I read that wisteria can grow up to 10 feet per year! It’s funny how you talk to it before cutting it down “I’d like to say you were a good vine but you were a terrible vine 🔥” lol... there’s so much I think your just going to have to start in one spot and trim out/remove/burn from there! I don’t think until this video I really realized just how much there really was! 😳
@Pirateforliberty4 жыл бұрын
Wisteria will grow back on steroids. If you get some liquid brush kill, drill a 1 inch hole in the stumps and pour the brush kill straight from bottle in the hole you will kill the vine down to the roots.

Maybe 30 years ago my dad's saw had the same problem. We couldn't keep the chain sharp. Finally I had enough and bought a new chain. But when I was looking at new chains I noticed that the new chains had a lot more teeth. What a difference. I imagine your new chain is that way. Makes all the difference in the world. In a town about 10 miles from here there is a historic tree with a historic wisteria vine on it. They believe that both the tree and the vine are from around 1890, and both are healthy. Just something I thought of.

Wysteria is fine as long as you keep it trimmed. It's actually great because it's so hardy and hard to kill. It's so bad in this situation because the property was left unattended for so long. I used it to cover a wall that was made of railroad ties. In places, I pulled some out from the wall and twisted it to form a tree and let the top cascade, it was beautiful. I started it from cuttings from one of our rental properties. It was so easy. I just buried the vine lengthwise about an inch deep so that each leaf would start a new vine. The wall was sixty feet long and it was covered by the second year.

Best way to get rid of privet hedge is to rip it out. The roots are generally shallow, no tap root. We get our tractor or truck with a chain and yank it out pretty well then you don't have to deal with a thousand sprouts coming up from the roots that remained of you cut it. Love the house!

My grandmother`s house had a Wisteria they planted when the house was built 1926. I was to shade the porch from the afternoon sun. It was removed during porch eave repair in the 1980s. Those trunks were the size of your arm. The next vine I hate is the sumac, Virginia creeper - it runs across the ground and goes Up trees.

As a Georgia rancher/ farmer and UGA Ag. graduate my knowledge paled when I met Privet. I bought my farm in 93. There was so much privet that in the Spring I could get so sick of the smell I would up chuck in the field. Had to get rid of it. I did what u did. I was screaming at you when you did not leave enough stump to push up the roots with the tractor and chain. I went to the old timers. Sorry, you just reinvigorated it. It comes from the roots. I bit the bullet and paid a team to come in and dig every root from every plant out of the ground. PRIVET is the bane of existence here in Georgia.. Don’t use glyphosate-(O up ) as it is a carcinogen. And it does nothing to privet. U can dig up, pull up or now drill holes in base when dry. Then add oil and slow burn. Great videos here on this technique. Second friendly note. You are burning too close to healthy trees. I also learned that the hard way. Live and learn. PS -diesel may have a lower flash point than gas but really be careful with that. Your to cute to burn that face. Soak some cardboard in diesel in center of burn pile as an added bonus find a red ant mound and burn there. PSS, I also bought a 160 year old house Sherman did not get. Learned a Lot. But in the end....

A sure-fire method to kill off the wisteria is to get your brace with the largest diameter bit and bore about three holes, evenly spaced and as deep as you can, into the stump; then pour pure "Crossbow" herbicide into each hole and let the stump absorb the stuff. You might have to refill the holes a couple times as it's absorbed into the roots. Cutting it back as you did will only cause it to grow back with a vengeance next spring, and healthier.
