My husband and I are Canadians that bought a place in the Lazio region last year. We travel back and forth a couple times a year with our two kids. We were frustrated with the "rat race" and needed something more and to unwind from our life. A bottle of wine in, we contacted an international lawyer in Italy and put in an offer sight unseen. Not only do we love it but our kids do as well. I would recommend doing it sooner then later as all the legal things take forever to approve and it took us 4 months from offer to keys. We vote for Lazio region, for us it is 1 hour to the beach, 1 hour to Rome and 1 hour to the airport! Bonus is the great weather and scenery!

I hope you eventually find the perfect place for you, but I'm not sure there is a truly perfect place. I say this because I have lived in both England and the U.S. several times and, when I was living in the US, I missed things in England, and when I was in the UK, I missed things in the US. That is just something people who move around adapt to. But you are young and this is the perfect time to test the water. @@elizabethw.454 From my experience, my cat only ever peed once in her carrier at the very end of a long travel day. Both other times she didn't until I had her travel litter box set up at our destination. Same thing with food and water - she wouldn't really eat or drink out of travel food bowls I set up for her during breaks in the journey. She would eat singular treats though, so I gave her those throughout the journey!

Alessio and Jessi I'm italian and I love to watch your videos!! I also love to read all the kind comments people from all over the US write about Italy. So, being that I've since few months relocated in Tuscany from another region (not far from Como lake), I'd like to give you one suggestion. I've been around Tuscany for years but in the end, quite by luck, I stumbled upon Massa Marittima. It's a very nice town that rivailed in the past with Siena and it's almost unknown even to Italians. It's 20 km from a very beautyful sea and 50 from Siena itself. I've bought a nice place there for a very low amount and any day I live there I'm more than sure to have done a big deal... Maybe you too can find there a good solution for your relocation. So my suggestion is to check also properties in that area... I'm quite sure your time will be well rewarded!!! Btw you're great! Thank you for sharing your nice experiences around the country!!!

I brought 7 rescue dogs from Egypt to the UK that I saved as puppies and their mother and my own labrador. One of the main things was to get them used to their individual carry cases and my labrador had to have his own made for him with wood as couldn’t buy one big enough. I kept the “travel cages” dotted around the house mainly living room with blankets inside and their teddies and doors open etc so they were nothing to them and familiar being near them. I also like something called Zylkene which you can buy online or major pet stores which is a milk hormone which has a really calming effect and totally natural and just makes more stressful situations a lot better. My vet recommends this too for travel or fireworks type of situations as well.

For Micia. Like others said here. Put a carrier out in the house. Put fave blankie toys & treats in it. She will “get used to it” as a thing in her home. GER FEELIWAY SPRAY! It is a spray for the carrier… Also spray some on your hands and clothes…then pet Micia near glands & her paws so it absorbs. The Feeliway is supposed to mimic the pheromones of a lactating mama kitty. It worked pretty well when I flew my kitties from NYC to San Diego and back. Also if kitty is panting on plane bc she is nervous keep putting water on ber tongue so she doesnt dehydrate. At the airport…drape a light blankie over the carrier while in crowded places. The less sensory overload the less stressed she is gonna be. She can do it! Im so excited for you guys! 🎉😻🥰

She’ll be ok on the flight. I’ve flown w mine a few times. Get a soft carrier for the plane so she’s by your feet, near you. Do a private screening w security, but know they cling to you when they’re frightened. Bring rubber gloves and wipes in case of an accident. I have also heard vets can prescribe anti-anxiety meds to chill them out. Mines a very anxious cat, but she’s done it a few times now. However, it is traumatizing. Cats don’t want to fly.

I just came across this older video, and am having a good chuckle. My husband and I have three large cats, and we are going through the same thing. The hard part is we're in Australia, so it's a full 26 hour flight for us, and we worry about the cats having to be in the cargo hold. We had to move out of our house for 3 months last year for major renovations, 15 minutes away, and the cats HATED it. If I could transplant the house, they'd be happy. Alessio is right to be worried about traumatising Micha. I so wish there was an easy solution for pet parents.

