The dream about the Crow bringing Bran down into the crypts reminds me of how Harry kept having that dream about that top secret area at the Ministry of Magic. That allurement and the pressure to fulfill a certain action in real life. I think it's called predictive programming.

watching this video and hearing all these female associations being made with the crow is enforcing my thoughts that the Great Other is a female. It goes perfectly considering the dual nature of the religion of Rhhlor. Rhhlor is mentioned as a male and the sun and light is always associated with being male in theology and mythology while the darkness and the moon is always associated with being female. Plus if the Great Other/three eyed crow is female and is pulling Euron's strings, she may be the one standing next to Euron on the throne with the pale white fire in her hands in Aeron's vision. She could also be the female Other who seduced the Night's King and took his soul. This could be the point in time in which the Night's Watch started being called "crows". It could also have something to do with why the Night's King was wiped from the history books and records.

Yin and Yang. Masculine energy is seen as positive/creative (I think this channel may have suggested a link between Rhhlor and the fertility god that Garth Greenhand followed) and feminine energy as negative/passive. This can't be a coincidence. First thing I ever though when hearing the name "Ice and Fire" was Yin and Yang. Yin is associated with cold as well as being sinister, covert, hidden and treacherous. Yang is open, "of this world", the sun. Seeing a connection here? :-D In Taoist philosophy everything is made up of both parts and both are intrinsic parts of the world, despite being diametrically opposed they are both necessary for the world to function. You can further stretch the parallels to the characters too. None of them are truly "good" or truly "evil". They're all grey. They're all both yin and yang. I bet even Euron will have some positive role in the story eventually.
@johnathankinne39987 жыл бұрын
its about balance in this story, YIn and Yang are not in harmony with each other and too much of either one is a bad thing. Melisandre's religion operates under the ignorant logic of yin vs. yang. They don't understand and therefore can't respect that they are to parts to the same whole and that's why the prince who was promised is a song of ice AND fire he will restore the balance and bring an end to the chaos.

Maybe it will be interesting to you. In Russian the root for the names of both birds is the same, but they are male/female. raven - vOron (masculine) crow - vorOna (feminine) Children have to be taught that those are, in fact, different species and not male and female of the same species. Subtle translation becomes very difficult at times, because different forms of those words appear the same (always differing in the place of the stress, but is not shown in text). Thanks for the new video! Excellent power of observation, as always! =)

@@williamhermann6635 Hightower. That's interesting. Thanks for sharing that.
@williamhermann66353 ай бұрын
@@veritasinvicta8128 Theres actually a few clues pointing towards it too. For one, Leyton comes from the word "latent" which means hidden. I highly doubt GRRM hid Leyton for 5 books just to kill him off in his grand introduction like so many think. Dude didnt just read spell books for a decade just to die. No, somebody gave Euron that flying dream and I think it was Leyton via glass candle. And it just so happens Euron is heading to Oldtown (probly to marry and/or sacrifice Leyton's daughter (the Mad Maid). Theres also links in common names between Hightowers and ironborn. For instance, one of the first Hightowers was Urrigon and its implied Euron's Essosi alter ego is Urrithon Nightwalker. Its kinda like the Starks and Daynes with the name Edric, Eldrick, Eddard, etc. Theres some kind of ancient link there and its coming back around again. I have a feeling Ironborn may have originally been Hightower bastards. Maybe Peremore the Twisted (implied Hightower bastard since Peremore literally means hidden love) was the Grey King and progenator of the ironborn.

