That was amazing, and the little bits with the monofilament is something I've never seen elsewhere. Great job!

Have to agree about the huge rods that come as part of these minis. I replace them myself with metal rods, and get to practice my sculpting skills to fill the areas around the new rod :-) I LOVE how you painted this mini, as it's so dynamic and colourful combined. I use liquid paper to fill the smaller gaps on the minis, and also prefer to strip the pre-painted primer off before tackling the few mould lines you get more often with soft plastic minis (You get them when the mould gets warm, and expands when constantly filled with hot plastic during the manufacturing process, so the warmer the mould, the more flash/mould lines). washing and glazing can be wonderful when done properly, as it makes so much of a stand out finish on a model, and is also time saving, too :-)

Great job on this model. Really made a model I'm not wild about look a lot more appealing. Also, really enjoying the wash/glaze method you've been using instead of the just layering technique. Always happy to watch you paint!

Great result on this model. I love beholders and dragons. I’ll paint one eventually but have too much else in my pile of shame at present.

Thanks for the video! Classic monster with a quick and dirty, but still excellent, paint job. You don't mention if you had to deal with much in the way of mold lines. I've noticed some WizKids / Nolzer pre-primed figures have rather pronounced mold lines on them. 😀

The biggest thing I struggle with in regard to my own painting is the misapprehension that everything needs to be perfect every step of the way. I didn't think that center eye was going to turn out and then suddenly it all just came together and looked great.

1 year later .... I have this problem as well. I get over it by reminding myself the beholder is like $8. I can always get a new one.... (I have 3 currently)

How did you strip off the "crappy Wizkids primer" anyway? With what?
@ThePaintingClinic Жыл бұрын
Soak it in Purple Power for a few days.
@KyProRen8 ай бұрын
Did you use epoxy putty for the eyeball or just glued the lens on it before priming? I would definitely do the latter because it would save me money.

Where do you get the brass rods? Do you have to cut them? Beautiful job!
@ThePaintingClinic Жыл бұрын
Hobby stores. K&S brass. Regular hardware nippers are enough to cut most thicknesses.

Also wondering how you strip the primer layer off Nolzur's Minis. Is it your standard degreaser method using purple power/et al?

What do you use to remove Wizkids primer? I’m currently trying to clean up a Nolzur manticore and it’s not going great
@jakejohn29702 жыл бұрын
I clean the mini thoroughly and just prime right over it

If it's something with lots of smooth, flat surfaces like the My Little Pony figures, you could do what I did and just sand the primer off.

What do you mean by “paint stain”? Is it just paint watered down with water? Or, glaze medium or some other medium? I’ve never heard the phrase “paint stain” used in reference to miniature painting. Also, what’s the mix ratio for making one of these stains? Also, thanks for the videos. They’re helpful and fun to watch.

13:58 "Applying the gloss gel on the mouth, the teeth, *not the gums"* Question; Why NOT the gums? Gums have saliva too you know. I mean when was the last time you've seen gums that AREN'T glossy?