My advice, it's extremely hot in summer away from mountains. Rather than boiling in the summer better to remain nearby pre alpi. If you're looking forward to live with open Friendly people it's better provincia di Treviso. Specially Vittorio Veneto area is nice .Honestly if you're not looking forward companies to work better to live nearby cansiglio forest. If I have enough money I would live in Tambre near cansiglio. Honestly best decision is to buy two houses in italy. One where you work and one nearby beach side to spend holidays.

I would think your cat will need to be in a pet carrier. Start training her by using a carrier and walking around the local mall with crowds of people . Do it several times and go longer each time. Also leave the carrier around the house open for her to go in and out of. Put a favorite toy inside. Try putting her food bowl or a treat inside.

Thank you for having these discussions. My wife and I plan to retire to Italy in 10 years or so. We plan on moving to one of the 7% tax areas at least for the first 10 years we are there. And we want to do 6 months there and here like you.

My girl is 9 years old & just take it step by step. You can get a backpack carrier for Mishia as well & make sure to get her accustomed to being on a leash. Plus, a good tick/flea collar can help prevent from her getting any bad parasites.

You two are loving cat parents! Relax! As a retired military family our dog and cat moved everywhere with us. As long as we were with them, they were happy. Train Micia gradually to the carrier, to walks with the harness/collar, and to car rides. After a bit she will think it is normal and she'll go with the flow. We once travelled 5,000 miles in the car and would walk our cat along with our dog and she was fine. Go slowly and enjoy each day, one day at a time.

We travelled with our cat on a 13hour flight, when we moved to Europe, microchip, vaccines, we needed the necessary documentations from our AVA. It is a process and not all airlines allow pet in cabin. She needed to have a special carrier that fit below the seat upon takeoff and landing (we found a plushy one comfy for her). Nappy for one she adapted well. She did long car trips and travelled on a plane. She has her pet passport and crosses borders with us. So totally understand you both. Having said that every cat have their own personalities. Some take a little more time to adjust it will be fine.

I chose an apartment in Alberobello near my relatives. It is a tourist town and has many cultural activities to entertain the tourists, but I live in the area away from the trulli. The cost for a six room apartment was very inexpensive. Puglia has beautiful beaches, beautiful caves, and so much history.

Abruzzo, molise, eastern part of campania( away from amalfi coast), puglia, calabria, basilacata, and Sicily are the places we are thinking about. Beautiful , and generally lower cost is what we are looking at. Still a couple of years away though. But we started visiting and making some connections already.

Jessi and Alessio i come from a town called Gioiosa Ionica in Reggio Calabria...it's beautiful there...the beaches are amazing all year round, the houses/apartments are cheap and there's lots of castles around the town. I go there atleast twice a year but I live in Perth, Australia..I want to move to Italy forever..I feel so happy there and at peace. Hopefully we will get to bump into each other one day. Your videos are amazing. Jessi you are just so beautiful and Alessio are the most loving funniest husband and your wife is very lucky to have found you.

For your kitty…when you are harness training, treats are the key! Lots of Churu tubes! Don’t worry about the flight. Ask your vet for Gabapentin and she will relax and sleep through most of the flight. Good luck!

"Rescue Remedy" by Bach, natural calming flower extracts is better...they make one for animals called "Rescue Pets"...Natural & can be repeated if needed...Amazing for general anxiety or stress in people too.. (I carry it in my purse in case I eat a preservative or chemical by accident, and get heart palpitations...calms everything in minutes.)👍😌 Awesome!

I have not seen a more recent video so I do not know if you have found a house in Tuscany. I watch a lot of videos of Italy and it is much cheaper in the south. Abruzzo, Molise and Apulia. There ate other parts on the western side with beach towns that are very inexpensive. I had a cat years ago and he was 3 years old when I got him. He was pretty much an outdoor cat and a great mouse hunter. I bought a collar once with a name tag and when I put it on him he went stark raving mad so I had to take it off and never tried again. I moved with him twice and kept him in for a week. After that he knew where we lived and it was not a problem. I lost him when he was about 16 years old in 2007. I think coyotes got him. He came to me in a waking dream a few days after he disappeared and said, "I'm ok, I'm with friends." I still miss him a lot.
