Now need a part 3 with what I call the "Legacy" AV programs, the ones that use to be huge but now are pretty much only included for free pre-loaded onto machines since no one will buy them otherwise. Norton, McAfee, Avast, AVG. What I find most comical however is the comment section. People have a strange attachment to AV programs, and defend them like they're best friends or family. These are all corporations, they're not your friend, and you should absolutely switch if one doesn't currently perform well. You don't get any points for being "loyal" to an AV company, lol.

Trust me some people buy Norton. Unfortunately I have to use it. But my other devices that don't have Norton (just held together by Defender's duct tape and prayers) strangely haven't exploded from viruses yet, and get less pop-ups/adware scams. Hmmm, I wonder why?

@@falcon_224 works well until you get a more sophisticated malware. There is a huge market for browser exploits, browser hijacks, session hacks, software exploits even RGB lighting exploitations, pdf malware and so much more that the built in Microsoft solutions won't stop, the benefits with Bitdefender is that they have so many layers of protection for each module, so it makes it more challenging to bypass. Bitdefender has the largest Signature database in the world, with over 500 million online devices connected across the world. Their developers also figured out that just stopping known signatures isn't enough but they also use a way to detect unknown threats by pattern recognition that runs in the cloud, a lot of malware is copied and modified, and just repacked, so when it recognizes the behavior from precious malware it can quickly stop it, even if it's undetected. I even tried my own sample and it just named it to a generic malware with a number next to it.

Kaspersky rollback feature is nice on ransomware but it would be a disaster when it comes to infostealer which you can't "rollback" sent data

I have recently come across some ransomware protection utilities I'd be curious what your thoughts are on them / how-well they'd perform against your sample that you have there? ShadowGaurd: Designed to detecr when ransomware tries to check for and delete shadowcopies and blocks them Malwarebytes Anti Ransomware: They apparently have a standalone ransomware utility but from what I understand this should have been baked into their full product I think? I am also curious if you've come across any other dedicated anti-ransomware protection utilities? It seems like its oddly enough something that AVs are failing on so I'd imagine that there would have to be some kind of purpose built product out there

It'd be interested in which "Rescue disks" are most effective. Say for example you're in the IT department of an org. Right at the end of the day, you find out you've had a security breach and some malware has made it on to some machines. But you're reasonably certain, at best it's only on half a dozen systems for whatever reason, and they're currently powered off. In this scenario, what would be the best scanner that is USB bootable? Does it even make a difference being able to scan / quarantine without having to boot into the OS?

I use Eset since Smart Security 3 and I have to admit that I didn't expect to fail the ransomware test. On the other hand I noticed that Eset had 98.22% on final pro-active detection in the "Eset Review 2024: Tested in depth vs Malware" video against Kaspersky which had 96.53% in the other video "Kaspersky vs 2000 malware". How is this explained?

I’m not sure how realistic it is that the malware would open a cmd window and show you what it’s doing. If you close it does it end the malware process? Maybe some of the products expect it to be in the background? They maybe can tell you directly ran it and it’s running in the foreground in full view.

I was also wondering if you test chrome extensions that are part of Endpoint protection package like "mind security endpoint" from shearwater group or squareX, although squareX is not technically a endpoint solution but more of a chrome extension to detect and mitigate stuff ( or at least they claim it to be)?

W hile your at it leo i think it would be interesting to test the effectiveness of well know malwareblocking extensions on their own with no help from the browser security or Os security. Extensions such as Bitdefender, malwarebytes, comodo and etc. And see which ones do the most effective job.

Yes. Almost all AV software uses the same AV engine for every product "tier". All you get in the higher tiers are additional features, things like: firewall, vpn, password manager, etc. He did Bitdefender Free in part 1, it worked just the same as the Enterprise Bitdefender and Kaspersky did here in Part 2.
