I've got both the 10m and the 357S. The 357 goes with me to the mountains. My G20 is bigger and heavier when fully loaded. The 357 is more convenient, easier to carry and almost as effective.

All 40 cal Glocks can accept a 357 Sig barrel, and the 40 cal mags work perfectly. My Glock 23 converts to 9mm or 357

both are top performers and similar pricing. Notice the rounds had a little more deformation on the .357 which indicates to me a little more energy dump earlier upon impact. Also, and this is an important part that gets overlooked, because it is a bottle necked cartridge, it has greater feeding reliability that can't be overstated. The M&P pistols are very reliable and having the .357 sig barrel conversion makes for a top line carry option

Actually due to how short the case is and the very small amount that contacts the mag follower they tend to nose dive and jam. The short bottle neck design allows it to tilt causing problems.

On top of that, I using hot Double Tap .357 Sig ammo, I've had malfunctions in my Gen 3 Glock 35 with a conversion .357 barrel. The slide would lock back every few rounds. No change in grip or anything, just that strange malfunction. A heavier spring remedied the issue. My suspicion is that the slide velocity was extremely high and was messing with the timing of the cycle of operations somehow.

@Cristian Espinal It ain't just glocks it's any semi auto but glocks seem to have slower feeding mags than some of its competitors. There great with regular ammo but if reliability is more important than power just shoot regular ammo. Just my experience and opinion.

I have .357 sig. And 10mm. I've had my .357 sig. For years, don't shoot it mush. It's my go to home defense. My 10mm is for carry, when I don't mind the bulk. Otherwise 9mm my standard. My choice for 10mm ammo is underwood 180gr. Hp. 357sig. Gold dot 125gr. Hp. Thanks for your testing on these cartridges. 😊

Great review ! I love both rounds 10mm will always win ! I would recommend 10 mm all day for woods work . 357 sig for carry , ( For most ) is a much better carry platform and is credited for plenty of one shot drops. I carry 357 sig , 357 mag , 10mm, and 44 mag depending upon use . 44 mag provides me a lot of variety when it comes to loading !

Wow. Good stuff. In some scenarios you want the round to dump energy and NOT penetrate. Highly populated areas, hostage situation, etc. For bear protection, penetration is paramount. This was great. Thank you!

I would hope so, 140gr @1500fps vs 115gr @1400fps. Kind of a no brainer given the substrate. (all hard materials) Kind of makes you wonder why the .357 sig (EP) is underpowered from underwood they have always made every EP round spicy but this one. Underwood loads "gold dot" self defense rounds that are 1475fps, 124gr 613ftlbs. But I digress, beggars cant be choosers sig is hard enough to find without having to filter the results for a specific round lol.

They were both light for caliber. If you're testing for performance you want the best performing ammo for each caliber. Personally, I would rather see him use Heavy for Caliber.....then watch the 10mm shine even brighter! 😎

I wonder if the 357 Sig barrel was just as long as the 10mm barrel if it would’ve been even closer if not spot on the same. I’ve seen 200 fps faster 357 Sig going from 4” to 6” barrel lengths.

Excellent presentation, especially without the use of water jugs, which has been the trend for many cartridge testing applications. Additionally, for future consideration, could you please utilize the entire high capacity magazine of 10 rounds or more to measure the true effectiveness of the cartridge? Such a simulation would provide some additional insight into the potential damage caused for the intended target.

Underwood came out with a hard cast 180 grain bullet for the 357 sig. Is it safe to use in the current 32 block and other brand of guns that shoot 357 sig?

It makes sense, 10mm had slightly higher speed and more mass coming out of a slightly longer 4.6" barrel compared to the 4.25" of the 9mm Short Magnum. Also there's no reason why both these calibers shouldn't be loaded to 1500fps I've made 125gr rounds rock 1450, and those are 115gr.

I’ve noticed most .357 Sig ammo is pushing good power. Where most 10mm rounds are simply loaded to .40 S&W levels. Which are weak. The exceptions are Lehigh, buffalo bore, & underwood. Because of that I lean towards the .357sig

Sure. I uploaded a video detailing the changes. I installed a Wolf 22lb recoil spring and steel guide rod assembly made for the M&P 45 4.6" model. It fits the 4.6" 10mm perfectly. And I installed Springer Precision extra power magazine springs for the M&P 10mm 15 round mags.

