I honestly think Ramell Ross could be the Jonathan Glazer of the year. This feels very much the Directors’ branch’s alley
@davidpunzalan7354Ай бұрын
I'm predicting Ross. It's a wide open year in many categories, and Best Director is one of them right now. He's taking a risk, and it's giving the reactions you expect. Outside of Corbet, Baker, Audiard, and Villenueve (I have the last two in though I understand why some think they may miss), who else is there to fill the slots that is on their level of praise? The other contenders are established men, but with mixed reaction films (Almódovar, Berger, McQueen), are women with raving films, but they're genres the Academy is meh on (Fargeat and Schoenbrun) or are longshots (Rasoulof, Kwedar).
@joelanthonylim6792Ай бұрын
@@davidpunzalan7354 yeah my 5 so far Corbet, Baker, Audiard, Ross and McQueen with McQueen being the most vulnerable (the category usually has 1 blockbuster director in so maybe Denis has the best chance). Emilia Perez is too big for Audiard to miss and he has both the auteur narrative and the big Netflix push.

Well said, guys! Really blown away by the artistry of Nickel Boys and am hopeful that will be reflected come awards time, which inevitably means I’m setting myself up for disappointment 😅 Fingers crossed on RaMell Ross for that Best Director upset slot

@lawarayaАй бұрын
@@joelanthonylim6792 American fiction was a People’s Choice winner and Saltburn was far more crowd pleasing from a known director and producer with a known cast compared to films that pushed the form that were more critically acclaimed like Zone of Interest or Perfect Days, Fallen Leaves,

Current predictions on the app: Best picture Best director Best supporting actress Best adapted screenplay Best cinematography Best sound A little on the fence on supporting actress and sound (I have it at #5 for both), but I can’t find a compelling alternative in sound and I feel blitz will be kinda like nightmare alley in terms of nominations that I’m not 100% confident in Saoirse Ronan. Score I’m not confident will happen (too many contenders already), and I have it possible for editing but there are many strong contenders already that right now I don’t have it in the five (currently at #7)

Ellis is someone I could see missing OR pulling off a wild upset should she make the 5. Glad to hear this about Ross--and not just because I've had him in my 5 on a hunch for a while now. It just makes sense for the Directors Branch to go for something distinct like this if Picture happens.

I can see a Best Picture, Best adapted screenplay, Best editing nomination for this movie But to overperform?, i don't trust MGM that much cause they have the fire inside and unstoppable being released later in the year And they're not good at multitasking like netflix or warner

I think this is a goose egg. Yeah, The Zone Of Interest was experimental and got in, but its concept was also experimental, and it was so intriguing. This one is WAY more divisive than Zone, and I don't think people are vibing with it as much.

I don't understand how you praise this Cinematography but don't praise the Cinematography of PAT SCOLA, the DP of Sing Sing. Some of the shots in the trailer are a copy cat of his work in Sing, Sing. The hand reaching out to the sky is exactly like Coleman Domingo reaching through the bars. This is mimicking so much of Scola's style, like in Pig and We Grown Now. I don't understand your praise for one and not the one they are copying. Also, how can you say Sing Sing is not the best movie of the year. The Brutalist is the same old story, Anora is an updated pretty woman. None of these movies are original. It's like you just follow the crowd. Disappointed!
