It's no surprise that Declan Rice ran the most in this tournament. It's not because he covers more ground than Kanté, it's because he played an extra game! Haha. And it was never going to be a Spanish midfielder because they always have the ball, so they don't need to run around like headless chickens... 🤣🤣

I'm the same age as Gary and have exactly the same memories. 82 and Bryan Robson were my first World Cup memories, I had a book which gave a run down on each team and listed the players to watch. Brazil was just littered with stars like Zico, Socrates and Junior. Maradonna got a mention on Argentina's page, Rummenigge for West Germany, Oleg Blockin for USSR and Pat Jennings & Martin O'Neil for Northern Ireland (it's mad the things you remember) And like Gary I also don't remember any Euros until 88.

35:29 everybody wanted Brazil to win that game. And ironically, that loss meant that Brazil and the rest of the world, during tournament time, would divert from the swashbuckling, flamboyant football to a more solid and rigid style. Thats how Brazil won in 1994. They abandoned that style because the 1982 team lost to the more pragmatic Italy.