God, these videos are fascinating and totally distracting me from my dissertation write up! The notion that Bloodraven was tricked into hooking into the Weirwood Net and is now trying to pass on his knowledge to Bran in the hopes that *he* might be able to escape with his friends is interesting. I almost hope it is true because it works well into how both Bran and Arya seem to resist the notion of "marrying a tree"/giving up your identity is, and perhaps lends hope to the idea that the pack might break out and reunite, like how Bran seems to mentally remind Summer that he has "his own pack" in the form of Ghost, Nymeria and Shaggydog. Plus, your idea works well into this flipping of the notion that Bloodraven does not have Bran's best interests at heart when, in fact, he is still fighting for the good of the realm. So, in this scenario though, the Others are probably not truly evil but are maybe even being manipulated by what is really behind the Weirwoods... maybe, the Children of the Forest? Or are the Children even being manipulated too? The notion of the "other" is a social construct that GRRM in his trope smashing way might want to avoid having a definitive bad person. That said, if the "Great Other" turned out to be the Weirdwoods seeking to annihilate the humans - and the Children are making use if that power - could the reason the Three Eyed Crow wanted to lure Bran to that cave be for his ability to warg humans?
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand7 жыл бұрын
+cardwitch sorry we're distracting you. Don't waste too much time on us. We'll be here when you're finished with your dissertation. We think that the great other, as Mel calls it, is the true "evil" in the story and those who worship forms of him are essentially his/her minions. That would include the children, faceless men, Qohoric, Norvos and a few other groups we haven't ironed out all the details on yet fighting on the side of death essentially and the rest of the world fighting for their right to exist
@cardwitch917 жыл бұрын
Your interpretation of the books is so interesting. You also got me to re-read the Bran chapters again: I had *never* even noticed that odd reaction that Bloodraven gives to Bran asking him if he is the Three Eyed-Crow and now I can't unsee it. Out of curiosity, would all the Children be followers of this unseen mastermind behind the Death Cult religion that presumably wants to turn all life into chattel for the hive mind of the Weirwoods, or are there some who you think could be relied upon to be on the side of knowledge and life like the humans? Like maybe those that remain with the men on the Isle of Faces? Or are they in on it too? We know so little about the Green Men it's hard to know where their loyalties lie, other than Luwin telling us they and the pact were born out of the wise among the children and the humans wished to end the bloodshed.

06:30 You left out the great Carrion Crow of battle. Anyway its too late for Bran, too late to follow the crow. Now the one eyed Raven has him. Share? When was the last time Brendan rivers shared anything? He is trying to leave , to break out of the cage that imprisons him. Likely he cut a deal with the others in the roots, fresh meat, fresh knowledge for them to feast upon, in exchange for his freedom. Not in flesh but in spirit. A new body young and hale, Jojen maybe, in exchange for luring Brand to them.

The more i think about this, the more i'm on board with you guys. I always wondered why they called him the Three Eyed Raven in the show? What's the reasoning behind changing crow to raven? It seems rather innocuous, but hear me out... I think its safe to say that most readers take Bloodraven to be the 3EC. As far as i remember, there were never ANY references in the show to the man in the tree being BR. Therefore, the show may have combined the BR and 3EC characters (i.e. Benjen/Hands) because they were never going to explore BR's story anyway. And while they were at it, might as well subtly change the name just to throw people off that much more. Maybe as a favor to GRRM? You guys got my mind racing. :)

Hi again! You might remember me from your last video. Once again, I love your videos. Clearly a lot of effort was put into them, and they definitely makes the viewer rethink some of their views. I still have a couple of questions, though :) 1) I find it hard to believe Bloodraven isn't the three-eyed crow. Not really on a thematic level, but there are a couple of issues imo, let me give you some here. Firstly, learning to fly is a recurring theme in Bran's three-eyed crow dreams, and when Bran first meets him, Bloodraven says this: "You will never walk again, but you will fly". Like his dreams on flying, this is also something that sticks with Bran, as it's mentioned again in the next chapter: ""You will never walk again," the three-eyed crow had promised, "but you will fly" Whether or not Bloodraven is the three-eyed crow, it's clear that Bran at least thinks of Bloodraven as the three-eyed crow. Secondly, in Bran I, ADWD, Bran and Meera ask why the three-eyed crow couldn't come to them; he has wings and could fly to them. When they first meet Bloodraven (Bran II), he says "(...) now you will understand why I could not come to you ... except in dreams". This to me implies that he was aware of Bran and Meera's conversation, and that he is in fact the three-eyed crow that has visited Bran in his dreams. You say that Bloodraven visited Bran through other methods, but as far as I know the only "thing" that has actively "come to Bran" and interacted with him in the dreams is the three-eyed crow. If I were a part of Bran's dreams through a weirwood, I wouldn't say that I had "come to Bran in his dreams". I hope I made my point clear. So my question is this, how do you reconcile those two points with your theory. 2) One thing I found interesting, is that the last thing Bran sees before he hits the ground when he falls, is "crows [circling] the broken tower, waiting for corn". In his dream the following chapter, we get this: "A crow was spiraling down with him, just out of reach, following him as he fell. "Help me," [Bran] said. I'm trying, the crow replied. Say, got any corn?" Now, I'm not quite sure what to make of that. My first thought was that the crow was something Bran invented, that he was visited by Bloodraven in his dreams, but that Bran gave him the appearance of a crow. Now, this does fit with Bloodravens "A .... crow?", but it doesn't quite explain why Jojen was visited by a three-eyed crow as well. So I'm not quite sure that explanation works. It's definitely interesting, though, so I suppose my question is do you guys have an explanation for it? I have to go so I'll leave it at that. Again, thanks for making these videos, they're really interesting to watch :)

