Just wanted to let you know that several years later this video is still helping people make great looking ork models. Thanks so much for making this video. it has helped me so much making fantastic ork skin that is not so hard or so time consuming that it scares a beginner from getting started. i can not overstate how helpful you have been to me, and i am sure many others getting started in this hobby.

So I've been looking around for a good template to use for my Orks. There are a lot of tutorials out there, and while nearly all of them result in a very good end product, most of them are too complex, take too long, or both. This is just what I was looking for. In addition, the paint list at the start of the video was just bonus. Thank you!

@Beau742 жыл бұрын
@@dumbdickler670 Pretty good! We're now about, oh, 60 orks in now? The skin in particular comes out really well, and I've received some positive comments. And yes the contrast makes things easier but it doesn't mean you can just slap it on, it's still very important to make sure that the paint isn't pooling in places where you don't want it to (one or two of my boys has a darker green spot on the top of their head because of this). Overall though, it's a really good paint scheme that is a solid compromise for anyone who wants their Orks to look good WITHOUT spending hours on each individual boy.

@@Beau74 that's good to hear since I'm just about to put my first army together. Wow. I'm only just getting back into 40k after a 30 Yr break, and the techniques have changed so much! I painted a Blood Bowl Orc team years ago (early 1990s) using similar techniques and extremely simple paints. Bleached Bone basecoat on all... white I found was too bright, and I never basecoat with black. Skin tones I used were: - Smaller Orcs on the team like the throwers and liners: Base Scorpion Green... wash with Goblin... highlight with Scorpion. - Medium Orcs like the blitzers: Base Goblin Green... wash with Goblin/Dark Angels (3 parts Goblin, 1 part Dark Angels)... highlight with Goblin. - Large Orcs like the blockers: Base Dark Angels... highlight with Goblin. No Wash. The Goblin Green gives a real matte-finish to the skin and adds shading at the same time. When combined with matching armour, it gave a real dynamic look to them.

Lol predictive text. That was supposed to say “enjoying the great work”. But I suppose I will feel up the great work this time :p Nolzur’s Marvelous Miniatures is a great place to start. Loads of different models at a great price and pretty good quality castings.

I realy like this method however I would do a little extra edge highlight for the face or muscles with the characters for make them more "pop out" What gw paint would you use for that? :)

Possibly krieg khaki - maybe mix in some white to it if it isn't bright enough

Just spray it on over the top :)

Great video and technique for Ork skin. I'm going to use this for my Octarius Kommandos. What would you recommend as a highlight for the skin? The use of contrast and wash already seems to build a yellow highlight on raised areas but what would people recommend if I wanted to add more layers of highlights? Pushing further up into the brighter yellow green?

When you went over with the white at the priming stage, did you do a full coverage?

No just from above. I have an updated video that skips that stage here kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4u3fGaNlpysl9k Have you dropped me a line on instagram too?

This looks amazing Thank you for posting! I am attempting to do the same now, but I am unsure about the base paints. Did you say you sprayed in seer grey AND then sprayed in Corax white? Or did you just paint over in Corax white? apologies if this is a stupid question.
@ThePaintingCoach3 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard glad you enjoyed it! Yes I sprayed it grey then sprayed it white from above - if you only have one spray it should still work

@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks! I have Corax White base paint (not spray) and the army painter Uniform grey (spray), will this work? Or should I wait until the Citadel Grey Seer is back in stock?
@ThePaintingCoach3 жыл бұрын
Try spraying it grey and drybrushing the white on - try it on some spares first, as you'll need a pretty good covering on the parts of the model that are facing upwards
@matth68972 жыл бұрын
That looks great, thanks for sharing this. Could you help me with a couple of questions please? Sorry if these are dim questions, but before last month it'd be 15-20 years since I last painted a miniature. How long does it take for the contrast paint to dry? Also, could I ask what number brush you'd recommend for this?
@ThePaintingCoach2 жыл бұрын
No problem - glad it helped! Depends how thick you put it on - 5 mins maybe? I use a size 1 and 0 brush generally, making sure I don't have too much paint on it 👍🏻

Hey man! Love you video and used it on my own models and it turned out great. I do have one question though, how do you correct tiny mistakes that landed on the skin? Do you have a specific layer colour to use over it? Because the plaguebuerer doesn't really cover without an undercoat
@ThePaintingCoach2 жыл бұрын
Glad you like it - you can try something like ogryn camo as a highlight - otherwise you may have to repaint that section. If you find it happens a lot - try doing all the model first and then the skin last

Looks awesome, just started a hoard and this makes painting less daunting. Is the biel-tan a shade pot or contrast paint? Also did you spray the corax over grey seer just from above for lighting affects or did you cover the entire model

@ThePaintingCoach3 жыл бұрын
It will probably cover it up too much, so you will need to mix it with maybe 4 parts contrast medium to 1 part cobtrast paint

I’ve been trying to “reverse-engineer” contrast paints, like blocking out shadows in a darker tone then glazing over with the color I’m going for. It’s tedious but cheap and is a great pseudo-contrast for the poor folks in the house