I've also purchased a Galloway Precision 22-pound RSA, but I've not yet tested it. My wilderness large critter protection loads are all in 10mm Auto from Underwood: - 140 Gr Xtreme Penetrator - 220 Gr FN HCL - 200 Gr Hornady XTP JHP I loved your penetration test video. Thank you. I'm curious how a hot 357 Sig with a 125 grain flat nosed FMJ would do in this test. The Underwood 357 Sig Extreme Penetrators are lighter than normal at 115 grains. Also, I've seen the Extreme Penetrators and Defenders tumble in gelatin where flat-nosed FMJs tend to stay nose forward and penetrate better. Although, I'm not certain a jacketed bullet would stay together through the hard barriers.

@@Must_Be_Luck I challenge the assertion that the 10mm is better than the 357 Sig. Hot 10mm rounds have maybe a 50 to 75 fpe edge over the hot 357 Sig rounds, but the 10mm pistols are way chunkier than they need to be and end up being "woods" guns versus EDC. I carry a 357 Sig every day and forget it is there. Width-wise, there is no reason a 10mm pistol needs to be any wider than a 40SW, which are typically the same width as 9mm pistols. The Glock 32 357 Sig is identical in size to a Glock 19. You can tell a difference looking at them, without reading the barrel. I'm guessing manufacturers build the 10s on 45 ACP frames because the grip needs to be longer to fit the round.

I think i'll keep my 10mm that's capable of taking deer/hogs and humans..... no one hunt's with a 357 sig for a reason. penetrators tumbling just causes more trauma and perm damage so ill take it. There's actually ammo that is designed to tumble, the newer fort scott tumbling ammo that came out. Not to mention you can find so many more weights to load in 10 mm, pretty sure there are no 200 gran 357 sigs lol.

There is a test by Kentucky ballistics where he uses a hot FMJ underwood.357 SIG. The .357 SIG won vs 10mm 9mm and 5.7 in a penetration test.

Good barrier test, I think the 357 Sig Extreme Defender 65gr would have done much better than the slower weaker Penetrator .The ten really did great through those tough obstacles.

I have never had a desire to own a .357 Sig since it is a bottle necked pistol cartridge. This being true since I am a reloader. I can see why the FBI started out with a 10mm but switched to a .40 S&W and has now gone back to a 9mm. My personal favorite is the .40 S&W. I can see why the 10 mm has plenty of power but it is snappier and not everyone feels comfortable. Recoil is not a problem for me since I own 3 - .44 magnum revolvers.

10mm is a beast! but 357 SIG is also a perfect solution for most situations. Not sure why underwood loads the X Penetrator 25 ft lower than their 125gr. The 115gr can safely be loaded to 1600fps = 650ft-lbs on a projectile that is velocity dependent.

Great video. I'm a 357 Sig guy. I usually carry a P224 with Extreme Defenders. My P226 is also set up for 357 Sig. I bought a Springfield XDM 3.8 in 10mm, because it looks like 357 Sig is dying, but I haven't carried it much at all. It really isn't much bigger than the P224, but I have to carry it in a holster, because it is single action, and I carry with one in the chamber. I almost never carry my P224 in a holster. I just bought a FN FNX 45 tactical that I'm setting up for 460 Rowland. That is also DA/SA, so I can carry one in chamber, de-cocked, down the front of my pants without a holster. I'll see how that carries. Since I don't need a holster, in 45 it's as comfortable appendix as my P365 with a holster, but I'm not sure how the 460 Rowland compensator will feel against my junk. I actually bought some 200 gr Extreme Penetrators for it-- 871 ft/lbs of energy! I'm curious how those would do?

​@@ThePenetrationChannel I just bought 3 boxes of PPU 357 Sig ammo for $28 a 50 round box. The PPU 357 Sig is as hot as any out there, including Underwood. The muzzle blast is impressive, a real flame thrower. A big advantage 357 Sig has over 10mm is the size of the guns. 357 Sig guns are usually the same size as 9mm guns. For whatever reason, the 10mm pistols always seem to be built around 45 ACP guns, probably due to the need for a longer grip, which makes for really chunky pistols.

I dont see the sig 357 sufficient to really compare these two calibers. Use a real 357 revolver with traditional loads and the difference will narrow to very close to 10mm.