the only thing bout the evil children and bloodraven and bran i dont get is why the children would accept and protect bran and bloodraven when they know they could arguably be there worst enemy,, knowing much more of the children then other people. i thnk bloodraven actually managed to trick the children that hes working with them and furthering their goal, but like his charatcer is used to, he sacrificeed everything for the good of the kingdom/westeros.
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand8 жыл бұрын
agreed....Bloodraven is a very smart guy....he does a few other things, like sending bran dreams while he is there and not attached to the tree...we think that that is one of the ways he misleads the children into thinking he is playing ball, and he will eventually do something awe-inspiring that will help get Bran out of there

what an amazing video! you two have out did yourselves with this one. Do you think Hodor didn't go down into the Crypt not because the G. Other was down there but he may have felt it's presence still lingering in Bran. Maybe Hodor saved the day again by keeping the G.O. out. Also with the Arya and the house of B/W. What is there plan for her? Every test they give her she fails in some way but yet they promote her. weird?
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand8 жыл бұрын
I think the G.O. was still down there...If Hodor could sense him and he was still in Bran, he likely would have refused to go near Bran, let alone carry him right up to the entrance of the crypts....Arya at the House of Black and White is coming very soon

This is sort of off topic but "the Morrigan" is EXACTLY how Morrigan in Dragon Age is depicted....right down to her having a crow, she is a witch in search of "wisdom of the old gods", deceitful, cunning and manipulative. When you were giving all that background it was like I was listening to Dragon Age lore, lol! As always, great work picking up on these things hidden in plain sight.

How can we be sure that Bloodraven's motives can still be trusted? If the CotF captured him and trapped him in the tree, is he really still Bloodraven or is he something else now? I don't doubt his motives in life, but now he's basically a corpse plugged into a hive-mind... Anything he says or does could very well be the weirwood now, not him, right? I gather that you think that despite all this, Bloodraven has the willpower and agency to give Bran some critical info that will help him escape that fate and/or stop the CotF and Others? Also as much as I agree the CotF are behind the Others there are things that make me wonder as well... Why are the wights all clawing at the cave trying to get in? Why would they try and stop Bran and company from getting there? Is it all a trick to make Bran think they are fighting the Others? Are the Others made by the children but kind of a loose cannon that they cant really control? (CotF are safe in their caves while the Others do their damage to the world of men outside)
@210SAi4 жыл бұрын
I have the same reservations about the CotF being evil and yet also in opposition to the WW. Can’t see two major evil groups set to battle mankind with only 2 books remaining in the series....Seems like lots of yet unpresented plotlines

The stuff you're saying does make sense, but if Bloodraven isn't the Three Eyed Crow, how does he know that the Crow was supposed to teach him to fly? Because the Weirwood doesn't do anything except "call" to Bran, right? Also, take a look into Norse mythology. Odin, the father god, who also has one eyes, like bloodravev and his one eye, has 2 ravens that travel the earth and bring him back knowledge of what is happening. George clearly mashes together religions and mythologies to create his world. I don't think it has one clear explanation, which is great if you are the type of person that is trying to create misdirection and mystery.
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand8 жыл бұрын
We had a whole bunch of Odin stuff as well as more text stuff but we were already at 24 minutes and it would have taken at least 10-15 more to incorporate all that...it's going to end up in one of our next videos that will tie BR back into the Wars to Come series
@joemullany76214 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you read this far back, but all this is great...add in that there's a theory that krakens are just Weirwood roots from shallow ocean...therefore further tying Crow's Eye to Faceless Men and Children of the Forest. This would mean that the Weirwoods in the sea are "The Drowned God" That which is dead may never die and ties in with Faceless Men "There is only 1 god the God of Death." Add in the Littlefinger is from Bravos and he has the third Stark pup under his tutelage and you'll see that the Starks have been pulled apart by the various factions of Death Which cannot be a coincidence. And each Stark is being trained by these facets of Death. Leaving Jon Snow the only unsoiled Stark(/Targaryen? George confirm this???)

