This beautiful piece of English Walnut came from our friends tree.
It is full of very pretty grain with lots of contrast.
Always fun turning English Walnut and it gave me time to work on another crazy glue up coming soon.

Walnut has such rich colors and patterns whether it is black walnut or English walnut. The contrasts in this piece are especially lovely. It is fun seeing the pictures you find in the wood whether it is a lizard, a pig, or river.

Yup, you've got that finish down pat, Gary! Sure looks good with the contrasting sap wood and heart wood. It was fun to see how the dark part of the river that you wanted to keep near the bottom side of the bowl just moved it's way up as you did a little more turning. No harm done and it looks great! Just another excellent turning, my friend. Keep'em coming! 😀 Phil

Thanks Phil! I tell ya that was the coolest thing I saw all week when that river relocated it self to a better place. Looking at the bottom I was sure it was going to be gone. Happy Days! Speaking of rivers I know you have been on the Clackamas. Well I fished it for years for salmon and steelhead and could go down in the dark to get my spot. In the 1996 flood there was a spot on the river where the channel I would go down moved about 500 yards from where it was at before. Not talk about being confused. Made this little Walnut river pocket change LOL Thanks for watching my friend, Gary

Thank you Gord. This piece was so pretty all I had to do is not turn it away. Even before I turned it I could see the beauty where it had been cut. So I have a problem with knowing how anything smells. In 2006 I lost all my sense of smell. Not sure what caused it but the doctors said it might have been some virus. I used my share of epoxy and other resins at work when making core boxes for the patterns I built. The fumes could have had some effect but who knows. Now and then in cold dry air I can smell some things. Take care my friend, Gary

Hi, Gary. Another great piece to come out of your shop! It's beautiful! I need to take a road trip out of Alaska and look for some hardwoods. That walnut turned out great! I took your advice and produced my first KZbin video. It's quite a learning process, and my video shows the amateur videographer. The western red cedar burl bowl came out OK, with its lumps, bumps, knots, and bark inclusions. Oh, and a hole! Take a look if you find a few minutes. Please leave some critical comments or suggestions. Thanks for your encouragement! Take care, --Paul

I really liked this one Gary, hot here in Southern Australia today. The dogs and myself were preparing for the new sawmill, hoping to share some projects in the future. All the best, Liz.

Great job, Gary. Awesome piece of walnut, a fancy shape most probably would have spoiled that great outcome of the grain. I very much appreciate your thoughts and comments from the beginnig 'til the end. Keep ist up that way! Greetings from Germany, stay safe!

Thank you Reimer, happy you liked it. Also glad you like how I do my videos. I am basically talking out loud to myself planning my next move. Which I may or may not have figured out at the time. Studied the wood is one of the most important things to do when turning. Thanks for watching, Gary

Very nice, Gary, I like walnut and the contrast between the dark and light wood. Got a piece of black walnut on the lathe right now in the process of being hollowed. Have a good day. Bill

Another crazy glue up sounds great but lets back to Your bowl for now, Gary. I suppose that wavy grain looks much better from close. Walnut always have hidden patterns. I love when the grain is making the best work, not a shape. Did Your friend gave You more pieces? Keep them coming, Brother 💪 Rav

Thank you Rav and the crazy glue up is in the sanding stage right now. Should get finish on it tomorrow. Yes the grain looks fantastic in person for sure. Well our friends gave me the whole tree when it had to be cut down. And I know the arborists who cut it down and I came over and he cut exactly where I wanted on all the pieces. He did that with our Siberian Elm I had trimmed as well. Take care my brother from afar, Gary
