Now need a part 3 with what I call the "Legacy" AV programs, the ones that use to be huge but now are pretty much only included for free pre-loaded onto machines since no one will buy them otherwise. Norton, McAfee, Avast, AVG. What I find most comical however is the comment section. People have a strange attachment to AV programs, and defend them like they're best friends or family. These are all corporations, they're not your friend, and you should absolutely switch if one doesn't currently perform well. You don't get any points for being "loyal" to an AV company, lol.

@@falcon_224 works well until you get a more sophisticated malware. There is a huge market for browser exploits, browser hijacks, session hacks, software exploits even RGB lighting exploitations, pdf malware and so much more that the built in Microsoft solutions won't stop, the benefits with Bitdefender is that they have so many layers of protection for each module, so it makes it more challenging to bypass. Bitdefender has the largest Signature database in the world, with over 500 million online devices connected across the world. Their developers also figured out that just stopping known signatures isn't enough but they also use a way to detect unknown threats by pattern recognition that runs in the cloud, a lot of malware is copied and modified, and just repacked, so when it recognizes the behavior from precious malware it can quickly stop it, even if it's undetected. I even tried my own sample and it just named it to a generic malware with a number next to it.

Nice video, as always! I just like the way you test the antivirus products, especially when behavioural detections are more and more important nowadays. At the same time, I would also love to see a test with ESET Smart Security Premium rather than ESET Internet Security because ESET Smart Security Premium has a new sandboxing feature to ensure that apps are executed only when they are known to be safe in the cloud sandbox. Last time, I was installing a driver for a printer in the library, and ESET told me that they were analysing an unknown file in the cloud. Such a feature is only available in the Premium plan (Smart Security Premium) but not the Essential plan (Internet Security). Given that ESET has poor HIPS results, I think we can also evaluate the product's sandbox-analysis capabilities for never-before-seen threats as well. As this is a new feature, I would really love to see how it works against unknown ransomware~

I have recently come across some ransomware protection utilities I'd be curious what your thoughts are on them / how-well they'd perform against your sample that you have there? ShadowGaurd: Designed to detecr when ransomware tries to check for and delete shadowcopies and blocks them Malwarebytes Anti Ransomware: They apparently have a standalone ransomware utility but from what I understand this should have been baked into their full product I think? I am also curious if you've come across any other dedicated anti-ransomware protection utilities? It seems like its oddly enough something that AVs are failing on so I'd imagine that there would have to be some kind of purpose built product out there

Would be nice to see ESET with LiveGuard and what the result looks like.

Interesting video but by no means do i think the results mean people ought to abandon Eset or Malwarebytes! W hile your at it leo i think it would be interesting to test the effectiveness of well know malwareblocking extensions on their own with no help from the browser security or Os security. Extensions such as Bitdefender, malwarebytes, comodo and etc. And see which ones do the most effective job.

Bitdefender is also good. In India I got Bitdefender total security for $1 per device per year (3 devices, 3 years).
