Hello Pappa, tomatillos (pronounced toe-ma-tea-os) are actually a berry and very important in our green salsas and green enchiladas. They are wonderful and a staple for my culture.

This looks so good! I love fried green tomatoes corn fritters. I have done the tomatoes before when I raised a garden. I have never done the corn fritters. I was later in life discovering them. I am unable to cook since my stroke. I tend to forget things so my daughter comes over each day and cooks. Isn't she just the best daughter? I am truly blessed.

I worked at Harper Hospital in Detroit in the 60's and the cafeteria srved every kind of fritter imaginable. I remember the corn fritters which they served with syruo. They also made apple, banana, pineapple (my favorite), and many other.

I'm a good cook and even took classes way back when, but a trick I learned this year with red onion or Any onion, is to soak them in white vinegar for about an hr. to get that pungent and sharp taste out of them. And it worked.

Iowan here-my grandma and mom made fried green tomatoes; I ate them in the 1970s. We always had a big vegetable garden so we found ways to use/eat everything we grew (also gave a lot away to friends and neighbors). Food looked good as usual!
