This is one of the best instructional videos for beginners who desire to learn to draw and for those who haven't been drawing very long who may need pointers to improve their skill. I would recommend this channel to those persons with out reservation. You do a wonderful job teaching!

Thanks so much ! Your lessons are amazing so far the best that I have seen ❤ For the first time in my life after several courses and classes I took even in prestigious schools , it’s the first time I understand how shading works !😊.It’s so nice of you as un artist to be able to put yourself in a place of someone that doesn’t have a clue of what shading means like me 😅 And you explain step by step, how amazing is this!🙏🏻❤ The way you teach it’s so enjoyable and friendly, and you calm and beautiful voice is just a pleasure to listening 😊

Hi. Emily does it matter if the grades of the pencils are of different brands? I have 2H & 2B, but they are different brands. Thanks
@ThePencilRoomOnline Жыл бұрын
Good question and no it doesn’t matter if the pencils are different brands. The 2H should still be lighter than the 2B and that’s the main thing.

I cannot draw/sketch a cast shadow. Maybe I'm trying too hard.
@ThePencilRoomOnline Жыл бұрын
I’d suggest keeping loose and light for now, it can almost just be a soft pencil scribble with a bit of smudging. Don’t focus on it at the expense of the object itself! Another shading lesson coming next :)
@sharonh988 Жыл бұрын
The shading I understand, but I still can't see where the cast shadow goes. I will continue to practice, and try to "see" where the shadow goes. Thank you for the video.
@ThePencilRoomOnline Жыл бұрын
Hi Sharon, The cast shadow will be more or less visible depending on how strong the light is (same with the form shadow). It will be easier to see if you place an object on a white piece of paper next to a window or a light. Try moving it closer and further from the light to see how the cast shadow changes. It does take time to learn to see the shadow as a shape that you can translate on to your page. The easiest way to see it is to squint at your subject as much as you can to eliminate the detail. Look for shapes of dark for the cast shadow and the form shadow and sketch the shapes lightly on the page before shading them. Its always good to put these things into action so I’d recommend setting up a simple object next to a light, move it around and do some quick 2 minute sketches just to practice seeing and drawing shadow shapes!