Ravens are bringers of knowledge in Norse mythology too. I have always associated Bloodraven with Odin, they both have one eye and are referred to as raven gods. Odin is also often accompanied by wolves and now Bloodraven is accompanied by Bran who can warg into wolves.

The Three-Eyed Crow is probably the power which controls the Whitewalkers. We know that some parts of the story were used in the show at its finale, we just don't know what bits. My theory is taken partly from Alt-Shift-X's new video about John snow, where the heroes do indeed go beyond the wall but this time to destroy the "Heart of Winter" - This being an ancient weirwood tree/network filled with spirits of the Children of the Forest that want revenge on Humanity for their downfall; the heroes could destroy this tree to end the Whitewalker threat for good. And just like Bloodraven has power over warging and visions, this Heart of Winter would also have the same powers, but it would use them to destroy humanity instead of saving it. This also explains some discrepancies between what Bloodraven is doing and what the 3-eyed crow is doing like why is Euron seeing visions of a 3-eyed crow to get/use the Horn of Winter. This could be explained by the Heart of Winter wanting to bring down the wall so they can begin a Whitewalker Invasion and the downfall of humanity. Also, it could explain why GRRM alluded to Bran becoming John's enemy, if John seeks to destroy the White Walkers as Azor Ahai, a manipulated Bran could try to stop John thinking he is seeing visions from Bloodraven but it's actually the Heart of Winter

Loving the weirwood series. Something to ponder, it seems likely that past Starks would have known that weirwoods absorb a person's memories and self. So, there is definitely a reason the Stark lords were buried in crypts instead of near their sacred trees. What is the secret that Stark lords passed down through generations that they did not want the trees to know?

This video outlines exactly why time travel, and ESP is stupid, both in stories and real life, it CAN NOT EXIST. No matter what some physicist says. Here, we see blood raven tell Bran he was with him pretty much his whole life. Including before he was born, and in fact when his father was born. We see him repeatedly throughout the books have foresight and precognition. We see he wants bran to be like him, and when bran is like him he can travel in time, in addition to “ know things” , and travel ethereally to spy on people. Yet blood raven says “ A.... crow?.....” as if he’s confused by the question, then he either deliberately misleads the dude he’s trying to groom to be his successor, by saying yeah I was a nights watch type crow.... or he THINKS that’s what bran is asking, which makes his answer even worse. So if blood raven does have ESP. Shouldn’t he know why bran was asking this, or even that it is something bran has had interest in for a long time?..... lastly, the channels opinions are nothing like the stuff I learned about crows in Native American Studies, while getting my degree. Raven is the direct counterpart to the Great Spirit, and is usually known as the Trickster. He is a liar, and hates man and is jealous of Great Spirits affection for them. Kind of like Thor/Loki, god. Satan. Etc. in other words, in every single instance of shamanistic literature I’ve read, raven is the trickster. Thought not as evil as satan etc.... since there is no “ hell” or severe afterlife punishment.

Do you guys see any parallels between the spirit of the 3 eyed crow getting Bran to take the physical crow into the crypts, and the night king getting Jon to bring wights through the wall? Neither could readily access a location, so they used a Stark to take them where they needed to go. It makes me think the Starks have magical blood that allows 'death' to pass through the safeguards of man intended to block it. I also have to wonder if the gargoyles at the entrance to the crypts were some sort of barrier for the crow's body to access the spirit. Also, doesn't Bran attempt to open Jon's 3rd eye in a dream, by using a tree branch to tap his head as the crow used it's beak on Bran? I've always found that interesting.

I think of, say, when someone is using a Ouija board...you have your "benevolent" person (Bloodraven) but it's intercepted by an "malignant" person (Euron Greyjoy). This happens without the user/player knowing...they think they're communicating with good but it isn't the case. People impressionable, weak, young, wanting, without, naive...easy prey. We'd also have to consider the power of the communicator, and "communicatee"...
