE everything, I could do a lot with less than 1080p, even using the web, but 8+ windows basically NEEDS 1080p so you can do basic stuff. And the scaling at 100% its useless when you have 768p, everything is huge! Waste of space in the GUI! Oh and the privacy stuff, the customization... Windows is turning into a CrApple crapOS clone!

I have two computers one is upgradable the other not. I have vetoed 11 since the beginning, so now they want to force me. I do 2 things with my computers maybe 3 if you include Amazon. I play world of Warcraft daily, and occasionally Amazon or bills. And they are telling me I have to spend 1000+ to have something I don't want. Been looking at all the bull crap for awhile now and I have decided to buy a cheap mini PC for business and leave my gaming computers alone. If I have problems I will go to Linux although I don't want to do that fiddling, to play games. I can't believe we just let this happen. I am 68 and remember when monopoly was a no go. Feck Microsoft and all these predators.

I plan to stick with Windows 10 for the next several years from now, even if the cost of the update packs will be that of a new PC itself!

In my workplace, all the engineering softwares are not compatible to Windows 11, and have to specifically informed IT department to install Windows 10 in every new laptop purchased. And as a Window gamer, I'm grateful that Steam developed the Proton engine for Linux gaming. I may lost some games access but most of my collections are able to run under Linux. I'm waiting for Microsoft to ditch the Xbox console so that I have reasons to jump ship to Sony PS. Your call Microsoft.

I think windows 11 will join the ranks of Visa, windows 8 and 8.1 Windows10 was never fixed and we are still getting updates that mess up our settings or create more problems by downloading bugged updates and leave us with a BSOD siruation. I was quite happy with winds 7 and I still have it on a laptop. I don't need a super slick new toy full of advertising that is designed for the 'work from home' office people. As for windows 11 than I am NOT updating my computer that uses more electricity than my fridge freezer.

There is just no plus to move to 11 that i can see it looks like everythign revolves around making things better for micorsoft at the cost of the user drm more secure so ms and others can sell more new software . games have no advantage on 11 so home users that are gamers are holding off I personally am waiting for windows 12 when they finally restore the start menu to proper operation LOL..

I have to use Windows 11 for work. It utterly completely sucks. The suckage is on par with Windows ME, Vista and 8. The minimum hardware requirements are not real limitations, but limitations imposed by MS. Windows 11 actually can run on much older hardware with no issues.
@pacthesirАй бұрын
I still hate Windows 11, the only reason I use it is because I use apps like micaforeveryone and other things that make Windows 11 actually usable, I also hate the middle taskbar alignment, there is a f***ing reason I don't use mac and they just thre it away by making it default...

I think people realised it was a blessing the cpu requirement this way there not stuck with this crap. Windows 10 had become so stable with windows 11 shit bugs after bugs after 3 years the file manager is still slow and buggy. I think Microsoft accidentally laid off all the good people they had that knew how to make operating system work and kept all the crappy devs.

I fear that Microsoft has made a sort of tremendous flop with Windows 11. Why not remake a refurbished new Windows XP 2025 with more security options. But also giving the users to install what they choose what they want.... Same applies with Antivirus and Office.? 5:31 5:31
